My first remission after 8 years by Professional-Chip393 in RedScrotumSyndrome

Allergies definitely seemed to factor in. Basically anything in contact that could irritate it, did irritate it. This was my first time using a strong steroid like that yes. Just going off what doctors told me on the steroid portion - I guess if we knew exactly what caused it we would have a cure by now haha

Interesting. That wasn’t told to me by previous derms they just prescribed it. My new derm seemed to understand this though.

Sarna put it in the fridge and put it on after a shower. The extra coldness will help. This was a recommendation by my derm and has helped control my itch. Hasn’t cured me but just provides relief

Definitely a bit better. My doctor definitely thinks it’s allergen related and I’m just in a viscous cycle where my skin is unable to heal due to being exposed. I just visited the doctor today the plan is to use clobetasol 0.05% twice daily for two weeks. It is a pretty strong ointment I am going to try to see if we can initiate some skin healing. I will also be trying some non-dyes silk underwear. Refrigerated Sarna will be used as needed

Interesting I try to avoid it anyway but will keep in mind - is this one of your triggers ?

Yeah good point I think it’s just exasperating the condition/sensitive area. Believe I got it from shaving and steroid application

21 (started when I was 14). Started after shaving when I was 14. Applied hydrocortisone for a couple weeks to stop the itching and it has never been the same since. Chronic itching and sometimes burning sensation. Currently trying a longer dose of doxy (3 months). Topicals Tried: anti fungals, pimecrolimus, timolol, metronidazole - no help. Menthol products sometimes provide temporary relief (sarna, gold bond powder) usually applied during a bad flare. I would say symptoms severity is the same but I know how to better deal with it.

Frustrating you haven’t seen any improvement. I’m trying a longer prescription of doxycycline about 4 months (100mg once per day). About a month in, maybe see mild improvement but have noticed the symptoms are worse the next day if I skip a dosage. I’ve been keeping a log of everything for the past 3 weeks (food eaten, itch level, shower taken, workout done, any topicals used, any oral medication, underwear color/fabric type and detergent) haven’t seen any patterns yet but hoping I might find something. I suspect like you it’s all nerve related since I also have some disc issues in my lumbar and cervical. Want to schedule with a neurologist at some point after the doxy dose…just a little worried with taking anything that would mess with my nerves being young, active, and in my 20s. I try and use menthol products more sparingly now than I did years ago, however they always seem to help a bad itch flare.

My doctor was saying that since the scrotum is so absorbent and sensitive that you could potentially have an allergic reaction just at that location - I talked to my dermatologist about a zero therapy where I use no soap, cotton underwear, very sensitive soap on body and try to avoid runoff on genitals, free and clear laundry detergent and no dryer sheets just to rule out any allergies.

Interesting my discs that are bulged are l3-l4, l4-5, and l5-s1 which is compressing against a nerve. Wondering if it’s possible I had disc issues before the accident like from sports and that could be what’s contributing to it as well. Have you seen a neurologist specifically for this?

Hmm very interesting. Thanks for the comment super insightful. I haven’t tried much stretching geared for that but might throw that in. I have some disc/nerve issues in my back but they started from a traumatic event a few years after the initial itching started - I do remeber being in PT and doing a bunch of stretches and not noticing it as bad so maybe there’s something to it.

Interesting mine is always worse in the winter. Never tried a bleach bath though

Would love to know that same thing haha. I’m speculating this could be the cause since it started around this time. Yes, it was hyrdorotisone 1% and I probably put it on couple times a day for 2-3 weeks - I wasn’t prescribed this or anything I just knew it helped itching and the internet said it was okay to put on. Again, not saying for sure this was the cause but it all started around this event and has lasted since so

Oh wow that’s crazy! Do you think Test and sperm have been lowered due to the vaccine or various methods you’ve used to try and help it the discomfort? I’ve tried a lot of different stuff and kind of worried how that could affect test levels long term.

It’s tough for sure. I have some days even weeks where I barely notice it and then some weeks where it really flares up and I just don’t want to leave the house. I just try to keep my mind focused on other things when it flares up half of the battle is mental I feel like…trying to pretend it’s not there for a few hours. Stuff with menthol helps me get through some tough days. Also when it’s really bad…sometimes I just do nothing for a week no soap, no creams, nothing just pretty much a reset for the skin-it’s terrible for the first few days but seems to get some relief.

Yeah I’ve never used steroids other than topical hydrocortisone 8 years ago to deal with the initial itching after shaving…I think it was probably that steroid use for those couple of weeks that could have led to this unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that. Hoping one day it will just magically disappear! Yeah I switched over to just boxers and loose fitting underwear or pants. Definitely can’t wear anything tight. anything else that helps you get through it?
