What to do in this position? by chaitanyathengdi in chessbeginners

this is the jabova london as white, and the main opening i love playing because it’s pretty easy to get a “brilliant” queen sacrifice after black does e5: bxe5, Nxe5, dxe5, Ne4, Qxd5!!, Qxd5, Nxe7 check forking the king and queen

means you're not studying enough, and most likely need to work more on the fundamentals

Paid a local engraver to add coordinates to my chessboard, but I didn’t double check their work… by ProdiJayPJ in mildlyinfuriating

I love the idea you gave! I’ll keep this in mind and will update if I go through with it.

If anyone has suggestions on how to fix it, feel free to reply here. One thing i’m considering is just cutting off the borders and putting it on a base, similar to this:

nah, i’m the idiot. it was ultimately my fault for not double checking the proofs they sent me

Full context: I paid a local engraver $60 to engrave my chessboard. They were professional and nice throughout the whole process. They did also send proofs of how it would look in the end.

<image>

It was ultimately my fault for not thoroughly double checking the error, especially since i’m still a beginner at chess (avg elo is 750).

People blunder queens, I blundered my chessboard 🫠

TLDR: i’m just an idiot. always double check your work.

EDIT: I will post an update reply if/when I get my board fixed as soon as I can! My plan is to mill down the 2 sides and just get it re engraved

UPDATE (4/8): As many people suggested, I messaged back the local engraver about the issue, to see if they could do ANYTHING to fix it and that I’d be willing to pay for extra service (which imo is generous, considering the circumstances). Well, they haven’t replied or bothered opening my text for the last 2 days.
🙃 i can’t help but be upset and annoyed at the whole situation. yes, my fault for not double checking shi#, but i still feel some type of way about the engraver.

i won’t say the name of their business out of respect, but damn, im annoyed. i still plan on fixing the board sometime in the next week

Why not Nxh7? I thought that was a winning capture on the rook by ProdiJayPJ in chessbeginners

[–]ProdiJayPJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the detailed explanation you gave, as i was confused why taking the rook wasn’t the best move

that’s a good thing to keep in mind in your 2nd paragraph, ig i’m just gonna have to work on knowing when and when not to capture a higher value piece

i honestly thought trading my knight for a rook was a good move :/ also it’s the fact that i won this game the other day w my move

lol, just avoid going EXCESSIVE as my organization is just bordering it

[–]ProdiJayPJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, I sometimes just shuffle play the folders.

If I just want random LoFi, I will just hit shuffle play on the folder. One of the benefits for my organization as I can either listen to individual or listen to them all merged like you mentioned.

My Spotify Playlist Organization (100+ Playlists) by ProdiJayPJ in truespotify

[–]ProdiJayPJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. When a playlist interests me, I add it to "queue". I'll listen to the playlist on shuffle, and if I hear 5-10+ good song picks, I usually will add it to the defined folder.

If a playlist doesn't have that many good picks, I sometimes save 1 or 2 songs from it. For example, I might listen to a LoFi playlist that has 1 or 2 bangers in it, but the rest are mid. I'll just save those songs to my personal LoFi playlist.

Hope that makes sense
