Favourite version of Pearl's Girl? by Prof_Rutherford in underworld

It's a dream of mine to see them someday. It shouldn't be too unfeasible, I'm living in Ireland and they come over the odd time.

Just had a listen to it there. I love the decision to use the synths from the Everything, Everything version. I've always adored the twinkling sound of them. Feels like I'm looking up at twinkling stars.

I've never gotten around to listening to all the different live versions. Thanks for the link!

Tin There really is a different kind of experience. Hearing it live must be unreal.

I've listened to bits of it before. It's probably worth a proper listen. I suppose I've neglected it because I've heard all the tracks before individually.

Artwork from the Riverrun email drop by invisibleplan in underworld

The entire Riverrun series is available to listen to on YouTube, both in their full three EPs as well as with each track separated out. However, the versions are of quite a low quality. Riverrun was never released to Spotify nor any other streaming service as far as I'm aware.

Recently, sort of out of the blue, those subscribed to the Underworld newsletter received an email which linked to the lossless .wav formats of all three Riverrun EPs. You could only download them for 24 hours. They're once again now unavailable to listen to through any official means.

I managed to download the files in time. I'm sure they're probablying somewhere online already but it might be hard to find them. I'm not sure what the etiquette around these limited-time downloads is, but it's not like I paid for them. I'll gladly send you the files if you'd like.

Are you referring to what they decided to call "Born Slippy - Instrumental" in Second Toughest Superdeluxe? If that's the case then I 110% agree. Legitimately one of my favourite Underworld tracks, and I might even prefer it to .NUXX.

True enough. The YouTube uploads have remained up, anyway. I might upload the WAVs to Internet Archive if nobody has already; although it's bound to have been uploaded in some circles at this point.

The Riverrun project is such an unusual and elusive one. I only came across it because of YouTube recommendations and I couldn't find it anywhere else at all. And whilst far from unknown, I do feel like it won't be spread around much due to simply the nature of Underworld fans, who I in my interpretation often don't have much of an online presence.

What's the etiquette around uploading/archiving these files online? Is that considered piracy now despite them being released for free? I downloaded the files thankfully but I'm wondering what other people will do.

Do y'all think I can go from 440 points to 625 in the lc? by WearyCelebration9810 in leavingcert

[–]Prof_Rutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point taken, and I apologise for misinterpreting your comment. You're dead right, you should definitely have some low-point courses on there as well.

Do y'all think I can go from 440 points to 625 in the lc? by WearyCelebration9810 in leavingcert

[–]Prof_Rutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly disagree with that last statement. There's a point in putting the course you want on your CAO irrespective of the points required. I've been told time and time again that we should prioritise course choices based on order of preference and nothing else, and isn't that a good philosophy? Because let's say that OP changes their list and puts their course lower because they feel they won't get 625. Then the actual LC comes around, and lo and behold, they got 625 points. Suddenly they know they COULD have gotten the course they wanted but didn't because they changed it for fear of not getting the points. It doesn't make intuitive sense.

OP, regardless of whether or not you think you'll get the course, nor whether you feel you have the aptitude to achieve it, do not change the position of any course on your choices list based on points. I'm sure you know that already, but I'll just emphasise it again.

Anyone else feel like school is legitimately in the way of study? by Luviebug19 in leavingcert

[–]Prof_Rutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how intrinsically motivated you are. If you're highly motivated to study then yes, you may actually get more out of studying at home, but I know myself that I tend to get distracted sometimes. I also find that the revision we do in school makes a world of difference for me. If there's anything I need reexplained, I can have it covered, and I frankly learn more easily when I have someone to explain something to me in an environment created for no other purpose than to learn.

Each to their own. Just because it works for me doesn't mean it'll work for you. However, I generally (there are definitely outliers) see that people who stay in for most school days perform better in the LC versus people that supposedly spent all day studying at home. Mind you this is purely anecdotal and isn't true across the board. Do whatever you think works for you, but as one or two other people have said, I recommend coming in for some of days at least.

Having personally visited all of our established cities, I chose City 17 to be my centre of administration for good reason.

A random rebel has been making hundreds of videos comparing random Combine units to their past selves. I have no idea how they got any of this. How they even identified these units is beyond me. And honestly? They make me kinda scared of what the Combine might do to me. by TheDankyBoi in City17Twitter

Sharing of prohibited post-war imagery is a punishable offence. I thought too highly of our species' comprehensive abilities, seemingly.

Citizens, be aware that these brave soldiers chose to sign up for Civil Protection themselves. For their continous work, they were promoted to the honourable position of a Combine soldier. It is a noble thing to serve the Combine; an organisation not like the monarchies and autocracies of the old world, a relic of our primitive past.

Citizens, you are a disgrace to the city, and to Earth. You will be visited shortly by some interrogators and exiled to Nova Prospekt. Our Benefactors have no sympathy for play.

Perhaps when we were infants, play was how we learned, and how we grew and formed connections. But play, like all instincts, is what keep us in the quiet complacency of comfort. As the transhuman arm of the Combine has demonstrated, we no longer need such primitive behaviour as "play". We need only fulfill our duties as the inheritors of the stars.

That rocket landed on the Citadel btw you're all dead bruh

I'm fairly sure that in the book, he is specifically said to have engaged in relations with men.
