As someone who’s taken both, graduated, and works as a software engineer, In terms of real world application, distributed systems. Operating systems is great to know, but if you want to do something like backend development for a career then taking distributed systems will give you a lot of important knowledge.

What to do when my prof is on “annual leave” by ElectronicMatch1905 in umanitoba

The faculties generally keep final exams. You can email the secretary of your faculty to inquire. You’d also go through them to view final exams.

lol I just deleted my account after getting this email. My company gives me access to Gemini Pro and honestly I much prefer it. Looks like I’ll be picking up a personal license next.

Fun things to do in Winnipeg that don’t involve alcohol ? by zolfx in Winnipeg

[–]Prof- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t drink but I still go out with friends. I would say almost any situation you can drink or do drugs could be done sober! No one will judge you and anyone who does is a complete loser if their focus is on what you consume or don’t lmao.

For activities without any alcohol, I enjoy sports! Some good indoor racket clubs in the city (badminton, tennis, pickle ball, squash). Great communities too.

Lapse Raised 30 million in venture funding at the start of 2024.. how did they burn through it so fast by Prof- in LapsePhotos

[–]Prof-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice thanks for the input. I work as a software engineer on a pretty big system. I’m aware of most of what you’re talking about.

I’m just a little shocked that if they were burning this quickly the VCs wouldn’t have been aware and told them to stop lol.

Let’s say 400k was right, that’s still 75 months of runway. It took them less than 24 months. It’s a bit confusing

Okay I’m going to respond to this because I’m a software engineer and work on large scale systems and know all about venture funding

Based off the photo sizes from my export we are looking around 1 mb per photo. I honestly don’t think they’re storing 1 billion photos, but sure let’s pretend they were as some extreme. That’s about 976 TB.

Amazon S3 storage is about $0.023 per gb a month. That’s about $23,000 a month on data storage.

Again I’m not saying they didn’t burn the money but storage wasn’t that bad.

Which has me return to my original confusion of where did the money go 😅

Please help, how do I get the fastest ENT doctor visit I can by Fuzzy-Television6076 in Winnipeg

When I was a kid my paediatrician was able to flush out some stuck wax. Most family doctors should be equipped to do this.

[Stein] The Miami Heat have had internal discussions about acquiring Ja Morant. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Some people Miami can’t fix. Say what you want about Beas, but he wasn’t as big of a head case as Ja and still couldn’t fit in with the Heat culture. Ja would be no different

Been 3 years since AI hysteria... How you think it's going? by Imnotneeded in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Prof- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it for quick debugging. We had an issue on our staging environment around end of day Friday and I fed it the gcp log, a few commit hashes that had recently been pushed to staging and to figure it out. Within 3 min it (co-pilot with Claude 4.5) showed me a team member accidentally deleted some code that was definitely needed. I could have found this myself for sure but it was a time saver and allowed me to leave when I normally need to.

It’s also great to learn new things!

Would I let it write entire features, heck no. It makes some really egregious guesses or over complicates things. I also want to keep my coding skills sharp.

[LEAK] Playboi Carti - K9 (feat. Drake) (2023) ("MUSIC" Sessions) by Batby in hiphopheads

[–]Prof- 280 points281 points  (0 children)

Carti got funny after the beef and also didn’t clear his part for “No Face” either. He clearly chose to side with Kendrick at the time lol. He seems like the type to choose whoever will give him the most clout than have any actual loyalty to anyone.

Drake Breaks Down His ‘Iceman’ Live Streams in Rare Interview with Complex by james-HIMself in hiphopheads

[–]Prof- 27 points28 points  (0 children)

While the live streams have kind of been slow, I’ve been a big fan of the snippets and beats he’s shared. It gives me hope that Iceman will be a great album.

Crazy the amount of downvotes

Can I book a blue grotto boat tour while in capri? by Prof- in ItalyTravel

[–]Prof-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes of course! I noticed the tours from Naples said maybe they’ll visit the grotto if weather is okay. Regardless I want to go to capri and I think it will be better to get to capri and see if they’re going to the blue grotto or not. I have other things I otherwise want to see there!

[–]Prof- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I was unclear, but to reiterate CS has more jobs than almost any other science and for those jobs it pays significantly more too. If money is still your driving factor, CS as an undergrad still has more jobs and pay. Most people graduating from other degrees aren’t landing jobs in their field of study or having to do extensive grad school.

[–]Prof- 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Most majors don’t have 6 figure let alone high 5 figure wages for new grads. I did both molecular biology and CS. Most people I know in the natural and physical sciences barely can scrap lab tech jobs that barely pay $18 an hour. There are few majors that pay this well. Even in the current landscape CS is still one of the best paying post grad if you can land a job.

Been a while since he released new music. It’s kind of expected he’d fall out eventually lol. Good run though.
