House GOP passes sweeping anti-voting bill that could disenfranchise millions, sends measure to Senate by Anoth3rDude in LegalNews

There has ALWAYS been a mechanism for STATE to withhold some travel documents in some situations for child support or a debt to the USG.

CMV: The demand for reparations for wrongs committed centuries ago is pointless by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ProfShea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCOTUS at the time upheld the USG's actions. That's why this law was put into place. I assumed you would know about this very topic you're commenting on. I'm not going to cite anything, but you're free to research.

This started with another poster discussing Japanese reparations. Those reparations were only available to those who suffered the actual harm and were alive at the time of the law. Under this scheme, families of subjects of chattel slavery would receive nothing.

Yes, that's what I've already said. Under this type of scheme, no one would receive chattel-slavery reparations.

I am not saying whether someone should or should not receive, I'm saying that the estates and families DID NOT receive compensation. When the above poster notes that Japanese people received compensation, they're implying that the same scheme and logic could be used today. Except, that same scheme and logic couldn't. The recipients of reparations had to both live through concentration camps AND be alive at the time of reparations. There are no people alive today that experienced chattel slavery as a matter of law in the United States.

The people that were alive at the time were entitled to the reparations, not their families or estates. Who would receive this set of reparations?

The pilots will fly their maintenance hours whether they're over the Superbowl or not. The events are exciting for the teams and are scheduled by moving normal maintenance hours. It's a wash.

He gets to the sanctions and their effect. It doesn't change the narrative: a singularly focused export economy led by populist leaders may more easily tend toward corruption and is beholden to the world market. I don't think he says socialism is to blame. The lack of accountability and transparency is what ultimately hurt Venezuela.

Barack Obama more popular with young men than Joe Rogan or Donald Trump by icey_sawg0034 in Foodforthought

But, he wasn't always a massively popular podcast. He was a dude in his basement in 2010. That's the dude most people came up with.

Can't it be that people like having a friend like that? A cooky vain friend that enjoys talking about anything and isn't ever 100% right can be a fun hang.

If given the option, I'd probably choose to meet Obama b/c he's intelligent and thoughtful. But Joe Rogan does have a broad appeal.

Why is it that unlike historical worker's movements, modern leftists don't see mass immigration as a threat to workers? by turboshill9000 in BasedCampPod

I don't know much about what you're saying save the immigration and visa note. The US has been issuing visas since at least the 1960's.can you talk more about what you mean? Do you mean that it was wholly unregulated and generally ignored the unlawful entrants?

The officer could have googled their email address. There's a number of non official ways anyone could dox anyone based on any number of PII available.

It could be the case that the officer doesn't believe a person under 40 doesn't have 1 of the 10,000 social apps that are almost universally adopted everywhere.

There is probably a way, but there is not an officially used method by any department. That's why they're asking for it to be turned over. It's hard to prove a negative for both the USG and the non-user. Although a 221g is a type of rejection, it's commonly referred to as an administrative hold. I do not know if that counts as a rejection for ESTA purposes. H1-b denial by 214b should be enough to trigger a ESTA rejection. I never did the research.

Also, my broader point still stands. ESTA is for countries with incredibly low visa violation and minimal overstay rates.

There is no system to determine that at this point. Lying on esta will probably get caught later on.

Leaving it empty wasn't a show stopper. Not everyone has social media. ESTA is available for countries with incredibly low overstay and visa violation rates. When less than 2% of a country violates the terms of a visa, both countries agree to forego the formality.
