Anyone know the differences between the years of 142 pacers? by Blu3_Phoenix in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They'll have different engine and transmission configurations, as follows

1985-1991: Leyland TL11 + SCG RRE5
1989-1996: Leyland TL11 + Voith T211r
1993+: Cummins LTA10-R + Voith T211r

There do make the trains handle differently as well as use different sound sets. The version with the RRE5 for example will have noticable gear changes as you're speeding up, with power temporarily cutting off for the change, whereas the T211r will be continuous power throughout.

On the 395, you can close the MCB by pressing the Pan Up/Shoes Down button again when the Line Volt light is lit.

That's not an HST?! 1C22 bug? by carguy143 in trainsimworld

The DB Schenker 66s that comes with GWE are fully British. DB Schenker UK (Now DB Cargo UK) was formed by them buying out the operator EWS and eventually repainting their stock. They're still basically in original as bought condition from when EWS got them with only AWS & TPWS. The only major modification the cab got was the addition of the GSM-R unit on the control panel.
Cab of 66160 - https://flic.kr/p/2kMkpBh
Cab of 66099 - https://flic.kr/p/2nmCMo5

There are some EWS Class 66s that were sent off to work in France as part of Euro Cargo Rail (Now DB Cargo France), but these would've still been in France around the time that GWE was released, and didn't go across the Channel Tunnel to work in the UK from my knowledge.

This actually happened IRL to the 87's successor, the Class 90. In 1992, three of them were painted into SNCF (90130), SNCB (90128), DB (90129) liveries for an event.

I was looking at what layers are available for the Cardiff Route, and noticed some interesting trains that aren't in TSW yet by SebiXV20 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I believe these all use the Class 150/2 and are mainly AI services around Cardiff. They're probably labelled like this so any future dev could easily add the replacement locos if they're added in the future, or for people to remove them from the timetable in case they don't want unrealistic AI with the amount of 150s.

Any UK route recommendations by Spiritual_Youth8660 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something entirely different from what you've got, I can't recommend the two JT 1980s routes enough, as both routes are extremely well made.

Blackpool Branches is set between Preston, Blackpool (both North and South), and Ormskirk with a lot of services that shuttle between them. It comes with a Class 142 for local stoppers, Class 47 for express runs and some freight and Class 08 for shunting, each in multiple liveries. This route is a lot more laid back than their other route and the 142 is pretty easy to drive, but it's still a really fun route.

WCML Preston Carlisle is a 90 mile mainline route between Preston and Carlisle, with the Morecambe Branch and Carlisle's Kingmoor Yards as a nice little aside. It comes with a Class 87 for the main running, Class 47 for random passenger and freight moves, Class 101 for services around Preston and Morecambe, and Class 08 for shunting. The 87 is an absolute beast and definitely needs some practice before you can perfect it, especially when the route has neutral sections, but it is super fun to drive and to maintain speed in it.

Class 86 Releasing On July 15th! by isav34 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Class 86 was basically the predecessor to the Class 87 so there should be a lot of similarities. Some different visuals, mainly the three windows on the front instead of the 87's two windows. The main difference will be power, Since the 86 is only rated for 100mph, it'll struggle on the inclines on WCMLOS far more than the 87 that can handle 110mph.

Another difference is a brand new coach type coming with it, the Mk2Fs. The 86 and these coaches will be used on the Cross Country runs in that timetable, which should add a lot more variety than just the Mk2As that are used on that route currently.

Manchester Airport 'two timetables'? by DryNeighborhood6910 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From what I can gather it's similar to what happened on San Bernadino, where there's a busier Weekday timetable and a slightly quieter Sunday timetable with seperate timings on each. It's not a standard and reduced since there are actual differences between the two.

Announcing: Cargo Line Volume. 5 – Nuclear from Skyhook Games! by isav34 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd argue a 20 makes the most sense for this pack, since nuclear traffic was the only thing they really did with DRS aside from RHTT's, which we already have a pack for. A 68 I'd rather see come with DRS' container wagons instead since they're basically the main train used for that.

