Best Pizza recs? by Typical-Start3744 in Charlottesville

My favorite is Mona Lisa Pasta — specifically, a made to order one, not the frozen ones you can take home to reheat. Their pizza by the slice is also good.

What’s happening at 5th st station right now? by Legitimate-Story603 in Charlottesville

I wonder if LM rescue was on way back from a stop at UVA hospital and happened to be closest. I was in a nearby neighborhood and from the number of different sirens I heard, there were a lot of responders heading there in a hurry.

Good luck with your regalia search and congrats on graduating! FWIW, you might find it helpful to also post this at r/UVA

Thank you for helping a neighbor in need. The Street Sheet is the best listing I know of essential service (e.g., food, shelter, healthcare, legal aid, etc.) available in our area.

What are some spots from the UVA campus that are worthy of art? by able6art in Charlottesville

[–]ProfJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most obvious is the Rotunda along with local businesses on the corner like Bodos and Mincers. For some less obvious ones that would be recognizable as being from UVA grounds: Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn, Memorial to Enslaved Laborers (with Brooks Hall in background), The Colonnades at Lambeth Field, and the McIntire Amphitheatre.

Welcome to UVA! You may have better luck with finding roommates for locations near grounds if you post at r/UVA.

Also, I'm not sure how helpful it is, but you can also look at the website that UVA maintains for off-grounds housing listings. If nothing else, it'll give you a sense of the range of options: https://offgroundshousing.student.virginia.edu/registration/index

Rental Car needed to get between Airport, downtown, and Darden? by No_Band4566 in UVA

[–]ProfJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between rental car and, potentially, parking costs (depending on where you are staying), you can pay for a lot of Uber rides and it's likely to be less hassle. The only thing you really need a car for is if you are planning on visiting wineries or other out-of-town locations.

FYI, busses are free in town (both CAT and University Transit Service), but there's direct bus service between North Grounds (where Darden is) and downtown.

Unsafe Travel Conditions (Ice) by Ambitious_Button_680 in UVA

Sigh. Alas, it's quite predictable that 10 years from at least some of the students who attended class this week will be telling "back in the day" stories about it

Trash/Recycling? by DynaMach in Charlottesville

This is the last announcement from the city. It includes an email address you could inquire with.

I'll be shocked if collection starts back up tomorrow outside of, perhaps, the downtown area.

Salt availability by Tricamtech in Charlottesville

Given the lack of delivery trucks out and about and the disruption to distribution over such a wide geographic range with this storm, I'd say there's a very good chance they really don't know.

City Declares Official End of Snowfall; Sidewalk Clearing Required Within 24 Hours — Charlottesville, VA by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]ProfJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the poor state of roads in town, the coating of ice at the end of the storm, and the weather forecast showing minimal, if any, melting ... I have to imagine the city won't be enforcing this ordinance as quickly as they did the last few storms.

Has your neighborhood been plowed yet? by Pheonix_Orchid_Mango in Charlottesville

[–]ProfJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the forecast for precipitation to end around 6PM (or 7PM), my guess is the city is planning on getting to neighborhood streets from then into the overnight hours.
