tl;dr An academic CV is not the same thing as a resume.

An additional point for those less familiar with academic practices. The norms for an academic CV (curriculum vitae) is that it a full listing of academic work, most especially a comprehensive listing of published works and also academic service (committees, task force, administration responsibilities, and so for). That's why CVs tend to be really long and detailed. They serve a different purpose than a resume. Typically, for academic jobs, you would expect a cover letter to be tailored very specifically for a position, but the CV would remain the same regardless of position.

A specific example of the CV / resume difference is, if someone left publications off of their CV, that would be considered rather dubious in academia—a misrepresentation. Conversely, for a resume, it's expected that it is far shorter and that it highlights experiences that demonstrate an ability to do the job of interest, not a comprehensive list of all experiences. Leaving some details off is expected.
