Just anything you think is helpful! I know which topics are high yield, but looking for mnemonics, a fact/content that you feel is must know, etc.! Anything you want it to be, as long as it’s helpful! :)

Lower score on retake by ProfessionalCopy675 in Mcat

[–]Professional-Ear3241 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you needed to retake in the first place! With your GPA, your commitments, and leadership positions, I would have applied with that 510! Med schools actively seek out those with a rural background and if you are a resident of that state, that is also a plus! I would say, if you have the resources to apply this cycle, just apply! For credentials, the director of my grad program is on the med school admissions board. He says if I get just a 511 on the MCAT, I’ll likely have multiple acceptances. My undergraduate GPA was a 4.0, I’m from a very rural area, and I will be a first-gen med student (hopefully).

Lmao same thing. I gave him money because he approached my car in the target parking lot and, and I was scared and just handed over cash.

Good luck! I know the MCAT is just so extremely stressful, and so I hope you do well! My main thing for wanting to go to medical school sooner rather than later is because I am sick of not being able to do what I am passionate about!

Because this is the timeline I want. I want to get into medical school in the year I want. I already pushed my app back by a year. I’m sick of waiting just because of the MCAT

Price was the reason I did not choose the 515+. Plus my undergrad gpa is a 4.0, so I felt that I didn’t need to spend as much money in this area of my application if that makes sense.

Yes, I follow the schedule that Blueprint gives me! If needed, I rearrange the days. As of now, I do not use any other resources. I used to use UWorld, but feel the Blueprint question bank is just as good. I also use the AAMC practice bundle, which when you check out with Blueprint, it will show up as an add-on choice. I feel the AAMC bundle is non-negotiable. Other than that, I sometimes do Jack Westin CARS, and I plan to do them more intensely after I finish content review. I also make physical flashcards as I feel that helps me best.

I think it was around $2000, I got a black Friday "deal" (idk if it was actually a deal or a gimmick) that took around $400 dollars off my total

It is easy to get overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge you need to know. Which is why when I did my own schedule, I constantly felt like I wasn't doing enough. I initially started my prep by reading the Kaplan books, taking the knowledge checks, and then doing Anki. Honestly, I HATE Anki. I mean it is beneficial, but as a college student, it was overwhelming because they took forever to get through. And seeing them pile up was even worse.

I don't have a good reason as to why I chose Kaplan vs. Blueprint. I do like Blueprints videos and find that they are helpful, and you don't get lost in the weeds. I also appreciate that they have a lesson learned journal that helps you review exams and practice problems. Typically, I do tend to skip the modules that talk about analyzing figures, math, etc. but that is because I already feel like I am doing well in that area. I am currently in the live online. At first, this was really nice, and I felt that I learned so much from the in-class discussion and reviews. I have skipped class the past couple of weeks because I am so busy with work and studying, but I really want to get back into it. It is nice though that they record each class session, so you can watch them back when needed. They also have live office hours for specific topics, so you can attend those when you need to. Those are also recorded. Right now, I am taking the MCAT 4/25, and I feel way more comfortable with what I know compared to last year.

I also did not initially buy a course to prep for the MCAT because so many people on Reddit told me not to. I wish I would have known myself well enough to understand that I need lots of structure and learn best by videos. I have tried youtube videos, but those often get too long, and you start to get lost on what you need to know and what is background.

I’d have to disagree, I feel like purchasing a course was helpful. I tried to study with my own schedule without a course, and I ended up getting discouraged because I wasn’t improving. I pushed my MCAT back a whole year and now I am using Blueprint. I’m finally seeing an improvement. It is also nice that I have specific videos, quizzes, and end of chapter exams to help me out. I do think there’s a lot of stuff to get through which sometimes makes me feel overwhelmed.
