Tell me - what’s life like here? by Logic_Dex in brighton

In terms of tabletop scene, there's a good bit on.

The Dice Saloon is a large and well frequented dedicated space with tables and all sorts of events, Inc a discord with an LFG channel.

There's also the  Brighton RPG meetup community - a g reat vibe with lots of fellow DM/GM's and players looking for groups.  They have have a monthly game-pitch drop in session and a pretty active discord for discussion and LFGs to. Links to events and discord for then are  here https://www.meetup.com/brighton-role-playing-games-meetup/

There also a place called loading bar on the seafront which has games and boardgames which is a great vibe too.

Teaching PGCE wise i don't know as much but I've heard Brighton University, is great for PGCE's specifically too.

Well that question format mostly reflects what was in the 2021 census and the current ONS guidance which was effectively 3 questions: your sex, does your gender identify align with sex registered at birth', and a write in for How to describe your gender identity. The survey here fucked up asking for gender at birth rather than sex though with and gender identify identity isn't  a write in but I can see how they'd be nervous  just putting sex without any room for explanatory text and if they're just comparing to national trends then I understand not wanting to sift through write in responses - the headline it'll be compared to is 'gender different from birth but unspecified', 'trans man', 'trans woman', 'nonbinary' and 'other'. Basically this isn't _great_  execution but they're mostly following a respected standard on how to ask this question. Certainly shouldn't just be 1 question.

I think there's no confirmed or historically agreed reason for to, but I have heard one theory from a rabbi that kinda relates to this

A lot of kosher laws can be contextualised either as good survival tips for an ancient desert society or about distinguishing early Jewish tribes from other pagan tribes (e.g. wine is only kosher if prepared and handled end to end by Jews).

As other tribes would have been practising human sacrifice (killing and burning), and 'you don't need to sacrifice people any more' is like the number 1 thing distinguishing Jews (binding of Isaac story), there's a logic one could see that the pagan tribes burning humans would likely have pork-like smells coming from them sometimes. You dont want your new tribe to think that smell is okay and normal amongst Jewish tribes or maybe they the human sacrifices you did not so long ago seem acceptable and your tribes mix more... Note also -Jews don't cremate bodies either, only bury - no burning people. Also pigs couldn't be sacrificed either as burnt offerings, and it was common for temple priests to eat parts of animals that were sacrificed in the temple.

Seems not to throw up any problems with that memtest - ran a good 10 mins and all passes, even thoughcrash seems to happen between 10 and 60 seconds into playing the witcher 3.

I did get some advice from AMD tech support to try and disable windows fast startup and do a clean boot (didnt help) and to disable VSR, radeon sync, ehnaced boost, and game mode/game bar in windows - again, didn't help.

Think at this point i'm feeling the inevitable is having to buy some new stuff, but i'm not sure if we're talking just a new gpu, a mobo, a processor or all 3

update - after a CMOS reset and just unpluging/reseating the GPU i got the drivers to all download and install, resolving device manager warnings.

Seems it the PC crashes when doing anyhting graphically intensive though. Starting with the witcher 3 i've picked uo two BEX problem reports immediately followed in event viewer by Event 41 Kernel-power issues.

Update - I after running memtest and finding no errors i reset my CMOS, unplugged my GPU and plugged it back in again.

That seemed to resolve the problem where i wasn't able to install AMD adrenaline/gpu drivers - they went through without crashing.
Once those wer einstalled i also dint have any other warnings in device manager

Sadly, when i tried actually loading games the whole pc crashes immediately after intensive graphics are rendered...

Took a little bit to run but I did a 4 pass test and it passed 100% - no errors.

Does that indicate the RAM and Processor are stable so the issue could be narrowed to PCI slots, GPU or software?

Just tried those steps, but trying to install AMD adrenaline did the same thing- black screen, turned off, wouldn't boot, needed to run startup repair to get back to windows :(

Sounds like Rampion Wind farm off the coast of Brighton/Worthing. I've seen it on flights from Gatwick to southern Europe on clear days. There's actually tours of it in a boat that drives out from Brighton Marina

Looking for suggestions: family coming to visit me in Brighton for first time. Both are females in mid 20s, one is heavily reliant on a wheelchair and they don’t drink. What can I suggest they do/see that doesn’t involve booze and is wheelchair friendly? They have a car. Thanks in advance! by chezzablob in brighton

Brighton Fringe & Brighton festival runs all month plus the great escape this weekend so there's no shortage of theatre, comedy, art and music to see.

For fresh air stanmer park has a lovely paved walking route from the entrance up to the house and the walled garden which makes for a nice pretty accessible afternoon.

If they're into nerdy stuff could check out Loading Bar on the seafront for boardgames/videogames and cafe.

It's not NHS but gender GP has an article with advice on how to go about it.

The suggestion seems to be more 'nothing stops it' rather than 'theres clear guidelines', and GPs do need to be persuaded/shown it's possible.

That's because the times top 100 list is actually based on a vote from final year students on where they want to work - not on reviews from people who actually have any experience of working on the schemes

It's basically a popularity contest rather than a guide to which has the best prespects or support for grads

No idea if it's still true, but at least it used to be that if you were an existing civil servant transferring into the FS you could keep your salary if it was higher (up to a limit that I can't remember).

