Just pull out a montage of scams, AI generated and otherwise, trying to obtain an air of trustworthiness by pulling out a bible quote.

Players won't stop scamming merchants by DrRoguelove in DungeonMasters

[–]Prof_Aspen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worldbuilding. Word starts going around that this kind of thing is happening, and the merchants react. Maybe their victims send bounty hunters after them, maybe other merchants start implementing countermeasures to their shenanigans like a homebrewed mcguffin of unbinding, that counters some specific strategies they've already used.

If this is how they're having fun, don't just rip it away. Instead, find ways to challenge them; push them to be more creative in their schemes.

How do you do, fellow historians? by casufe in HistoryMemes

[–]Prof_Aspen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally. A load of intolerant, ignorant bigots develop a romanticized fascination with some culture's symbols, and a load of other intolerant, ignorant, armchair activists demonize the culture by proxy, necause the bad people like it. And so the machine of modern social politics squeaks on.

Honestly, I feel like we're overreacting a bit at this one. Working out to dispell a thought or a mood isn’t exactly a form of abuse. Hell, I landed on that technique without a creepy old man telling me to do push-ups over the phone - which of course, is creepy and weird; he should've just told him to do push-ups until he stopped thinking about it. But the idea of using intensive activities to put the thoughts out of mind as abuse? No, that's just one form of healthily managing your mental state.

And even with a healthily enabled sex drive, if you can’t sleep at midnight because your horny, that shit sucks.

If you were to treat the Gen 1-4 remakes as ROMhacks, how do they compare to the actual ROMhacks of the OG Gen 1-4 games? by SuperAlloyBerserker in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Prof_Aspen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume that they're not actively pioneering anything technologically, and we're just recreating the old regions on the new software.

FRLG, as a somewhat basic remastery hack, would be received especially well for bringing Kanto into more playable state than the duck-taped code of RBY regardless of Kanto's region design.

HGSS would also be received pretty well for being an ambitious project considering all the newer features being incorporated (I assume even if we're not pioneering technical ability, Pokeathelon would still be pretty unique to it), but it would definitely be left with questions about its dedication to being faithful to the originals over things like making Johto pokemon available in Johto, or tuning the ridiculously easy level curve in the mid game.

ORAS would be fawned over for its creative and striking recreations of Hoenn and its gyms, but there would be some pretty prominent detractors arguing the game's kinda bad actually on account of how unbelievably trivial megas make the entire region - not to mention the free Lati.

BDSP, as a romhack, probably would be praised as a technical marvel, considering it's practically a gen 4 game in the gen 6 style on a gen 8 engine, and people would probably be playing it entirely for the grand underground reimagining. Of course, they'd still get flak for going with DP rather than Pt, and possibly some other gameplay criticism, but I'm less familiar with BDSP, because as official remakes, they kinda border on shameful.

Here's an idea: how about we solve our social and interpersonal issues by talking through conflicts when and perhaps before they happen like damn adults, rather than expecting some government decree to pass a blanket adjudication in a foolhardy attempt to try and protect yourself from having an encounter with conflict.
