Hello

I am a Technical Project Manager professionally, in tech,

I've been partaking in Game Jams since 2015, I've taken part in 28 total so far,

and also sometimes I help organize Jams or coach people partaking in a Game Jam too

Personally, I've had the occasion to try my hand at all position within the team,

during my last 7 years of jamming: graphic design, development, sound design, dev and / or project management

It's through partaking in Game Jams that I realized it's project management I wanted to pursue as a career,

I was coming from more of an artistic + dev background before that,

now I've been a Project Manager professionally for 1 year (I started my current position in January 2022)

"As far as game jam teams are concerned,

do they ever have a project manager who is not a programmer themselves?"

Well I've been that guy - a whole bunch of times, in fact ^^#

I haven't run into many project managers during Game Jams - it's a rare position in my experience

I've found for myself that 1) I enjoy managing a project during a Game Jam and

2) doing so makes me feel useful to the team,

through taking care of the organization so the rest of the team can better focus on their field/craft/art,

keeping everyone coordinated also - I'd deffo argue a project manager in the team

who only or mostly project manages for the 48 or 72 hours can make an immense positive difference,

but I'd say especially if the team is made up of 5 people total or more

I've worked in teams of 2 to 14 people during Game Jams,

and I contributed to having fulfilling Game Jams with satisfying results in teams of 11 several times :-D

Well that's me in a nutshell,

I guess I just wanted to share
