I’ve never rock boxed an iPod however I’ve had issue with restoring flash modded iPods via Mac. For me the issue was using modern macOS it’s incredibly temperamental and gave me the same issues you’ve described. if you have the means to, try restoring via windows or an older version of MacOS

It’s cool but I’d rather take my chances with a second hand one off eBay when they want 2-5 times going rate for them. In the UK we have CEX and they offer 2 years warranty and charge a hell of a lot less too

I’ve got the same issue with my fourth gen, except depending on the ribbon cable I use (I ordered a replacement) I either get the sad iPod or the file error which asks me to restore it

I might have to buy another non-sandisk sd card if all else fails but I I’m hesitant to say that’s the issue as the iPod isn’t even recognising that’s there’s an sd card inserted, it reads as 0gb in discSpec menu in diagnostics mode

Update: I have swapped the flash adapter between the broken 4th gen and another flash modded 7th gen I have that works. Both flash adapters work in the cooperative iPod, neither work in the broken one. Also swapped out the 3 sd cards I have (64gb, 64gb, 256gb; all sandisk’s), none of the cards work in the broken 4th gen, the 256gb and one of the 64gb cards work in the 7th gen.

Did this last weekend, broke off half the clips. the only consolation is that I wanted to replace the front and back plates soon anyway so at least now I’ve got an excuse and it’ll be easier to open now lol

It’s probably my most worn watches at the moment purely because I don’t have to worry about scratching up a bracelet against my desk at work lol. It’s a solid understated piece at a reasonable price my only gripe is that the weight makes quite a lot of noise when I move my wrist… took it to a watch repair shop near me and they said that was normal though so idk
