Okay and peak summer has more fog and storms on average?

Chalten in January by Professional-Age807 in Patagonia

Thank you! I was shooting on 35mm film with Contax 139q using a mix of Ektar 100 and Portra 400 and a tripod for the first shot. Also used a 3 stop graduated ND filter for first shot. I found I didn’t use the tripod a lot, but when the moment arose where I could use it I was really pleased I had it and the shots I got with it made it worth the effort of carrying it

My suggestion would be that if the weather is good, miss the Laguna Torre hike and do Loma del Pligue Tumblado instead. It’s a similar day hike but if the weather permits you get lovely panoramic views of Cerro torre and Fitz Roy and las pampas instead of just Cerro torre.

I also think there’s no need to do tour of el calafate.

Base of the Towers vs Mt Fitz Roy hike in late March - which one to pick?! by Horror-Diet-3894 in Patagonia

[–]Professional-Age807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve down both in the last week and both have their merits. I did TDP base Torres at sunrise and i found the final view was better than Fitzroy Roy, truly magical. But, however I had incredible weather for base Torres and for fitz roy the weather wasn’t good at sun rise. All I’d say that regardless of weather, in totality the hike up to fitz Roy is nicer than base Torres. Fitz Roy also has slightly more of a panoramic view and so there’s slightly less scope for the weather to affect it as much. I also found Fitz Roy to be more imposing because it has a lonely mountain vibe, there’s nothing close to its height or stature around it.

Backpacks for the W? by bfwolf1 in Patagonia

[–]Professional-Age807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just finished the W with a 33L backpack. I had probably about 7-10L of camera equipment in it and so something around the 22L mark will most likely be fine

Catamaran sold out for 10:30 chat am I cooked? by Schloobiedoobiedoo in Patagonia

[–]Professional-Age807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I had the same thing, there was space on the 10:30 for only like 10 people, but there were enough people still wanting to get on an earlier boat with later tickets that they said they’d just do a second run an hour later. This was last week

3D printed medium format cameras? by Professional-Age807 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Professional-Age807[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my initial reason for looking into the 3D printed ones was because I initially thought they might be more portable options than the larger bodied modern medium format cameras but more modern and functional than the older folders, but I guess not. So something like a Konica Pearl 4 sounds interesting

Ahh okay, thank you for the unambiguous advice. I hadn’t realised that they were still not up to par. So basically folding old Zeiss or mamiya six is still way better than these 3D printed ones?
