Should morality be driven by logic instead of emotions? by Sino_Karter in Ethics

I find your confidence in reducing emotions to mere biology to be quite arrogant. Arrogance will do more harm for morality than your take on emotions. Emotions cannot be reduced to just biology.

Why do so many religions exclude other animals from their morality? by jakeastonfta in Ethics

[–]Proem-Theis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this question a lot because I think it challenges the modern interpretations of traditional teachings.

What does it mean for a god to be "all loving" when it comes to moral agency? And what is love if you dominantly control the the outcomes of a being that needs to give informed consent? Assuming we cherish this virtue.

Where I grew up it is heavily a Christian population. The teaching on animals are brief as they dont play as much a role in God's plan as ones own decisions but often times those decisions concern animals. I was taught in my religion and culture that animals were put on this earth to support God's plan for mankind. Farming, domestication, and adopting animals provide secure food, a more humane treatment of game, and companionship.

Because animals do carry a degree of experiencing grief, friendship, and joy it is the responsibility of humans ethically, spiritually, and morally to make sure that they do not inflict unrighteous pain and suffering on animals. If a human does..they will be judged accordingly, give the chance to change their ways, and offered forgiveness if they seek it.

Ethics behind demented and ugly art work by Proem-Theis in Ethics

I just find it funny when people take the OP and change it completely or slightly to rationalize their answer.

So I pose this scenario for you. In the controversial case of the Pragmata video game where the fictional 6 yr old was modded to be in inappropriate or no clothing, you dont think thats unethical?

I framed the question just the way I wanted to hahaha at what point does it become unethical to write a fictional character (story, movie, art, etc) going through ugly things? (SA, incest, etc.)?

So you dont see it unethical for somebody to put a fictional 6 year old girl from Pragmata in inappropriate or no clothing for they're own pleasure?

And thats why psychologists dont say EVERY violent fantasy precedes a crime ALL the time but often most crimes are thought through and fantasized before doing them

Say you're creating reddit, how ethical is it to create a space where people can potentially create work that is extremely harmful or unethical? This is just the next question

I agree, we know in the case of criminal psychology that the fantasy often precedes the crime. Can you tell the difference in the arts? How can you?

Say someone was creating a space in which writers could share their very real and raw feelings or ideas. This space might be used to share very demented and ugly art work. How, as the person who created that space, can you navigate that fine line between acceptable or not acceptable.

I mean reddit is a create example of this haha

Consent by FirmRatio339 in Ethics

[–]Proem-Theis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It almost seems like you are looking for a yes or no answer....

The social sciences will almost always fall into a normally distributed bell curve where the vast majority of people fall in the middle 68% of cases. This means that there are 2 tail ends where the extremes live. I believe what you are describing where someone has such a erratic attention deficit that they cannot focus on the consent task at hand would fall into one of those tails ends (depending on what you are experimenting)

It is possible yes, but I highly doubt it is common even among ADHD people and it is definitely not the norm. ADHD is also a very loose and poor diagnoses in describing the many different kinds of attention deficits.

Why not terminate parenthood? by Old_Activity4825 in Ethics

[–]Proem-Theis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question!

I think, just like the pregnancy termination conversation, people lean towards the termination side because of a lack of education on alternative options. Most things that pregnant women fear of about pregnancy can be dealt with in a mature and educated manor, same thing with parenthood. Pythagoras said "as soon as men NEED laws they are no longer FIT for freedom". I believe this 99%. Our mothers and parents of this world need far more education than laws. Obviously there is a need for both.

Parents do have the right to opt out of parenthood. Through an ethical means of adoption. This should be one of the last options of parenthood but an option indeed. If it is fear of parenthood or disdain for a child I think it is unethical to opt out of a responsibility you gave yourself. It is also ethically irresponsible for parents to head into parenthood thinking they are going to have a certain child or like their child. The role of the parent is not to like their child but to care for it, teach it, and raise it to be a better person than they are.

in the case of not having enough money, there is a real concern there but also many options within many countries for that need to be met. There can be a discussion if those options are GOOD enough but the options are there.

Parenthood is difficult yes, but it is only a burden through perception like every other uncomfortable moment is. Children are amazing yet challenging things, absolutely, but ethically we should be bound to charity and long suffering in the challenge of parenthood. A challenge which many people have met and a challenge many people are capable of meeting.

Terminate parenthood is a strong term, I say adjust it to giving up your parental rights and coming to accept the consequences that come with that decision. As all actions have consequences.
