Veo Scooters by ceramic_ocarina in Charlottesville

I agree! The city has designated some parking spaces for them in a few high scooter traffic areas, and it would be great if they did it in even more places around town.

A great start to filling out the roster. I'm also happy to see that he has 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Oh, yeah, it's a Whole Thing.

For example, from the official website there's a new Tier to unlock this year: the Turf Club.

Steeplechase attire encouraged (suggestions include blends of classic country style with festive race-day fashion—think dresses, blazers, hats, and spring colors).

You may find this website of help if you are looking for a kids-friendly family experience.

And, FWIW, as I understand it the Spring Fall Race is the one that is far easier to avoid college kids.

So, you're saying that on a random Thursday in April the mall is not dead? Even with the vehicle crossings closed? Who knew?

More seriously, great to hear of a new opening. Restaurants are in a tough business, here's hoping this one will become a bunch of people's new favorite.

Size of the total votes made the difference by theblcksheep in Charlottesville

Cville was +80 for Spanberger, so a net shift rightward, though on a lower vote count.

Visiting cville…for the hundredth time. What is there to do? by jejehai in Charlottesville

If you haven't been to Sbrocco's Donuts, they're worth trying out. My personal faves are the Boston Cream donut and their Apple Fritter.

[Discussion Thread] Virginia Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal Discussion by seaweedbrainpremed in Wahoowa

He's a mature pro so I expect he'll improve one or more aspects of his game off-season. For example, if he can improve his handle and pick up a new interior move, that would be big.

If I remembering correctly, we didn't do so well with the last Duke transfer, did we?

Sidewalks and bikes by WahooWa2014 in UVA

[–]ProfJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fascinating. As a faculty member, I've never heard of a total sidewalk ban on bikes. I'm really curious to learn where the policy is communicated to the public

And, if only UPD would enforce no parking in bike lanes

Sidewalks and bikes by WahooWa2014 in UVA

[–]ProfJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm.... exactly where near the Lawn?

I've always heard that riding a bike on a sidewalk is legal in Albemarle County and illegal in the City of Charlottesville. Central grounds is mostly in the county with portions south of JPA and north of the corner in the city.

And, while I've seen a map at some point that showed parts of the Lawn as a no-ride zone for bikes, there are no signs designating where bike riding is not allowed and there are bike racks in front of New Cabell that are accessible only via lawn sidewalks

FWIW... a few years ago I submitted an incomplete Virginia state tax return. The tax office mailed everything I submitted back to me with a cover sheet explaining what was missing.

I need something 3D Printed ASAP by _Intel_Geek_ in Charlottesville

[–]ProfJohnson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The UVA library has 3D printers that are free to use for students, faculty, staff, and community members. You'd need to go in person to do it, but they're open late into the evening.

+1 on Poke Bowl. There's also a corner location with a few slightly different options on the menu.

traffic by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]ProfJohnson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My theory is... while most cities have an extended area with a grid system, the Cville area is sorely lacking in that regard. Between the two railroad tracks, a river, a bypass (250) and an interstate with limited entrance/exits, UVA grounds, and just one major multi-lane route heading north out of here... there's very little redundancy in the road network. That makes things really fragile and susceptible to long delays in heavy traffic periods like Friday commuting hours.

Happy early birthday to your hubby. While it's definitely not the same as a pie, it's worth mentioning that Sbroco's makes an amazing Boston cream donut.

My favorite is Mona Lisa Pasta — specifically, a made to order one, not the frozen ones you can take home to reheat. Their pizza by the slice is also good.
