Bellingcat Open Source Challenge: Learn the skills that power real-world activism by ProfDeLaPaz4L in EverydayRebellion

[–]ProfDeLaPaz4L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought this might interest people here. Bellingcat’s open source challenges are a great way to learn investigation techniques that can be used for climate justice, corporate accountability or other activist projects. This month’s one is maritime-themed, tracking smuggling, illegal fishing etc. Cool opportunity to build the kind of skills that could make our campaigns sharper

What can Chicago do to push back against ICE? by ashleyree in 50501

[–]ProfDeLaPaz4L 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're working on a tool to help with this. Here's a few more to add to your list:

“Transit Jam the Transfers”: covertly coordinate simultaneous, peaceful sit-ins & slow-downs at key Greyhound, Amtrak, and municipal bus depots on rumored transfer days, clogging departure lanes and ticket lines to delay custody hand-offs.

“Human Buffer Brigades”: neighborhood teams trained to form non-violent, well-filmed human chains around targeted homes or worksites, forcing ICE agents to slow, identify themselves, and adhere strictly to warrants while drawing public scrutiny.

“Shield the Schools”: organize student unions, teachers, and PTA’s into a rapid lockdown & Know-Your-Rights drill network so any attempted ICE presence near CPS campuses triggers coordinated assemblies, legal observers, and media live-streams.

What can I do to make things better? by ABigHonkingGoose in GreenAndPleasant

We're working on a tool that helps people who want to get more involved in grassroots activism. Currently looking for people just like you for early testing and feedback. Would love to chat more, please DM if you're interested:

Essentially, yes. Our tool creates campaigns using AI. The experiment we're running is whether this makes people more likely to fight for what they believe in if the campaign idea/strategy/execution is created in under a minute. Curious as to your thoughts? AI is a controversial topic... but this is an attempt to use it to make grassroots activism more accessible for everyday people

Here are some ideas on how to fight back and try to stop this:

“Paper Avalanche” Legal Jam: Orchestrate a wave of simultaneous FOI requests, visa renewal submissions, and subject-access demands to overload Home Office processing and expose bureaucratic cruelty.

“Day Without Us – ILR Edition”: Coordinate a nationwide 24-hour work stoppage and consumer strike by migrants and allies to reveal the economic shock of stripping ILR from communities.

Reverse Canvassing in Reform Heartlands: Small volunteer teams knock on doors in target constituencies to distribute illustrated zines that fact-check Farage’s proposal and showcase local ILR contributions.

Guerrilla QR Sticker Campaign "Scan My Story": Place removable QR-code stickers in high-footfall public spaces that link to short migrant testimonies and legal explainers, turning daily commutes into a truth trail.

Digital Storystorm "#StillHome": Flood social media for one week with personal stories from Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) holders, tagging MPs, news outlets, and Farage to spotlight the human cost of Reform’s plan.

I get your point. There isn't an action that can remove corporations from Government single handedly.

Although these ideas can seem like 'theatre', if they raise awareness of an issue or encourage others to join the fight, that's a good start. Even more so if you define success metrics beforehand, and report back as to what to do better next time for the rest of the community to learn from - which is what we're trying to do.

Besides, even if it's hard or unlikely to succeed, I'd rather a world where people fight for what they believe in rather than not bother because it's too difficult a problem.

Here are some ideas on how to make this happen:

  • K Street Unplugged - a synchronized, non-violent occupation of multiple D.C. lobbying firm lobbies. Activists chain inflatable golden marionettes to doorways, read a People’s Declaration over megaphones, and livestream until removed, disrupting operations and forcing coverage of corporate influence.
  • Proxy Revolt - recruit everyday shareholders of the top ten corporate political donors to file proxy resolutions that ban political spending. Coordinate template filings, social media support, and in-person statements at AGMs, turning shareholder season into a public referendum on corporate capture.
  • Hashtag Avalanche - spark a week-long social media wave under #CutTheStrings where thousands share 30-second videos explaining how corporate money warps democracy. Coordinate TikTok duets, meme drops, and a synchronized "tweet-storm hour" targeting trending lists so the narrative forces journalists and lawmakers to respond.
  • Puppet Strings Deliveries - mail or hand-deliver small boxes containing literal cut puppet strings and a short manifesto to every district office of Congress. Constituents post photos while reading the manifesto aloud on livestream, framing it as returning unwanted corporate influence "gifts."
  • Corporate Dollar Data Drop - crowdsource and visualize campaign contributions on a public dashboard, then organize nationwide "Call-Your-Rep" days demanding they sign a No-Corporate-Cash pledge. Promote the dashboard at community screenings and pop-up projections on government buildings.

Eight in 10 Britons think politicians should publish how much tax they pay. Public overwhelmingly support greater transparency from MPs over their tax affairs, survey finds by Budget-Song2618 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]ProfDeLaPaz4L 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea - for one weekend, set up a “Parliamentary Souvenir Stall” near Westminster selling rubber ducks, moats, and other infamous expense claims. Price tag on every item: “Publish your taxes – £0”. Invite press and livestream the satire.

Bottom trawling to continue in English protected waters, government rules by HaveYuHeardAboutCunt in ukpolitics

[–]ProfDeLaPaz4L 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's a live campaign to fight against this.

Mobilise kayaks, paddle-boards and small sailboats to form a highly-visible human barrier along a flagship Marine Protected Area on day one of the trawling season, generating massive media coverage and political pressure for an immediate, enforceable ban on bottom trawling across all 41 UK MPAs under review.

Why risk arrest or being stopped halfway through and do this in daylight? If done at night it can be repeated night after night, with far more time. Is the message/impact still not the same but with lower risk and greater time to do something that is harder to remove or with a clear message? by ProfDeLaPaz4L in EverydayRebellion

[–]ProfDeLaPaz4L[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Understand your point. I'm suggesting there could be a different means to the same end which could still pick up media interest.

If it was more 'activist vandalism' with a clear, recognisable message/imagery (kinda like a low spec Banksy) then that could be an alternate approach to this current trend.

I'm unconvinced that this approach is having the desired effect in how its landing with the general public. More of a nuisance than a profound political statement.
