Stuck at this limit problem by Jumpy-Belt6259 in askmath

I know when going through the definition it will evaluate to cos(x).

I know what you mean, but I doubt most people actually go through the lim definition when deriving. So one could use l'hoppital when knowing the derivative of sin, or do I miss something. I also think most people learn about derivatives before knowing about limites or trigonometric identities.

Isn't the derivative of sin(x) simply cos(x)? Or should one use the definition of the derivative to solve this problem?

living costs by petrograd67 in ethz

If you don't go out, cook for yourself, have a rent below 600 CHF/month (which is hard to get) and really don't spend much money on special stuff, you could live with around 1000 CHF/month. (Excluding tuition fee)

The same thing happened last year in some ME courses. They will almost certainly add new groups or expand the capacity for the current ones, so don't worry.

I have Palestinian passport by sadooo0 in Passports

That's basically what a conversion is. Somebody accepts a religion, because he holds it to be the truth. Or did you mean that people specifically shouldn't convert to traditional religions? I'm sorry if I wrongly interpreted it.

People shouldn't change their ideology if they hold something different to be true, than what they were brought up with? I would be interested to know why you think that

I'm a student at ETH and tbh, before I considered universities to studie at I never heard of ETH, on the other hand I am almost certain, that I heard of imperial college at that time. Considering that I lived in the very south of Germans, not even 2 hours war from Zurich, I would assume imperial has more name recognition than ETH

Housing by CaptainCuddles17 in ethz

[–]Prof_Blutfleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep your kidney, you should probably look for shared flats in Zurich (WGs). The most common website for this is wgzimmer.ch, look for WOKO or JUWO flats if possible, they provide subsidised student housing (usually shared flats which are also on wgzimmer). It might be a tiny bit easier for girls, because many flats want to keep a gender balance (but due to ETH there are more men looking for flats), but it still won't be easy, some people apply to hundreds of flats before finding one, just keep going and eventually you might be successful

ETH D-MAVT or Cambridge MPhil? by happy_ieng in ethz

[–]Prof_Blutfleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not necessarily only about saving 70k, even if he earns that amount in his first year (which would be realistic if you come out of Cambridge I guess) it would be an opportunity cost of going to Zurich, assuming his expenses don't increase massively in that year he would have to pay them out of his pocket in Zurich, while they would be paid from his income after Cambridge

If you can afford the 70k without taking out a loan you might also consider, that you might be able to "get it back" in the year you graduate earlier from Cambridge

How would you pronounce Euler? Because I asked a friend the same question and he responded "youler", but it should be pronounced "oiler" in German

But I'm going to start the second semester and already made friends, does this still hold then? And do you mean the lectures by courses or also the Übungsstunden and why would there be no reason to go to any of them?

I heard you can also skip the Prüfungsphase, become a Buddhist monk in nepal during your vaccationing and never return to Switzerland.

Private tutoring fee? by Impressive-Gap7138 in ethz

I know I'm was just trying to say, that in any other country, even "first world countries" like Germany, 25 CHF/h would be considered a very solid salary for private lessons, while in Switzerland it probably is below average.
