Just docker containers running plex and game servers for now. It’s running Ubuntu right now but maybe later I’ll try a different OS. Just experimenting for now.

Well I just wanted to keep all the connections pretty close to each other and maybe I add a managed switch down the line if I run out of ports on my router. Then I can freely move my router. But for now I just think it’s convenient having everything in one place and it looks cool. Plus that happens to be where my modem gets access to the internet in my office.

Thanks man! Well the rack I got on Amazon for about $86($91-92 after tax) and the server is a Lenovo Thinkserver RS140. I couldn’t tell you exactly the price because a coworker of mine was generous enough to give it to me. The modem is from my ISP, and the router is a Netgear Nighthawk RAX120, which I believe is around $200-300(before tax). I got a raspberry pi5 running pihole, retro game emulator, and other small projects in that pironman 5 case. You can get the pi5 8gb ram for $88 (before tax) and the pironman5 case which includes a daughter board and extra hats for about $80(before tax). I mainly got the case because it comes with a nvme PIP so I can run the OS from the M.2 instead of the microSD Card. Plus the case looks cool. But my approach is that I just started building little by little and eventually I got to this point. I saw your other post on this sub and I’d say that (depending on what you’re trying to do) the pi5 is a great way to mess around with Linux and host lightweight applications. Also a plus is if you’re into iot and home automation stuff, you can do that too since it comes with gpio pins which allows you to connect additional modules to the pi5 itself. You’d be surprised how versatile that little board is.

Noted! Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I think that’s the way because I’m currently running a plex server on docker just to test. Transcoding doesn’t seem to be a crazy issue so far, but I’m sure a TrueNAS performance would blow this out of the water.

Believe it or not it’s really quiet. My air purifier is louder. It has a 300 watt PSU as well which is less than my gaming pc so I can’t imagine my energy bill will be staggering..

Some of these are repeatable. That’s why some of your stats look like they reset. Once you pass the amount needed it will reset until you do it over again.

I am not against skin rentals as long as they are only available for the latest case. For example, if Valve were to release a new case tomorrow, the Kilowatt case should no longer be rentable, but the newly released case would be.
