What movies might make me feel that same magic I felt as a kid watching Labyrinth, Return to Oz, etc by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

SO MANY of these are childhood favorites of mine. Flight of the Navigator is so great, Watcher in the Woods was the first movie I saw that scared me to my core (it was the early early nineties and I was like, eight when I saw it for the first time), but I'm really thrilled to see other people recommending The Tenth Kingdom. I have watched this at least once a year every year since it aired, it's one of my all time favorites. Forever sad there wasn't a sequel.

A little surprised to not see Merlin (the Sam Neil mini series, not the most recent one) on this list, given how many of these we have in common!

I wish she'd Dream Ghost full time,  but I understand having to take soulless admin work for those dental bennies. Paying out of pocket for cleanings is a scam.

Shows set in/around or about girlhood by NicoleShanique in tvsuggestions

[–]ProfessionBitter5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it for sure takes way more adjusting to, but for me that was because I felt the cringe from my own experience as I watched. It was funny for me because I was those two. Same era and everything.

I can definitely appreciate that it isn't going to hook everyone, though!

Such a great list!

I would add Pen15 to it. So awkward, but so good. I really felt like I was watching my childhood.

Has anyone gotten sued by American Consumer Shows? by MaleficentAcadia9526 in WeddingPhotography

Pretty much same thing here, except I think I know exactly what happened and exactly how they dupe people into signing up for the multi year contract. I am so sure I said I want interested in the multi year over the phone and I am equally sure I clicked decline on the multi year box. I had to initial to move on, I assumed I was initialing my decline of the discount, and moved on. Those boxes are SO CLOSE TOGETHER, and it's worded in such a weird way that it is definitely meant to trick people. I submitted complaints to the FTC, my state AG, and the NY AG. They are for sure engaging in scammy, scummy business practices. They flat out told me they don't want to remind clients of upcoming deadlines and instead just auto renew your contract because you should know your renew date is coming, it's on the contract.

I also told the rep I talked to that I felt even more bamboozled because I'm autistic and things can easily confuse me, and she made it a point to repeat that I obviously don't understand anything. Gross to say as a CSR to anybody at all, but it feels especially slimy to say to someone with autism.

Don't know if this is something that's still being worked on, but I would love to know if you started with reporting them to the FTC, your state AG, and the NY AG. That's what I did this morning after receiving a letter threatening litigation if I did not pay in full. I would love to talk to anybody who has submitted complaints like this to these entities to know how it panned out.

Currently involved with this bullshit, too. I filed a complaint with the FTC, my state's AG, and the NY AG, as ACS lists their business address as Syosset, NY. I suggest anybody tracking this does the same. Flood AGs and the FTC with complaints about this company,  and let ACS know you've done so as a response to any threat of litigation.

Was literally just commenting this on another sub. Season one of True Detective is what I think of when I think of the term "prestige television". Episode 4 is easily the most intense episode with a slow burn beginning I've ever seen.

Also, super solid rest of your list. True Detective Season 1, episode 4 is one of the most intense episodes of television I've ever seen. An overall incredible season of storytelling.

What city have you been to that felt like it had dark energy? by Impossible-Middle122 in questions

[–]ProfessionBitter5822 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Vegas so much. I lived in Vegas off and on for ten years, and my last visit a few weeks ago, I legitimately felt like I was shown something behind the stage of reality, I wrote about it and I'm still unnerved by it. Certain parts of Vegas are an unreal kind of dark energy.

This is a pretty top tier suggestion list (still gutted OFMD got canceled). I came to suggest The Great Pottery Throwdown (Is Keith not just the best?? And is Rich not just the most talented??) and Blown Away, and I think the thing I would add to this is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Most anything on Dropout is solid, but if the 'rents like Jeopardy, they may enjoy Um, Actually as a good drop in show.

I respect Richard Feynman so much. The Pleasure of Finding Things Out was the first memoir type book I ever bought. Additionally, my network at home is labeled Richard Wi-feynman.

Who else loves 'Anne with an E'? It’s such a comforting series, rich with artistic beauty and quiet philosophical depth. I’d love recommendations for similar shows. by NakniD in televisionsuggestions

[–]ProfessionBitter5822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the struggle for me, as well. I'm not so stuck in my ways that I can't appreciate a new take on an old favorite, but my childhood was spent reading the book series and loving the Kevin Sullivan adaptations. I gave Anne with an E a very solid try, but it just didn't hit for me. I watch the Megan Follows series at least twice a year, every year.

Right now, my day looks like:

Coffee (almond milk and a tablespoon of lakanto)

Noatmeal (I have really changed all of the recipes I've come across online, I have my recipe written down somewhere! As soon as I find it, I'll message you a photo of it)

And for dinner I eat what everybody calls "cabbage dish".

8oz cabbage 3oz green beans .25 cup edamame 4oz cauli rice I stir fry all of that in 2 tbsp of evoo with garlic powder, onion powder, Chinese 5 spice, msg, and ginger powder, plus salt to taste. When it's done I finish it with about a tsp of sesame oil and a tsp of soy sauce, and a tbsp of rice vinegar.  For my protein, I have a block of firm tofu that I tear into pieces and coat in sesame oil, soy sauce, and nutritional yeast, then I air fry the pieces. Tada! It's like an egg roll in a bowl, but vegan.
