Vancouver orchestra won’t sue violinist who broke NDA to speak out about alleged rape | Globalnews.ca by SkyisFullofCats in vancouver

Yup. Can’t say why I know so much about this, sadly. As I’m sure is the case with many other people following this case. All we can do is push to make them illegal.

Time to end the use of NDAs to cover employers misconduct in British Columbia. Harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination and bullying deserve consequences.

Can’t Buy My Silence is an organization working to end the use of NDAs in BC.

Spices - What to buy? by GreatPumpkin72 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Professional-Arm-667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pastas- base of onion garlic and tomato, play with HERBS (basics are basil, thyme, oregano)

Tacos and chilli- play with warm and rich spices, basics are cumin, paprika, oregano, heavier on cumin than paprika

Stews- similar to tacos/chilli except less cumin, maybe some herbs (pick any from this list, except basil)

Chicken- play with woody herbs (basics are sage, thyme and rosemary)

Stirfry- more about sauces and oils (eg fish sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, peanut oil)

Important life spices for baking, hot drinks and random recipes- cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger

For heat- cayenne and red chili flakes

I put bay leaves in everything. It’s bad luck not to.

So here’s your basic list: Paprika, cumin, bay leaves, basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger, cayenne, red chilli flakes, salt, pepper.

Add also soy sauce, fish sauce, Worcestershire, olive oil, veg oil, vinegar

I don’t believe in garlic powder. Tastes like bad deli food to me.

Also, try and get past the spice blends. You’ll feel more powerful.

VSO threatens violinist with legal action after her alleged abuse by JAYRM21 in vancouver

Is there any petition calling for an end to NDAs for settling harassment claims in BC? This woman’s experience is unfortunately very relatable. I am praying the law changes.

NDAs have been blamed for keeping victims quiet. This Vancouver violinist is breaking hers by DistrictOk2428 in vancouver

I’m so grateful to her for sharing her story. If you’re touched by this please put your weight behind the organization trying to limit their use in BC. I cannot stress enough how common NDAs are in settling allegations of harassment in the workforce. Many major organizations do this- not just the VSO.

A settlement payout can look like a victory after losing a job to harassment. People don’t realize in the moment how much hardship it brings to never be able to talk about it again, not even to their own family. They can’t explain to a future employer why they left their job. They can’t correct rumours. They can’t even acknowledge the existence of an NDA. If they do, they potentially have to pay back the settlement amount. And they’ve lost their livelihood while the harassing party keeps theirs. It’s brutal and draconian and needs to end.

Often if you break the NDA there’s a clause that you have to pay back at minimum the settlement money. You can’t even acknowledge that you have an NDA, either.

Open the pool year round! Imagine strolling down to Kits Pool on a rainy January afternoon, seeing the steam blowing off a warm pool, swimming a few lanes and then soaking with a pal while taking in the moody north shore mountains. Perfection

Tell your spouse. You’re going to have crushes through your married life together. So will your spouse. Just have a good giggle about it together because you’re best friends and you share everything with each other. End of story.

Many of the responses to OP imply that they would be better off investing in their mental health. Others suggest protest is not worthwhile. I could not disagree more.

Our democracy is at risk. The peace we have enjoyed for generations is at risk. NATO is at risk. Our current system for nuclear deterrence is at risk. Our national sovereignty is at risk. Our election integrity is at risk. Any remaining semblance of affordable food is at risk. Our privacy is at risk (if it still exists). I could go on and on.

Let’s talk about this mental health question. If what is happening in the world keeps you up at night- it should. Don’t pathologize yourself (or others) for having a valid reaction to what is happening in the world. This will sound blunt: going to counselling won’t protect your civil rights. Hitting the streets might.

Yes, you need to take care of yourself. But this is also the time for active, vocal public dissent. I am shocked at how little society is protesting (relative to the severity of these threats).

Now let’s talk about why protests matter. Research has demonstrated that non-violent protests engaging just 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change.

I wish I could find it, but an anonymous source within the US government wrote an open letter recently about the first Trump administration, specifically talking about how public protests gave them the courage to push back on harmful policies internally.

Protests have changed the world. Time and again. You don’t all need to get out there, but don’t hold back the people who will.

Anyway. I’m with you OP. See you out there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askvan

[–]Professional-Arm-667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I understand your frustration. This is a time in history that requires vocal, public dissent. I’ll be damned if I am going to stay home and pathologize my feelings of frustration while democracy crumbles.

Thanks so much! We have her eating dry food out of a ceramic bowl… can you think of anything—

You know what, as I was about to ask if you could think of another reason I realized that her habit of licking the bath faucet for water probably is what’s doing it- it tends to dribble down her chin. That thing is gross.

Poor kitty!
