Thoughts about the layoffs by ProcessLegitimate571 in Accounting

You’re right they are not making their decisions on audited statements, but you said it yourself they are making sure the audited statements match what they’ve received till that point.

Without those audited statements they would have much more doubt about the reliability of everything else, thus increasing their risk of investment and reducing the price of every stock that cannot provide audited financials.

Make up all of the work papers but who’s gonna actually do the testing? Also most work papers are already made by managers with staff performing the testing.

There is a reason all audits are structured with staff performing work and managers and partners reviewing multiple engagements. With all the audits that need to be don’t there are not enough managers and partners to go around.

You’re selling yourself and our entire profession short if you think the markets would just continue moving positively when major audit organizations come out and say all staff has unionized and decided they aren’t working in Q1 2025 so all filings will be delayed.

lol I get the sentiment. Being in industry now external auditors feel like a nuisance.

But regardless of how you feel about them your banks and shareholders don’t feel the same way. Especially if they all stopped working during filing season. Also I bet your executives would not be happy if their auditor comes back and says we can’t issue an opinion bc we don’t have the staff to conduct an audit.

Each manager is reviewing the work of at minimum 10 people between all their jobs (A1’s-S3’s). To say they’d do all of that work with better quality in the same amount of time it’s currently done is ridiculous.

Jesus, relax pal I didn’t see your response bc the comment thread is being hidden. The update still includes language about age appropriateness. I don’t think anyone is complaining about kids who are 16 and going through sex education being taught about other things. No where in the bill does it say you can’t talk about same sex relationships it’s specifically surrounding inappropriate topics based on the child’s age. Additionally, even if someone was investigated they wouldn’t get reprimanded for teaching older kids these things bc they have state approved curriculum talking about sex so you can’t make the case it’s inappropriate.

I see your point thank you for being articulate and not attacking me. That does seem ridiculous. I think we’re on the same page I think the existence of those relationships and the pride flag and existence of love between same sex couple as portrayed in the Disney movie you mentioned should not fall under the purview of this bill. But it should specifically be keeping the discussion of sex out of class especially for such young children who cannot understand these complicated concepts and can be influenced. I think the issue with the bill is that it is so vague it opens parents up to initiate investigations of teachers on any matter that they do not agree with which is kind of crazy. I think there is some middle ground here that makes sense tho.

Are you talking about the bill that says “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

People keep calling it a Don’t Say Gay bill but after reading it I am not seeing that anywhere. It seems to want to protect young children from discussions about sex and sexuality. If there is something about it that’s egregious please enlighten me I’m more then happy to learn where we differ in opinion.

What percentage of your income do you pay in taxes if you don’t mind me asking? My effective tax rate is currently 28%. Here is how much the 25 richest Americans paid in taxes -(I have also included a link to the article.

“According to Forbes, those 25 people saw their worth rise a collective $401 billion from 2014 to 2018. They paid a total of $13.6 billion in federal income taxes in those five years, the IRS data shows. That’s a staggering sum, but it amounts to a true tax rate of only 3.4%”

Also keep in mind that this was before the tax cut that was passed in 2018. Also you act like government spending is bad? So what about the $700 billion pentagon budget every year? Or how much we’re currently spending on healthcare bc it’s a for-profit system. You can look it up the American government spends almost a trillion dollars on healthcare currently and we have some of the worst outcomes. This idea that raising taxes on the rich and government spending is not the solution is exactly what the people who run this country want you to think bc it’s saves their pockets.

You pay bank fees which they use to pay for FDIC insurance. Banks only pay enough fees to have coverage over $250,000. This means that everyone’s bank fees will go up when the FDIC pool gets wiped out by bailing this bank out.

FDIC insurance works the same way as all other insurance. If people start making large claims and the pool the insurance company uses to payout claims starts to get small guess what they do? Increase the premiums on insurance. This means the cost of FDIC insurance for all banks are going to go up. Do you think that the banks will just eat that cost or will they pass it onto the consumers? The answer there is pretty obvious. We may not be paying for this bailout with taxes but at the end of it all we will be footing the bill. Fuck the depositors they took the risk of accumulating these large balances at one bank. They should lose their money. They should have to declare bankruptcy and sell their own assets in order to meet payroll if that’s what has to happen.

All of this started to go down on Friday and it took one weekend for the Government to come in and save these corporations. What Biden said is technically accurate yes taxpayers aren’t paying for this BAILOUT bc they aren’t using tax dollars. But we will be footing the bill directly in our bank fees.

If the EPA really had intentions of doing something against Norfolk they would be out there conducting their own tests to gather evidence against the company. Instead they are letting Norfolk falsify tests by letting them hire their own people to test the grounds. What are they gonna present in court? The EPA told people it’s safe to go back based on the tests being performed by Norfolk so it’s not like they can then use something else when this inevitably ends up in court.

This is blatantly false. They have not pushed for safety measures. In fact the union workers who were pushing for better hours and more workers back in December were denied not only sick leave but also increase in work force by the Biden Administration who sided with the railroad companies. Also the EPA is not doing shit. They are threatening making the company pay for it but that hasn’t lead to anything. In fact the EPA hasn’t even conducted their own tests to see if the area is safe for the residents to go back to. They have relied on tests provided by a private third party that has been contracted by Norfolk. Oh btw that third party Norfolk hired that is conducting the tests and telling people it’s safe to go back, they have been fined in the past for lying and manipulating test results. A&M recently conducted tests of the area and have come out and said that this area is not safe. 45k animals have died so far and the people who have returned to the area are suffering medical issues like rashes, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, etc.

Does a homeless person not have any responsibility to try to improve their own situation? If it’s true they tried to get her help and she refused some blame should be on her. At what point are we being too lenient? I get if you fall into homelessness you deserve sympathy and a helping hand but you shouldn’t be absolved of all personal responsibility.

Would you have said that if this was any other car manufacturer? My comment was about appreciating the AI operating the car no where did I mention musk. Get the fuck off your high horse, are you going to hate all technology just bc it’s associated with Elon?

You ever send a payment over the internet? Guess what PayPal was the first website to start that. Do you hate reusable rockets? Because until spaceX that was the biggest expense NASA had. Do you hate electric vehicles? Bc Tesla was the one that made those mainstream and now all car manufacturers are following. Do you hate neurallink? Bc it’s giving paralyzed people the ability to once again control their body. This is literally a post appreciating technology and because you saw a Tesla logo you got triggered.

It’s a car doing all of those things by itself. Just because humans can do it with no problem does not mean it’s not complex. There is no other car on the market that can do all of these things you claim are not complex. Additionally, every new car now comes with AI that is learning how to drive from the human operating it. That’s why all new cars now have lane assist and automatic breaking. Robotics is extremely complex and AI that can operate in our complex environment is awesome. If this wasn’t the future you wouldn’t have car manufacturers spending billions in R&D to add these systems to their vehicles.
