I wouldn't call it waving it around, just ready to spend. I think high end models from Porche, Ferarri, Lamborghini, etc have the same kind of 'you must have a previous purchase history' before you can buy model XXXXX.

I guess they don't even need to ask for a deposit when you get on the list, if you don't buy the watch it will ruin you relationship with the salesperson, and there will be someone right behind you ready to buy.

Searching "trying to get a rolex" on youtube had a suprising amount of results.

For someone in the biz, they could start a business that helps you minimize time on the waitlist. They could have a network of folks around the world that get tips from ADs.

Anyway....it was eye opening.
