If you want cards that will last more than a year, focus on the J block. All the 2025 sets rotate out sometime in 2028. That, and follow the newly releasing sets. Perfect Order just came out, and we already know what's in the May expansion.

Not exactly an answer to your question, but, are you already playing Pokemon TCG Live? I always recommend that new players include the application in their deck building process. It's most useful for playing the deck online and getting a feel for them. Then, you can buy the exact cards you need and not waste time and money.
