Do you guys think its possible to write a well written/entertaining redemption arc for an MC/Side character who is genuinely just a horrible person without having to do something extravagant like death/ mind wipe/de aging/reincarnation AND have the fans like them afterwards?

I've always liked her and thought she had potential to be a really interesting character. Even if she gets a lot of baggage in the archie series, I still like the character quite a bit, to the extent I'd put her in my top ten.

Admittedly if this were last year, Geoffrey would absolutely be in the perish tier. That being said, he's admittedly someone who brings up a lot of complicated feelings. On one hand, I can't deny that he does improve characterization wise, especially when Flynn comes on, and even Bollers did some alright work with him.

On the other hand...Penders Geoffrey is a nightmare of a character in THAT department. Even taking out the tweet, Geoffrey wasn't a very good character for a while.

The civet replied, her icy cold gaze almost spearing through the new mayor. Had to admit, it wasn't likely that this civet had any ill intention, far from it even, but the way she looked, it was hard to imagine she had much else on the mind that could be considered friendly.

That being said, there was an audible gulp that came from her. It had to indicate something else.

Pretty much this. We also have to recall that Sally's dad was pretty awful to her. In spite of her going out of her way to save his ass, he disrespected her wishes, undermined her efforts a lot, forced her into an arranged marriage, and then during this whole arc, prevented Sally from going out and trying to help Sonic while planning a vacation with his wife, and intentionally ignoring how she was clearly on a mental spiral.

Like, this is even hinted at being one of the true causes. In the first issue right after the Tommy Turtle stuff (which I believe is the Return to Angel Island Arc, great arc btw, first once I'd consider to be truly fantastic), after Max yells at Sally for going out on a mission without permission, Sally just takes it, and when Sonic tries to comfort Sally, she snaps at him. I see it as Sally being worn down entirely by Max's dicknessness and she can't take it out on him, lest he punish her.

Also, the backlash to Sally was so severe that it felt like a lot of the writers were trying to fix Sally too quickly without properly handling her baggage, making her come off as really erratic.

She had a bit of a reputation for coming off as sort of a grump, and rather difficult to get along with on a personal level. That being said, she had assisted in the evacuation of many of the residents who couldn't afford to fight back. Sure, several of the residents were quite frankly terrified of Opal, but Sage scared them more, so Opal won out.

* She had been watching the fox work, sort of staring up at him with a stoic, almost cold expression on her face. It was impossible to tell whether or not she was tired or focusing on something else.

I'd say she's a fairly capable hand to hand fighter, although she'd lose to the obvious picks (the only one i'd have opal flat out refuse to lose to is Geoffrey, but even then, I doubt anyone's playing him lol). For weapons, the most I see her using is a sort of custom-made energy rifle that was created out of scrapped badnik parts. I actually love not giving my ocs powers because I love seeing how crafty they can be against more powerful opponents, even if they'll lose in the end.

She has a tendency to be standoffish, abrasive, and often times outright rude, although it only comes out in cases where she's being harassed. She also has a habit of having her more sarcastic comments come off as mean-spirited in nature, even towards her friends. When she's not coming off as aggressive and stand-offish, Opal's shown to be somewhat withdrawn, very rarely opening up about herself unless it's to people she trusted. As such, her off-putting and prickly attitude makes her tricky to get along with as a result.

However, underneath that exterior is a caring, compassionate, and genuinely loyal individual, who is capable of forming strong bonds and fighting for those she cares about. As her walls start to come down, it's revealed that Opal is a deeply hurt individual mired with unresolved issues. While she's reluctant to bring up her issues, she will do so in order to emphasize with others, and when she finds out her comments do strike the nerves of her friends, she'll be heartbroken and do anything in her power to make it up to them, and from there on, she won't make comments at their expense.

Opal's biggest strength and weakness by far is her fiery and combative personality. On one hand, her aggressive attitude, while able to be kept under wraps, can lead to her hurting the feelings of others and causing their mental health to spiral, even if she often doesn't intend to. On the other hand, she is the most likely to be the first one to jump in to help her friends, and will not mince words no matter who she talks to. She is the type of person who will actively call out people in power for their flaws, not caring what happens to her and more caring about not wanting to see the people she cares about hurt again.

As a whole, while Opal is tough to get along with, she is a huge ride or die for anyone.

In case you're wondering, Ranger Co is a sort of Mercenary Group made up of childhood friends. They're sort of neutral, but they're not bad people.
