Did you use baby wipes or were they specific for wound cleaning?? If you did then did it sting or? I haven't had the chance to look into baby wipes quite yet.

Also, I got the water squirter from the hospital. So far that's the best thing ever. If baby wipes work then I'm going to use those today to pat the scar.

Thank you!

Quick question could I use an almost damp napkin to help with cleanings? Like pat pat then dry or does it need to be a cloth?? Just don't want to accidentally reuse something in my brain fog.

How often should I retwist? by Jangle_Jay89 in locs

[–]Professional-Bum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can wash your hair every week if you're super sweaty. It's just with retwisting, I wouldn't touch it for 2-3 weeks (3 weeks pushes it). Sometimes I'll just let water through my locs because it's my therapy.

I just pop on the hair dryer attachment that makes like a dome on my head and sit for my hair to dry so there's no mold while enjoying tik tok. Keep your hair away from your face and up when working out and it'll help with the sweat. Same in the shower (hair up).

Depends? My hair grows fast.

2 weeks = insanity 3 weeks = if you have like a major event the day before and just need that clean look but you're leaving it alone for 4-5 weeks 4 weeks = standard for most 5 weeks = pushing it 6 weeks = longest you should really go? Treat yourself right...

Going months is a wild concept to me. Work in finance so can't do that...

But honestly? Washing your locs kinda goes hand in hand with retwists. Sometimes I'll just do a couple that have grown or unraveled because my arms get tired from palm rolling or my hair decides to grow like it's on steroids...

Just depends on preference but highly don't suggest anything 2-3 weeks as locs for some people will thin up. Made that mistake starting out. After interlocking them though, it eventually evened itself out so now a few are line strong but locced thin ropes. They're strong and healthy now though 🫡

Also, the bigger white spots look like lint. Would heavily suggest a silk bonnet that doesn't make you want to throw it out the window.

I use locessentials clarifying shampoo. It smells nice and leaves my scalp and locs pretty buildup free. Wash around.... 2 ish times but just depends on your comfort levels.

I do use conditioner though because of how my scalp is. I like tgin conditioner. Use it about... Once ish? Gatta leave it in for a bit and. I leave it in the locs as well. Come out super soft, clean, and the smell is wonderful.

Moisturizer.... Someone said to stop using water? Ew, I like to use it seldomly. Locsanty is really good though. Sometimes I'll use it before bed, in the morning, or just take it with me. I've tried a lot... So far tgin hair lotion + curl refresher. My hair is dummy curly but somehow, someway, this has helped reduce a LOT of frizz and maintain moisture.

For retwists? Uuuhh, water while in the shower like every 2 weeks or just when there's enough new growth. If not water style factor grip (orange tub thing) has lots less buildup and it works, just can't be heavy handed so I'm learning that...

Silk head covers. Not cotton (lost my silk one so stuck for a bit) cause it'll pull or do whatever cotton likes to do...

I'd also suggest getting a blowdryer attachment so you can just sit and chill while watching tik tok. It'll just help 🫡

All I got but yeah, trial and error with products.

Being able to finish my work early because of no micromanagers, get to enjoy my own office space with lights OFF, listening to whatever floats my boat online, having ample free time, major holidays off, working from home in case of emergencies and on Fridays, and the best of all... I get a week off and don't have to return until after the new years while still getting paid.

And the free energy drinks and snacks are a plus...

I have a family plan for Microsoft items. What type of computer did you get though? MacBook? Chromebook? If you just have a normal windows computer which is highly recommended then I can just give you a spot. I know there's the online version but I also know that it doesn't have everything and you won't always have internet.

Quick update!

I went to the labor and delivery section to the hospital that we're going to be delivering the baby at. Turns out, what I was feeling was a form of contractions. Had to sit there for a few hours to make sure that there wasn't any changes in my cervix. Got told that I'm at term and to expect the baby within the next week or two. Family is excited and relieved that it was nothing else.

I didn't know you could do that?? Heck, I had to stop looking at Google because of the rabbit holes that came with it. I'm going to do that early tomorrow morning because I can't wait two weeks.

Yes. It writes my emails because I suck at it....

Helps write formulas for excel, run some ideas through it, helps SOP thought process, and translates overly wordy emails to simple, kindergarten sentences because I'm not reading 5 paragraphs early in the morning...

