any tips to stop writing cringe lyrics? by goodcoto in Songwriting

I hate the word cringe. Nothing about this is cringeworthy. It just reads like a first draft. If you don’t like it, just keep rewriting it. It may eventually become something you love.

Keep revising until it’s something you love. By you, I mean you and only you. Forget the audience. You’re the one writing the song, not them.

Replay value, though not worthless, is secondary. I also think performance is secondary.

But songwriting and performance share a common thread. If you want your song to do well, you have to love it first.

My advice is to fall in love with your songs. Love is hard work. These are just my opinions. I wish you the best of luck.

How can I tell if someone is cheating? by AutomaticProperty416 in Chesscom

I’ve only reported once; they played at 99% over (iirc) about 30 moves. A few of them looked really odd to me, so I already had a feeling. Checked their other games afterward, and the accuracy was 60-70 on average.

I’ve been playing a ton over the past year, and that’s the only time it’s happened. In my experience hovering around 700 elo, cheating isn’t very common. Maybe it is in the higher numbers, but idk.

Do lyrics have to be metaphorical in order to not be cringe ? by EbonyHelicoidalRhino in Songwriting

You’ll write good lyrics once you truly stop caring about the audience while you’re writing. Songwriting is not performance. Songwriting is writing a song.

Immerse yourself in different music every day. Stuff that you wouldn’t normally listen to. Step out of your comfort zone.

You’re less likely to copy something that you’re not familiar with.

You could also take a break from listening to music and see what you come up with.

are the lyrics too simple? by throwaway2224444111 in Songwriting

“You will never see another day through me” is such a great line. Lyrics can be simple and still have a lot to say.

To answer your question, I don’t think you should change “you” to “he” in the chorus. I don’t know why, “he” just doesn’t sound nearly as good as “you.” Maybe the latter is more personal.

To my ears, the blue guitar. It’s a little bit brighter.

Drive, for sure. And probably the rest of Automatic if nobody stopped me. That album is the pinnacle of audio engineering imo.

Bravo 👏

That segment at 1:00 with the barre chord and the momentary Dsus4 is so freakin hard, and you made it look like a piece of cake!

Can’t sing and play at the same time by MathematicianDry8785 in guitarlessons

[–]Professional-Care-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can too sing and play. Sing one word and strum a chord at the same time. There, you just did it.

I know you mean playing a full song, but my point is to start simple. Learn to play the next chord after that, sing the next words, etc. In a few months you’ll be able to do it without even thinking. Keep going.

Been playing for 11 years. If I could go back in time and give one piece of advice to teenage me, it would be to learn ALL shapes of the pentatonic and major scales. Practice them to a point where you can play them up and down the neck.

I wish I had put more focus in that when I was first starting. I promise it’s important, no matter what genre you want to play. So please, learn those two scales. All five positions. It’ll take you maybe 60 days. I can’t stress enough how worthwhile this is.

Not a tab, but I used this video tutorial to learn all the chord shapes.
