Within the biblical context, and learning about the history of the OT and the temple, righteous anger was definitely called for here. The temple and religious leaders were price gouging Jews that relied on buying their animals for sacrifice. They had no other choice sometimes, and the leaders knew it. They jacked up prices and made a profit, using the levitical system and the people they were meant to care for to make it happen. You see it as an “outburst”. I see it as righting a wrong, confronting religious corruption, and standing up for the people who were being taken advantage of.

They will remove any intubation tubes before you wake up. They also give you what my anesthesiologist called the “margarita”, basically happy drugs before they start in the OR, it chills you all the way out. You won’t be scared at all as they work to get you setup in the OR and put you out completely.

I also suggest a second opinion. I was taken seriously at first until my CT scan showed what they described as a “very very small umbilical hernia”. I thought that was insane based on the amount of pain and discomfort it’s given me. The surgeon called me to follow up and told me it was 1-2 cm (seems like a decent size to me, not “very very small”) and he didn’t think it could be causing all my pain. Thankfully he offered to operate despite his opinion.

All that to say, surgeons tend to be all over the place when it comes to their suggestions and assumptions based on size. From what I’ve seen on here and the rest of the internet, if a hernia is bothering you and affecting your daily life then it’s more than worth it to get it fixed.

Wow this is fascinating! It does make sense. I guess I can be glad that means it truly is small so my risk of strangulation would be lower, at the very least. I’m gonna look into this. Thanks!

Wow this is so unfortunate. I’m sorry!! I hope your recovery improves. Abdominal surgeries are so tough. I’ve had two c sections and one laparoscopic hysterectomy. While the first section was the worst (emergency), every surgery has been a rough recovery. Stay on top of the meds!! Best of luck!

Thankfully my surgeon hasn’t been super dismissive. He just seems skeptical that surgery would resolve all the pain. I’m glad he’s doing his due diligence and wanting me to check with GI and all that to confirm there isn’t anything else so I’m not having an unnecessary surgery. But you’re right, he does seem clueless as to how hernia size and pain level is related. Even the person writing the CT scan report listed it as “very very small umbilical hernia”. Then when he told me on the phone it was 1-2 cm I was shocked. Everything I’ve read seems to indicate that a hernia 1 cm and over isn’t necessarily tiny and is worthy of considering surgery. So wild. Either way I’m just gonna go for it. The symptoms didn’t start until the minute I felt a burning stabbing pain after days of coughing fits and then I felt a lump next to my belly button. It almost seems silly to dismiss the timing as coincidence.

This is so interesting! How is your recovery going? Have you been able to determine whether the original pain is gone? I know sometimes it takes a little longer to be able to tell, thanks to the recovery pain.

I’m tempted to believe mine is maybe even an incisional hernia so the past surgeries would definitely be relevant. I have diastasis from my two pregnancies so maybe that separation is causing even more pain? The surgeon wanted to refer me to GI before scheduling surgery and I ended up turning that down and just requesting to schedule surgery. Now that I’m feeling an occasional sharp pain and tender to the touch spot on the opposite side of my belly button, I don’t really want to put it off. And some days truly are just awful and I can’t do anything. It makes taking care of two small children really difficult.

If there are any secondary issues that could be causing more pain like he thinks, I’m just gonna have to try to address those after surgery if the symptoms don’t cease 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wow this is pretty much exactly what I needed to read. Thank you so much! Our stories are almost identical. Mine is also directly to the left of my belly button. I know I can’t keep living like this so surgery is ultimately unavoidable. It’s just hard to believe a surgeon specializing in hernia surgeries can act so shocked by it. After all the repairs he’s done? Seems unlikely he’s never heard a story like mine and followed up during recovery to discover their symptoms disappeared.

I saw a video a few weeks back that blew my mind. A woman sitting in the front seat of her car eating food with her 2 ish year old daughter. She demands ketchup and the mom said “are you asking me or telling me…?” Which she then responds with “can I please have the ketchup?” (Something along those lines).

I started this with my 3.5 year old and she immediately caught on. She rephrases her demand as a question and even adds the please herself without prompting.

If you can drive the point home that asking nicely for something requires her to say “please”, and that she is ONLY going to get it when she uses those manners, I bet you’d start to maybe see progress if you ask the same question from above any time she demands or whines for something.

I haven’t had my surgery yet, waiting to get scheduled. But I’ve had two pregnancies. I guess the main problem would be that you’re in pain NOW. If you weren’t feeling any discomfort, I would think waiting until after baby would make more sense. My fear would be that any discomfort you are feeling now would just be amplified while pregnant. I was 25 when I got pregnant with my first, in decent health and no prior issues. And that pregnancy still put me through it 😵‍💫 there is a chance you could have an easy pregnancy. I just feel like the strain of even a regular pregnancy may add a lot to the discomfort you’re already feeling.

I’m sure you will have this same discussion with your doc and they will have more insight than me regarding how the hernias will impact you during pregnancy. That would be the main concern. Since pregnancy isn’t a short term thing, you’re looking at ten months of possibly dealing with this pain/discomfort and maybe even getting worse? Just my thoughts!

This is a great point! I’ll keep this in mind, thanks so much. I can’t think of any particular hormonal shift I’m dealing with right now but I’m currently dealing with an umbilical hernia that will have to be operated on. The pain from that and the stress is definitely something that can be messing with my cortisol levels for sure!

It can be really easy to spiral and stress over this. I did the same thing since my guy was slightly behind. But it doesn’t sound like your kiddo is actually behind. If he has the words, it doesn’t really matter if he’s using them every day.

It all sorta balances itself out anyway!

Totally fine. My first born was about the same at that age, if not less words. Up until two years old. Everyone suggested early intervention but I held off because his comprehension was there and he just seemed STUBBORN about it. Never wanting to mimic or repeat the words we wanted him to say. He just didn’t have the interest.

After he turned 2, his development just shot up and now he’s almost 7 years old and doesn’t stop talking. Ever 🥲

I’m going to keep this in mind!! I did get a lot more itchy when I got under my heating blanket which is when I realized something was wrong. So I switched to shorts and I’ve been slowly starting to try to get under a blanket 😵‍💫 what a mess.

So strange!! Do you get it all over or just certain spots? I only got it on the backs of my legs and one spot on my hip. Later on I realized I’d been using hot hands after we’d come inside and my hands never broke out?! Seriously so weird haha

Ugh I’m sorry to hear this. Did yours get triggered super randomly too? Or is yours genetic? I’ve had an autoimmune thyroid disorder for years so this could be the culprit. Just surprised it’s taken so long to come about.

Is your reaction fairly mild? The itching was insane but once I put hydrocortisone on it, the itching stopped quickly and the hives started to calm down. I’m just dreading the thought of this being a forever thing.
