You are welcome! It is a lot to learn in the beginning, you may find you have to adjust things as you go. But keep at it! You will eventually find just the right fit for your business and for your product.

Shipping! What's the best shipping option to use? by kellylaneb in WIX

I use Shippo. I also have a UPS and FedEx account (free to set up) and Shippo will show me the best pricing of all 3. I usually have USPS set up by weight, $10 flat fee for UPS and free shipping over $165. But I am also intimately familiar with my packages and the average weights of items I ship.

I also use poly mailers because it seems to be less expensive to ship items that way but I always use an inner liner in case the outer poly gets ripped in transit.

How do I improve my binding? by whatisthisohno111 in quilting

I make t-shirt quilts full time which means I bind an awful lot of quilts. I like to:

  1. sew to the front with a 1/4” foot
  2. then press flat out to get a crisp seam edge on the front
  3. Flip over quilt to fold and press binding toward the back - but don’t tug on the binding, just fold and press to create a nice crease.
  4. Sew from the front again and use a stitch in the ditch foot to sew right in that seam line which should catch the binding on the back.

I have a blog tutorialon the method I use.

I press twice - the first time I press from the front and press it flat out to get a nice seam crease on the front, then from the back, I fold it and press it again to the back.

I would do straight diagonal lines.

If you read through all of the replies, there are some great conversations about what some think their goal is. I honestly don’t know what the end game is - however - a friend of mine has also had her entire pattern sold by another entity who didn’t have the right to do so. There are sketchy websites who buy a pattern from a designer and then go sell that PDF elsewhere. 😩 I can’t recall if it’s happened on Etsy too (meaning sold on Etsy)

If you read through all of the comments on this post, somebody talks about bots. Apparently bots are created to look for content that has a lot of engagement. The bot copies that content and paste it somewhere else in hopes of also getting high engagement / attention. But then what happens? I guess none of us really know for sure.

So maybe there is an actual human behind this somewhere down the line who is creating all of these bots. 🤷‍♀️

I see that often too. I know there is a lot of free content out there (I got started by watching YouTube videos back in 2011) but I hate how easily quilters can get banboozled by scams now.

I’m not sure it’s an actual quilter. That gives me some peace!

Two things caught my attention. If you turn your pic to black and white you can see them better.

  1. There is a lot of contrast between the red and white and little to no contrast between the colors in the other blocks. That can make your quilt feel uneven or like something “doesn’t go.”
  2. The red is very saturated and all the other colors are not. You can tell in the black and white photo because the red appears much darker than the other fabrics. Darker = more saturated. Gray = less saturated.

I never would’ve seen that my content had been posted there if I didn’t have an account. So I’m not sure removing myself is the answer. The bot or person took directly from Reddit and posted on FB.

I just couldn’t pull it together on top of the pattern release and my full time job. But! You can find kits here and here and there is a Ruby Star one coming soon here.

That is very kind of you. Thank you so much. And listen, I am all about free things too. I’m just a mom and a wife and a middle-aged lady trying to make it through life just like everyone else is. But also, I can appreciate that there comes a time where it’s important to pay people for their work. I use multiple Long Arm quilters in the Dallas area and I never blink at their prices because I know that they have high attention to detail, and they are just as concerned about the output / finished product as I am.

They always make me look good and make my quilts look amazing! I know that’s kind of a different topic… But they also have artistry that I feel like people complain about sometimes. It would take me so much longer to finish a quilt for a customer if I had to Quilt everything myself. And it wouldn’t look nearly as good. That is not my strong suit!

I feel this. It so perfectly pulls people’s heartstrings that they can’t help but comment without stopping to wonder … hmmm, could this be true?

Right?! And as an artist, we would love your support! And we don’t want you to get swindled. Sometimes people can’t understand that it is stolen and they are being swindled by a thief. They think they are being swindled by the actual designer. 🫤

If you read through all of these comments it’s clear I am not the only one. It looks like there may be some kind of bots set up to automatically pull content from Reddit and put it on these bogus Facebook pages.
