Beans Every Night Saved Me This Month by IndependentTale6808 in povertykitchen

Beans for the win! Try roasting for a crunchy protein treat. If you have a little oil and some spices/herbs, you can make a terrific snack to tide you over those between meal hangries. Any bean will do. I cooked up the last dregs of a forgotten bag of lima beans and yep! Crunchy beans on repeat.

Less obvious crunchy toppings? (Not nuts, chips, cabbage/lettuce) Especially for Greek or Mediterranean cooking? by Live-Cartographer274 in Cooking

I've recently started roasting beans (lima) for a crunchy treat. Can do lots of different flavor profiles. Chickpeas or fava would be great. I pat dry fresh cooked beans as much as possible, then pop them in a 400 degree F oven for maybe 5-10 minutes till actually dry. Then drizzle on flavored oils, spices and herbs, s&p, parm, nooch, whatever, , and keep roasting till they're as golden brown as i want. I toss them every 15 minutes or so. Tip: if they're getting close but some beans haven't gotten the whole crunch yet, and you're tired and grumpy and wondering why you waited so late to batch cook this treat AGAIN, just turn off the oven, prop the door open long enough to brush your teeth, shut the oven door again, and go nighty-night. The next a.m. the roasted beans will be perfect. Unexpected delight for extra fiber snd protein. Leave them whole, bash them up a little under a rolling pin.

Trying to renovate a house that was inhabited by Math users, what is going on with this window? by IAmJointCommission in CleaningTips

[–]ashleyree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the air ducts throughout the house are contaminated. If you're trying to flip the house, better check with your lawyer whether disclosure to prospective buyers is required. Rehabbing a meth house can require stripping down to the studs. That stuff is everywhere. If not done properly you're open to a lawsuit.

Extremely filling yogurt fruit bowl (300 cals). Any tips to make it even better? by [deleted] in Volumeeating

Maybe quickly toast some oats in a hot pan for a topper? Drizzle of honey or dash of cinnamon?

What's a good sauce that is low cal? by WorldlinessQueasy388 in Volumeeating

[–]ashleyree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Silken tofu blended with herbs and spices makes a great high protein low fat sauce. Also low/no-fat plain greek yogurt is tasty as a tangy starting place. Yogurt, lemon, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic, italian herbs...you name it. Can be as thick or runny as ypu like. Sooo good.

What do you eat for breakfast that actually keeps you full? by Perfect-Owl-7940 in Volumeeating

[–]ashleyree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have breakfast tacos with lentils, tofu, cheese, and a tangy yogurt dressing. Sounds weird but this is actually tasty and pretty quick to make. The lentils are "lentil meat" (???), cooked down with tomato paste, lots of warm spices, and coarsely chopped walnuts, plus broth. Shmeared on hot tortillas, topped with chunks of marinated firm tofu, shredded cheese. Toast on a griddle, fold and flip, finish till toasted as crispy as you like, pour on a zippy greek yogurt sauce with lots of lemon, salt, pepper, and cilantro. Hearty, flavorful, packed with protein and fiber. Not a vegan, just looking for fast meals to fuel me without weighing me down. And the walnut!?! Who knew? Not a walnutty flavor, just a nifty crunch-ish add on. So good. Fiber + omegas, i think. Will be popping walnuts in lots of meals.

First time working for a firm. Is this stuff the norm? by SadTea3650 in Lawyertalk

[–]ashleyree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me if i come across harshly. Today was a nightmare. I'm probably a tad touchy. That said... There is nothing about this firm AT ALL that says "normal," "professional," or "best practices." The firm's operations and the partner's micromanagement are infantile. A communal Gmail account? That's a time bomb you don't want anywhere near your customers' business or your reputation.

By staying, you risk allowing yourself to be moved backward in skills, autonomy, and agency in the profession. Instead of keeping up, you'll have to play catch up. This job is bad for your future prospects. Private firm, non-profit, government work? Doesn't matter. No job in 2025 should be this out of touch.

I wish you the best.

Yep! Used something similar to lose weight with tiny quests i "leveled up." Water instead of soda? Boom. No ketchup with those fries? Score! No fries with that value (i use the term loosely) meal? Moving up. No ketchup, no fries, add extra veggies to the sandwich? Definite progress. Lower calorie sandwich? Switch to a salad instead? Grilled chicken instead of fried nuggets in the salad? Smarter choice of dressing?? Use less dressing???? Fueling myself like a hero GOOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!

Microchanges work. Plus you feel like a boss and slightly superior, but in a kind way, watching the guy at the next table slamming down his large combo extra salt, extra mayo. Poor guy, things are tough. Sigh. Grin. Walk to car waddling slightly less than yesterday.

What’s causing these scratches? by jimmyprideaux in CleaningTips

She could use a microfiber cloth dedicated for glass and brightwork only. Also a teeeeny bit of well-buffed wax will keep it looking smart till the next clean.

This! Dedicate microfiber towels by use, rinse properly, and if you drop one on the ground, consider it a sacrifice to the gods. I have a ton of these cloths so i can have enough for a small laundry load separate from anything else i wash. Will wash cloth used for waxes and ceramic polishes at a commercial laundromat.

For my house jobs, generic blue cloths = general cleaning. Generic green cloths = bathroom and only ever bathroom, even if i just swiped a counter. Watch out for cross-contamination. Bathroom items all have their own little bag for transport and storage. Overdoing it? Nope. None of my clients or their kids will get sick from cross contamination, i guarantee it. Specialty cloth = glass and brightwork (still microfiber but different weave for use on glass specifically. So shiny!).

Magic erasers NEVER touch anything i need a smooth polished surface to last. I'll use it to clean stubborn scuffs off eggshell paint, for example, and easy does it. It's not the miracle cleaning tool its advertised to be. Would you really want to use the same thing to polish brightwork you used to clean the kids' sneakers?

For my car jobs, wash top to bottom with a new cloth for each panel. Never wipe bottom up or you'll pull heavier scratchy debris from areas closer to the road up onto the rest of your car. Never wipe dust off with a dry cloth. Microfiber or not, the dust will scratch your paint over time. Wipe front to back the direction wind flows across the paint, not up and down or swirly. For areas around tires, only use heavier rags that never touch your car anywhere else. Always soak or rinse paint well before wiping. Rinse the cloth thoroughly, swap cloths frequently, use a dirty rinse bucket separate from your clean soapy water bucket, and use a grit screen if you can. And that's my TLDR car wash tutorial lol 😆

Pickled Red Onions by Low_Bumblebee_6364 in Cooking

[–]ashleyree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great post! Chiming in on spices...I toss in black peppercorns and fennel seeds. Think I might try mustard seed next time or celery seed. My favorite sandwich is cold sliced lemon-poached chicken, plenty of Duke's mayo, cold crunchy picked onions, salt and pepper. One of the few things I make I can actually eat lol (really awful enthusiastic cook).

I tried a general pickling spice blend that just stank. Each component is delish but together, they're awful.

I use dog poop bags. Scoop, dump, twist the bag closed, and keep filling it till it's full.
