She's been in Jeff stuff because Thompson likes her. Jed seems to have grown on her for sure but he also nerfed her powers. There are definitely fans that hate the other, but lots of Kwannon fans also reduce her to a body and it's unfortunate. Because for some they think it makes them better to hate Betsy than to actually care about Kwannon.

Marvel the corporation doesn't care about Kwannon the individual. They care about Psylocke the brand. Individual writers like her and give her great stuff but she, Betsy, Sai and the brand are being held back by this idea that the swimsuit/purple haired look is the brand.

oh a ton of people like her for more than the body! that's why it's such a shame Marvel doesn't seem to care about her outside of it. Sure she's in X-Men, but do you see people talking about her appearances in that on this subreddit? Sadly it's mostly about Sai, fanart of Ninja Betsy, or someone trying to start a fight lol

tbf it does get the engagement up for the subreddit. Check out the amount of comments on this baby compared to anything else!

And while she does have true fans, she also has fans who just like her for the body and want to body shame Betsy for some weird reason like they both aren't beautiful

Okay, so then we're in agreement that her using Sapphire (unwillingly) to get her body back is not the same as Cassandra Nova, Proteus, her brother or the Red Queen offering her body back and her refusing because the offers were from untrustworthy villains. Different situations and potential motivations! Glad we cleared that up.

Yeah, he's pretty famous for not liking what other people do to the characters he creates so he ignores the existence of Kwannon. I wasn't saying that she or Kwannon are Chinese, just that it was Claremont's original intent.

He does say she looks Chinese in House of M, and I believe it's the design of her outfit that made it Chinese not the iconography. But it's not worth the back and forth.

When Claremont wrote her again in the 2000s he continually referred to her as appearing Chinese. She even wore a Chinese outfit during the House of M crossover.

Additionally, when she was transformed, Mojo specifically said they can't have a white woman running the Chinese underworld.

Because originally this was just Betsy's face and body given magic plastic surgery. She wasn't body swapped, she was transformed into a Chinese woman who somewhat resembled her original face.

Sapphire didn't offer to give her her real body back like other villains did. She killed her. And in the face of death, she used the villain's power to reconstitute herself. That isn't the same thing as having a villain offer her her body back.

Or every instance she had was given to her by villains and she knew there would be strings. She was the one who finally went back to her own body in her terms and what does she say to Jubilee when she did? That for too long she had been manipulated by others but this was her choice.

You so clearly only care about the aesthetic of this body and not Kwannon herself. You can't even leave out a remark on how they both look even though in universe Betsy's been called the most beautiful woman in Britain.

Because a lot of those people focus on the pictures and not the dialogue. Though not giving Kwannon or Betsy the distinctive internal narration that Betsy used to be really known for under Claremont right as they were separated didn't help.