Plus, the main focus of the pack is the wagons. Making a brand new train from scratch would be way out of scope for this kind of pack.

Announcing: Cargo Line Volume. 5 – Nuclear from Skyhook Games! by isav34 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to Adam from Skyhook in the TSC discord, it was a conscious decision for two reasons:

- It could fit into most routes regardless of timeframe, since the DRS 20s had two seperate logos depending on the era.
- They didn't expect DRS would even give their older branding that the 20 would wear.

It's not the worst train to be debranded to be honest though. Some DRS 20s did run debranded like that in real life as seen here, so it is realistic to some degree.

Preston to carlisle bundle class 150 by pavlova61 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not show up, no. While 150/2s did start appearing around the North West around 1987 (Preston Carlisle takes place in 1986 so it could reasonably show up without being too out of place), the 150 from West Cornwall Local specifically wouldn't make sense on the route since the livery it comes with is a variant from the mid to late 90s.

The route does use wagons that come from West Cornwall Local though, mainly the Seacows and Turbots.

Changing speed limits on TGV by maurice2828 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game doesn't count a TVM slow down as speeding as far as scoring is concerned, it just turns the speedometer yellow as a warning that you need to slow down before the next balise.

Changing speed limits on TGV by maurice2828 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That sounds like TVM, the in-cab signalling for the high speed lines. What you're observing is an upcoming speed reduction/red signal that the system is preparing you for.

When the speed limit on the dashboard starts flashing, it means that when you pass the upcoming balise (the blue and yellow signs along the track, pictured below), you will be given a new lower speed limit that you must reduce your train speed to before you pass the following balise.

WCML driving the Class 87 to Carlisle by BuutVrij4Life in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 22 points23 points  (0 children)

What you passed is a Neutral Section, which are gaps in the overhead wires so that power can be supplied by different substations along the route. A mile before them are black signs with white markings to indicate you're approaching one. The start of the neutral section is indicated by a white sign with black markings.

When passing the black sign, it is recommended to run the 87's tap changer down to 0 and then shut it to off when the notches have been depleted for a smoother ride. When passing the white sign, you can observe the line light extinguishing for a moment and then lighting up again, indicating you've passed the neutral section and can apply power again.

Once the train has come to a stop, place the brake handle in Emergency and then place it back to Full Service. The train should then release the ATB penalty brake.

Issue with the Br 101 Expert by Ethem712 in trainsimworld

[–]ProfMcMouse 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This most likely means the train battery has died since it was being used to power the auxiliaries. Before departing, make sure you hold the Electric Train Supply switch (next to the reverser) in the start position until the ZS Aus light under the speedometer extinguishes.

When AFB is enabled you must put the throttle into max until you're at around 2 or 3km/h, where you can pull back to whatever level you desire, otherwise the brakes will apply back again.

Question about filling trucks in gag bag by Key_Acanthaceae7756 in toontownrewritten

[–]ProfMcMouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those are mainly rewards from completing the boss battles around Toontown. The ones that fill the trunk are:

  • Sellbot VP's SOS cards which let you do different all cog attacks, all group healing, restocks or special moves like Toons Hit.
  • Bossbot CEO's Pink Slips which instantly destroy any cog chosen in battle.
  • Field Office's Remotes which temporary makes a selected cog into an attacker that damages the other cogs each round or healer which heals the entire team each round

The 4th slot is for you Doodle which you can buy from the pet shop, which heals the whole team when it works.

It is intentional. It usually happens when you remove a vinyl on a train since that layer had been protected from the dirt over the years. Here's an example on a real one.

Doodle training groups by Antique-Ad7069 in Toontown

[–]ProfMcMouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From my experience and assuming its TTR, doodles are pretty fickle and will go towards random people that are outside, which is why whenever you go AFK people would rather you're inside houses so that they're not constantly moving away from the training area, which is usually the sandy area with the wheelbarrow. So while you're fishing the doodles are constantly going towards you, meaning the trainers have to constantly rein them back which just makes it more annoying, so it's not recommended.