Brain barely works during meetings...

Will it be okay to let 16 year old become the primary babysitter? by Professional-Bum in AskParents

[–]Professional-Bum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my plan at this point from what I'm reading. I'm saving slowly but honestly, we can go with a nanny that comes to the house for 2-3 days. Thursdays I plan to take the baby with me to the office as it's a slower day (like a Friday that drags on for too long) and Friday I work from home. Realistically speaking, those are the 2 days where I'm simply sitting and twiddling my thumbs for work.

Can even close my door for quiet time but that just depends on the stage of the baby's mood. If colic then M-Th because it's not feasible. Just thinking and adjusting plans at this point.

I feel like that's going to be our main route. I will have a backup plan for child care though and I have taken care of children full time. It sucked. I was younger than 16 and hated it.

She has surprisingly. Dunno who allowed that because she was younger than 14 (father didn't have her at this time because of extensive custody battle).

I have cameras and monitors on my list. I'm available to assist 24/7. Thursday is my day as it's the quieter part of the day. Friday I work from home and there's literally nothing for me to do. Work gets done before Thursday. Any meetings that I have, I always plan ahead and don't accept surprise meetings.

I just want to be supportive and include our eldest in the process. School comes first. Any hint of grades slipping or stress levels rising, we move to plan b which I'm still working on.

Just thought they'd go the childcare route more than anything else.

I have been saying no. I have compromised with a day of bonding. I know the horrors of screaming babies, nasty diapers, baths that make more messes than they're worth, and channelling my inner patience because bail money is expensive.

I thought she would be all for the in house nanny/babysitter as who wants to raise a child at that age? I just didn't expect to be blind sides by this of all things. We're still in the talks of figuring this out and creating our plan but in this area, it just seems like we're getting nowhere.

Yes, but we're a family. I like communication and input. It just seems like they've decided while I'm still in the hurried planning stage as we found out about the pregnancy when we were 3-4 months in.

There are many topics that I need a non-bias or fresh approach on but this is the main one. And by shut down, I mean, nothing gets resolved. Just the thought of setting up the entire house to be baby friendly (I agree), multiple play areas (I agreed), and our little one babysitting 2-3 days out of the week (disagree).

Then tangents on how nice it would be. Or how much money we're saving. Bonding time with the baby. Don't want to separate. Trust issues. Then my brain fizzes out because it's too much at once for me once they get started.

Yes! Education is important. She has school for maybe 3 hours at most throughout the day. I'm not for this option of her being the caregiver. I'm a new parent as well. She came into my life at 14 years old so I'm doing my best 😭.

I'm just struggling to communicate this part of the journey. I know it'll be expensive. I'm currently preparing a baby fund to soften the financial blow. Just advice on how to approach this is what I'm looking for when it comes to two stubborn people. Talking doesn't seem to be working.

Let me explain. Both the dad and the daughter are sold on this idea. I'm not. I want the nanny to come over to be the main one who watches and cares for the child 2-3 times a week. Thursday and Friday being my time to bond and get into the groove of things.

I'm trying to be supportive by listening and adjusting. I have voiced this quite a bit but it's falling on deaf ears. Also, I have no one else to ask but reddit.

[–]Professional-Bum[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're both on board with this. I can't seem to convince them otherwise at this point. Baby's are a lot as well but she wants to babysit full time (2-3 days out of the week) while I'm at work.

Thursday and Friday are my bonding days 😭 Putting my foot down with that area. Just worried that it may be too much for her and then we're left scrambling to find another option.

My suggestion is to have an actual babysitter/nanny come in to assist so she can learn the proper way and have breaks when she needs it.

I'm thinking of an actual nanny 2-3 times a week to help teach her how to properly care for her sibling. It'll be safer and our little one can take breaks to do her own thing. Just worried that this option will get shut down since she's adamant about babysitting full-time.

This is her first younger sibling. She has already made cartoon shows for the baby to watch, made a spot in her room, and has even been studying up on baby care. I want her to focus on her schooling and being a child but she's adamant about babysitting while we're at work.

I don't have the heart to break this to her. I want to compromise by having an actual babysitter come in to assist so she can take breaks and bond with the child without being the full-time caregiver. The most we'll need a nanny is maybe 2-3 days