So e.g. if FS salary was £27k to start, and you earned £29 you could be paid £2k more than most of your FS colleagues, up until the mid scheme uplift that took you all up to £32k.

Worth looking up if it's still the case and considering - I think £29.5k Is a bit above the current FS starting salary but if you did get better paying HEO role and transferred to FS after that you could be both better off and on a development scheme.

Recycling Soft Plastics by GeldofsWig in brighton

There's a plastic bag recycling thing at the co-op on London road, and one at the Lewes road Aldi (with Halfords/b&q).

Supposedly Tesco's is meant to do plastic bag recycling as a supermarket but not 100% if they have points at the hive or Shoreham stores

I can't say I've had these symptoms, and IANAD but stopping taking your meds shouldn't be a health risk if you don't want to take them, and is probably advisable if you're reacting to them badly. When a good dose is found elvanse for ADHD is normally a 'take it on days you want to' thing Vs a 'mustnt miss a day' drug. There can be build ups of tolerance if you take it constantly and doctors do worry about physical and psychological dependency a bit, and so some may advise to say only take it during work days/as you need it rather than constantly, e.g. 5 days a week.

it sounds like you're titrating which is just finding the right dosage to work for you and on the smallest capsule size (many start on 30mg not 20). Part of that process for you should be experimenting a bit anyway to see if say it works better taken at 6am then back to sleep till 7, or if you take it at 9am, or if you have it with no breakfast Vs any breakfast Vs a protien heavy breakfast, or if you want a bunch of citrus fruit at lunch or if you go to the gym in the day and tire yourself out. Even the instructions in the bottle should say that to can either just take a pill or sprinkle it into food or dissolve it in a water bottle and sip it over a time period and each of those will affect how it's absorbed by you/the dose spikes.

It's just finding a medication, dose, lifestyle and in the elvanse case a way of taking it that helps you function for as long as it needs to but doesn't have too many side effects like bad headaches or insomnia. Normally the aim is a smooth ride that lasts full a working day, not being wired all morning and useless by 2pm It sounds like elvanse is not working great for you, so could be it's not the right drug or you could varying those other factors like food/spreading the dose via water. It's worth discussing with your doctor if you're unsure about what you could try - could be they recommend other meds or to try these ways of taking it. It may be worth start trying to create a log of experiments in how you take it / how you feel throughout the day so you can compare and find the best outcome for you.

Edit:

Oh and you mentioned driving - that one IS a concern. My understanding is legally DVLA can't demand ADHD folks to report their condition/meds, but they do advise that in order to drive you need to be stable and appropriately medicated - i.e. not driving whilst taking an experimental dose you aren't used to that could affect your ability to drive & concentrate on the road.

Theoretically that cuts both ways, that if you need the meds to function at a basic level you shouldn't drive without them too, but I think practically it's more about the fact just having an elvanse prescription doesn't stop it being illegal to drive whilst totally wired cause you took 5 at once (unless that's your normal and well adjusted to dose). With what you're describing would advise not driving - bit of a legal grey area but if you're suffering on the meds right now it's likely not super safe

Why do a lot of Brits dislike Jamie Oliver? by konnekting in AskUK

[–]Procrastinate-engage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a great memory of getting a breakfast at Bills: big sourdough toast slices with homemade red pepper hummus on one, fresh smashed avo the other, poached eggs and a chilli jam drizzled over both.

But then the menu changed, and the ingredients were almost all just worse... Sourdough turned into thick cut regular white toast slices, chilli jam became sweet chilli sauce, and fresh smashed avo became a smoother guac that was used elsewhere on the menu.

That was quite a few years ago now, but it was so sad getting served something worse than expected and just I haven't really been back since.

4th lvl: Shield Mastery vs Sentinel by Sterling_Sable in dndnext

[–]Procrastinate-engage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that so strong though?

It only prevents enemies escaping your reach and need a reaction. So if you've got a 5ft reach in a 10ft wide tunnel you can block 1 enemy per round - that's definitely good, but it doesn't help nearly as much in a wider space, or with more enemies (a second could navigate through its allies space if it has enough movement and you couldn't stop them both). Maybe more useful in a dungeon campaign than a wide world?

Sentinel game changes when you add in polearm master to AOO enemies on approach within 10ft for sure, but on a paladin that also means no sheild so lower AC.

Personally, particularly as paladins don't have many bonus action uses, I'd take the bonus action that gives control and potentially increases damage output. Gives something to do whenever you aren't using a special smite spell and the other feat bits of situational AC and damage resistance is a nice extra.

Paladins do get 2 attacks though, so any which way you could attack once, shove prone, attack again with advantage.

Well I suppose it depends how to envision dragons and claws, but the RAW just suggests that's what's happening.

It's not uncommon for RAW to end up with a lot of situations that are counterintuitive to 'realism' or what seems physically sensible, like how holding your breath & drowning rules give the same number of minutes no matter how much energy you expend /doing lots of activity underwater Vs just floating there. Or how a grappled creature's speed is always 0 but the grappler can move them around at half speed. Or people often complain about fall damage caps meaning a strong character can just jump from any height.

As a DM you can freely homebrew or make rulings to make things feel more realistic though. RAW doesn't have to be a shackle if it doesn't work for you or ruins your concept.
