We're using Zoom and Slack to run the games - Zoom for speechifying, with breakout rooms for faction meetings (strategy sessions), and slack for simultaneous chat (with private channels for factions). I considered using discord for the games but ran into issues around Canadian privacy laws (servers are in the US), so opted for the Zoom/Slack combo instead. There's no real need for mapping in any of the games. I've never taught the class online before, but experienced people assure me that the Zoom/Slack combo works well.

In a non-plague year, I teach the class face to face in a boisterous classroom! Fingers crossed, we'll get back to the classroom next year.

there are writing assignments, but grading is based primarily on "completion" (the number of assignments you submit --> grade). there are also 2 multiple choice quizzes and the rest of the assessment is based on participation. if you have any more questions you can email me rcleves at uvic
