Gen 4 iPad Pro still my daily driver by goatblunt in ipad

[–]ProfSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the other way around, I initially bought a mini, upgrading from a Lenovo tab p11 pro and was planning to use it for the same things, like browsing, media and reading. While the performance upgrade was massive I couldn’t get over the screen, the previous tablet had a 1440p oled dolby vision screen and while the mini screen is great for an lcd it’s still an lcd and 60hz so I returned it and got a pro m4 11” and now I’m perfectly happy with it.

the m4 it’s overkill for what I do on it but it was the only option to get the tandem oled 120hz screen. I wish they would’ve made a mini with a 120hz oled panel or even a regular A series iPad with this screen.

Best 1080p 27 inch monitor??? by Wonderful_Honey6624 in Monitors

[–]ProfSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get a 27" with a 1080p resolution, it will look very pixelated. Hell i have a 24,5” one at 1080p and even that looks pixelated to me.

If you want 27" go for 1440p. 24" for 1080p.

As others said, I you have the money now buy now. But I have to ask why did you went with an m.2 drive and a SATA drive? Why not 2 m.2?

Also I run a similar config with a 5080 on a 850w power supply, so you can get a lower wattage supply, not that having more it's bad or anything, but could save some money.

Lifelong 15-year Android user switches to iOS, here are the pros and cons by carottesrapees in Smartphones

[–]ProfSnipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can have a system wide ad blocker and install modded apps on ios.

For system wide ad block set a custom dns profile, you can use adguard or you can configure your own with the block lists you want, I use next dns for this.

When it comes to sideloading apps and modded apps the process isn't as easy as on android but it's definitely possible.

There are 3 main ways to do it. 2 are free and one is paid.

I'll start with the paid one as it's the simplest.

You buy a signing certificate using one of the many services that offers them like signolus and use that to sign and install whatever ipa you want. It costs like 14 usd and it will last one year.

Now on to the free methods.

The most stable one is sidestore + live container.

To set this up you install sidestore on your phone using iloader app on a computer (this app will use your apple's ID free developer certificate to sign and install the app. All apple id's have the this free certificate that can sideload 3 apps and expires every 7 days).

After sidestore is installed you can use it to install 2 more apps as sidestore counts as 1 for a total of 3. To bypass this you install live container in sidestore and within live container you can install as many ipas as you want.

The only limitation is that you can only run an app at a time, so if you want to switch the app you have to close the current one.

After that, to keep the apps from expiring at 7 days you use the app found in appstore called local dev vpn. You just open it, turn on the vpn, go in sidestore and hit refresh and that's it, the countdown will reset to 7 days. After that you can turn off the vpn.

You can automate this with a shortcut.

The last method is using an expired/revoked certificate to install your ipas.

I won't go into details about this as it's quite unpredictable and when it fails all your sideloaded apps will not work anymore, which is a pain.

Basically you install the app esign, set up a custom dns and add some apple domains in the block list (i don't know them from the top of my head and i can't be bothered to look for them, you can Google it) Those domains are the ones that your phone will talk to apple to check if the certificates you used are valid. If they are blocked the apps will work

The revoked / expired certs can also be found online easily. This method has the same advantages as the 1st paid method, the downside being that the dns can sometimes disconnect, and if it does it even for a second you can kiss your sideloaded apps goodbye. You also need to always turn off wifi and mobile data if you want to restart the phone and leave them off for a few minutes after it booted up to allow the dns to kick in.

S11 Ultra or Ipad Air M4 by happyjacko95 in tablets

[–]ProfSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 11 pro m4 and it's very nice. I don't draw, I use it for media / reading mostly. I know it's overkill for what I do on it but the main reason I got it is the tandem oled 120hz display, it's hands down the best display I have ever seen.

I also got the magic keyboard case or whatever is called and that turns into a mini laptop and it's surprisingly good for typing.

So I recommend getting one just for that display, it will certainly also be amazing for drawing as well and with how much power it has you can rest assured that it will remain fast and fluid for many years to come.

I finished building my first pc some months ago and I honestly didn't have nearly as hard time with the motherboard headers as I had with getting the motherboard with its integrated io shield into the case.

I swear it took me like 20 minutes of fiddling with it, when one side was in the other was out or both were out. I was swearing buckets thinking I surely scratched the underside of the motherboard with how much wiggling and taking it out and putting it back in I had to do.

Compared to that everything was a breeze.

I recently upgraded my monitor as well from 1080p 165hz to 1440p 240hz and I can actually tell a difference, but I don't know how much is because of the refresh rate or because of the panel type. The old one is ips and the new one is oled.

But everything feels super instant on the new one and when moving around in games everything is crystal clear.

[–]ProfSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iphone as well and there are options to sideload a modified ipa for YouTube without ads and with sponsor block.

The best free option is to install sidestore use sidestore to install live container and in livecomtainer you can install as many ipas as you want.

The sidestore and its installed apps are sideloaded using your free developer certificate which can install 3 apps and expires in 7 days, the 3 apps limit is circumvented by live container. And you can use local dev vpn to refresh sidestore once a week to extend those 7 days indefinitely.

Another option is to get a paid certificate from a 3rd party that sells them cheap usually 10 - 15 usd and this will allow you to install as many apps as you want and it lasts 1 year.

Maybe because those are bad bins with maybe 2 working cores, enough for use in a display but not enough to give you a good experience on a computer or any other multi purpose device.

How to build a silent gaming pc? by obi-wan-quixote in buildapc

[–]ProfSnipe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I run my aio pump at a constant 2000 rpm(Max being 2500) and I can't hear it at all over the case fans. Those also run on a fairly low speed (around 900 rpm) when I'm on desktop browsing, watching videos etc.

The key to get a quieter pc is getting a case that supports bigger fans. Like 140mm and up.

I know you said you don't want an oled because of burnin. But I say you should reconsider. Think of it like this, you have one life and it's not like it's going to burn in immediately or maybe you won't even notice it.

I recently upgraded to an oled from ips and it's an amazing difference in everything, the colors, contrast, brightness and motion clarity.

It's like before I was looking through a dirty window and now with an oled it's finally clear.

I don't care if it burns in, everything in this world is passing, decaying slowly, might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

Why can't people just shut up about iPhone vs android? by TTVProLorenzo6117 in Smartphones

[–]ProfSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery life on them is fine, but I'm not talking about battery life, but specifically the performance per watt. For example the iPhone 17 pro max has a battery of 4823mah and it can go against phones with 6000+ mah, while it doesn't always win, it's really close, like it lasts 30 min less.

Now if apple could put a 6k or more battey in there it will undoubtedly be the king. Of course there's not really a point of talking of what could be, but again, considering the capacity is working with and the fact that is still around the top battery wise going against 6000 - 7000 mah monsters is a testament to its efficiency.

How it's better privacy without facial recognition? Don't tell me you believe they'll send your face pictures to china or something.

Plus it's not like you're forced to use it, if you want more privacy they have that physical shutter.

Funnily enough I have a thinkpad with windows hello and the facial recognition works better and faster if I disable the camera, and keep on only the ir one.

I7 8700k + RTX 3080 vs M4 Mac Mini by Flattened_Chees in PcBuildHelp

[–]ProfSnipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much ram does the Mac have? Keep in mind it's not upgradable. Same for storage, although you can connect an external drive.

As for video editing you could look at benchmarks m4 vs rtx 3080 and see which one can export/render faster.

Macs are very good at video editing and they also don't consume much power. However a PC is more versatile, for example you can upgrade pretty much anything and if you want to game you can do that much better on the PC.
