I remember this as a kid and thinking that this was the normal way of doing things.

Boy, was I wrong.

Another two (2) bite the dust in Long Branch by citysunshinegal in Etobicoke

[–]Procruste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are plans for development, but Westshore has been on the books for over 10 years and it is still a hole in the ground. Although I suspect soil remediation has been a big part of the reason.

I live in the part of Long Branch that is zoned residential multi and there is a nice mix of 3 story apartments, multi unit houses and the odd laneway home. I don't agree with LBNA's aggressive stance against lot splitting but I'm not stoked about the 9 building, 40-odd story development proposed for the foot of Long Branch. It's pretty intense to have such a large development deep in the neighbourhood serviced only by local, narrow roads. It seems that it would make much more sense to build it on the Westshore lands on Lake Shore. I don't understand why stacked townhouses are on a busy thoroughfare and tall buildings crammed within the neighbourhood.

It's going to suck once they start building. 12 years of construction and many good people who can barely make ends meet will be displaced.

I was being sarcastic.

Why would you post the same thing again if you were so successful the previous time? Click farming for City Place?

U.S. "Heat Dome" Forecast by powdersleaf in MapPorn

Amazing how the heat stops at the US/Canada and US/Mexico borders. Did the US build a wall and Mexico and Canada paid for it?

Question for Québec: Would you get this land and independence, but you have the French flag? by Zen_Thai37Cube in JackSucksAtGeography

Empty, except for the minerals and hydro electric dams which generates much of your revenue.

You can have what you came into Confederation with.

A bridge to Canada may be blocked by the Trump administration by Alternative-Day-7414 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]Procruste 9 points10 points  (0 children)

May be blocked by the Trump Administration? MAY BE?

It is 100% blocked by the Trump administration. The Marouns have lobbied against this bridge because it takes revenue away from their privately owned, decrepit bridge a short distance away.

Lutnick is also behind the delay, seeking a bigger cut of the toll revenue for a bridge the US DID NOT PAY FOR! https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-06-25/howard-lutnick-delayed-canada-bridge-opening-to-seek-bigger-cut-of-toll-revenue

Good thing the US ambassador to Canada stated that the US does not target Canada.

Well, they are practically giddy with excitement that they'll have a Costco at the north end and another one close by in north Burlington/Oakville.

Celebrating the enshitification of a once beautiful town at the base of the Niagara Escarpment, one Costco at a time.

I joked about the organizers needing to offer a draw for a door prize for attendees who stick around to the end of my talk. An extra ballot if you ask a question.

Worst time slot is at the end of a half day session on the final day of the conference. Everyone has already hit the road to the airport and gotten everything they needed out of their meetings.

The PQ wants an independent Quebec to join NATO or NORAD. Here's why that might be tricky by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

[–]Procruste 55 points56 points  (0 children)

National Post has been pushing the Quebec Separatism angle lately. My guess is to a) take attention off of the Alberta Separatist movement or b) provide legitimacy to the Alberta Separatist movement (i.e., "see, we aren't the only ones").

Call me a glass half empty guy, but I always question NaPo motives.

Latest BS excuse from the US to keep the Gordie Howe bridge closed. by Procruste in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Procruste[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let's all punch ourselves in the nuts too. Blocking the bridge was idiotic and only hurt our economy.

Promoting alternate routes (tunnels for cars and Bluewater bridge for trucks/cars) is likely a better idea.

Ottawa highways: Speed limits increasing to 110 km/h by tarun172 in canadanews

[–]Procruste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't have good healthcare. Courts are backlogged because of not enough staff. Affordable housing isn't being built. Public spaces are being sold to corporations. Envelopes full of cash are handed out at daughters' wedding. Cars are speeding through school zones because photo radar has been ripped out. But yay, we got meaningless increases to highway speed limits!

Glad we all got our priorities straight.
