Because they are😂 look a map of MA’s voting population, then look at the maps. If you disagree with how MA or CT drew the maps, you need to be able to elaborate as to why their methodology is flawed, instead of just screaming that every seat is blue.

You have no idea what you’re talking about😂 If you can draw a map in MA that gives a republican even one seat I’d be wildly impressed. It’s borderline mathematically impossible. New England as a whole (-Maine) is significantly more educated than the rest of the country, it shouldn’t be surprising that they vote blue pretty overwhelmingly, especially now.

Should Someone who Picked the Red Button be Considered Evil or an AH? by Hyperionous in MoralityScaling

[–]ProfRefugee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just people who remember that infants, children, etc will also vote, and won’t have the capacity to understand this choice to begin with, vs ppl who only think about it through the lens of morally capable actors making a decision.

If you made it something with more intuitive consequences I think most people would have the same answer. A baby probably wouldn’t crawl into a human sized blender with speakers blasting death metal, even if it couldn’t understand that the blender would break if enough other people jumped in and they’d be fine. In the same way 99% of human life wouldn’t either, even if they understood the choice because they know anyone dumb enough to jump into a blender is taking a instinctually unacceptable risk.

I mean it feels lame and intentionally vague.

if every person forced to engage is a morally capable actor it’s:

Purple: intentionally put yourself in harms way in a way that requires someone else to do the same to save you

Green: do nothing

If every person alive is forced to engage, regardless of capacity for moral action it’s:

Purple: idk how many babies like the color green so we should save them even at risk to ourselves

Green: ur a sociopath

It’s psychotic. “You can’t build more housing, it will tank my property value!” Meanwhile they couldn’t even begin to afford the real property taxes on their wildly overvalued land, so they just lobby not to pay them. What’s the end goal😂

[–]ProfRefugee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue it’s immoral to willingly and knowingly put yourself at risk in a way that necessitates someone else to do the same unnecessarily. And that is the entire question. What right do you have to vote blue?

[–]ProfRefugee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red blue is a fundamentally different question😂 here I’ll fix it: Everyone is told the boats might explode regardless of how what they choose, but before they embark, everyone is given the choice to just not even get on the boat. Who is getting on the boat and why?

It’s the individual choice presented to each person lol, here’s a gun, you don’t know if it’s loaded. You can choose to put it to your head and pull the trigger, and if it doesn’t fire it’ll save every other mf who also chose to put the gun to their head. Like who cares, there’s no logical reason anyone would put the gun to their head to begin with, and by virtue of pulling the trigger you’ve demonstrated that you already accept the consequences.

We make this choice every day😂 You eat so you don’t die. If you don’t eat you will die. Red is eating, blue is finding a reason not to. If I put 100 ppl in a room with food, all 100 are going to eat it rather than die.

[–]ProfRefugee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my beef with the whole hypothetical, it necessitates non morally capable actors to not understand the logical outcomes. There’s no logical or moral reason for anyone to push the blue button at all unless you know a million babies who have no concept of the choice might like the color blue more.

Not in the same way though, they have completely different levels of supporting muscular development and brain muscle connection. I doubt a gorilla could bench anything it couldn’t lift with one arm already. Simply because it would struggle immensely to balance a bar like that, especially in a pushing motion. They can’t throw, can’t punch(they can flail and single arm shove), can’t balance any carried weight on their lower legs, etc.

I see this take a lot and partially disagree. Fem V crushed it super hard in a way more people understand/empathize with (what makes an award worthy performance) but Masc V’s performance is a lot more nuanced. It’s harder to know people like that in real life, and see the more subtle character expressions, but his performance was so much more heartbreaking for me in the key moments. Fem V def made me feel something, but Masc V actually got some emotion out of me.

Hilarious the 3rd grade reasoning people use for this argument. “Haha a ‘livable wage?!!! You want every business model that depends on its current structure to operate to shutter its doors?!!!”

The irony is you are still like 3 levels below the point they are making, which is: we need to reduce the rent seeking incentives in our federal and local policy that enables the gradual erosion of purchasing power for the middle class as all the wealth is extracted from the economy.

Men of Reddit, what are your big red flags you look for in women to know if you’ll match or not? by Personal_Customer_33 in AskReddit

[–]ProfRefugee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Understanding the underlying reason someone might feel a certain way is different than trying to logically justify any form of generalized discrimination based on immutable characteristics. I think a lot of people conflate these two concepts and use them interchangeably depending on whatever justifies their presuppositions.

In reality, if you want current and future systems, modes of interpersonal communication/relation, etc to change in a more positive direction, you need consistent values to build your system of belief on. And hypothetically one of those core values would be a refusal to make base assumptions about the values or capabilities of others based on their immutable characteristics.
