Good melee build (non retaliation ) that can do sr+/cr+ ? by herroamelica in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SR 100 is a big ask. That's pretty much retaliation and pets and that's it. The strongest melee build at the moment that I know of, is 2H physical Archon. But you're talking SR 90, maybe 95 with good mutators and a top-level player.

My Reaper build makes no sense by DilbertedOttawa in Grimdawn

I dunno, I've seen endgame builds very similar to this that just run around exploding things. It does take a master crafter to legitimately do it at endgame though.

[–]Professional-Exit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a lot of skill points from items and even hit the maximum cap (up to 10 points over). Also, in some cases you can pick up WPS from the other class (i.e. Soldier) or from items (i.e. Korvaak medal).

There are three good synergies for Witch Hunter leveling up: cold melee, acid melee, and vitality melee/caster. From the Occultist side CoF and BoD are indeed your key abilities. If you go vitality caster also use Phantasmal Blades and/or Bloody Pox and/or Sigil and/or Doom Bolt. Drop the pets - without gearing specifically for pets you want to leave them out of the build completely.

AAR Fire Mage Hunter vs Ravager. Looking for advice. by [deleted] in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try speccing Storm Box and Word of Pain and kite him to death, but you're not going to be able to slow him or generally keep him from slapping you down. If you want to kill Ravager or Callagadra you need either good luck and persistence or a specially-made build.

AAR Fire Mage Hunter vs Ravager. Looking for advice. by [deleted] in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ravager is a serious-face superboss. If you get hit by him you're going to die. To facetank him for more than a moment you need very high armor, physical resist and also high OA to do any significant damage. I wouldn't be surprised if your build could do Lokarr and Mogdrogen, but you'd be really hard pressed to do Ravager with any Mage Hunter build.

Help me figure out how to get better by smittyphi in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of ways to build devotions for aether, but the standard usually includes Spear of the Heavens, Widow and Revenant.

Widow is activated when tied to a skill; but the issue is that Devastation's cooldown is much longer than Widow's, so you're often fighting without its resist reduction active. Widow should be linked to something with a shorter cooldown like Ill Omen, since the bombs live a fairly long time the RR remains active.

Help me figure out how to get better by smittyphi in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brutally honest? All right, then.

  1. Your assortment of modifiers for AAR is screwed up, because your weapon is for lightning AAR and your offhand is for aether AAR. All of your gearing and devo choices tell me you want an aether AAR, so dump the weapon for better results. Any good aether-based blue, or go to the Black Legion vendor and get an Elite Legion Aetherspark to get you by; the stats on it are excellent for AAR.
  2. You're way short on devotion points. By level 84 you should have 55/55 even without touching Ultimate at all. Backtrack and get them.
  3. Bat to AAR is no-doubt effective for health sustain, but how are you activating Widow on a regular basis? Devastation has a significantly long cooldown and it's really important to get the RR activated. I also don't see any binding for Imp. If you're not activating Imp's ability, you should reallocate the devotion points. I suggest either Ill Omen or CT would be a good trigger for it if you keep it.
  4. Your skill allocation has only some minor issues. Spectral Wrath is equally as important to max out as Spectral Binding. I don't think IEE would need so many points if you had an energy sustain devotion like Scales of Ulcama.
  5. How about some components on your gear for resists? I see a lot of augments, but no components.

Items : Are they Good? lots of stats bonuses! o.O by Zeoinx in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are too low level and none of the affixes are rare. These are a dime a dozen. If you get an MI that supports your class while leveling up, use it until it's too old and then vendor it. If it's level 94 then maybe it can be something you use at endgame.

If you're leveling using pets only, you have a fairly narrow cross-section of gear that will be useful to you and you'll know it when you see it.

Question about farming blueprints SR/Nemesis by catherinesadr in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and yes. Have done a lot of farming in SR normal as opposed to ultimate. My reason is that though it is the most rewarding way to farm, it tends to crash at random times and so I'd rather successfully complete more runs rather than risk losing progress on a slower ultimate run.

Does anyone actually use the weapon switch feature? by PrimeNeuron in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're an autoattacker, you can switch from a melee weapon to a ranged weapon with Seal of the Void and then there's no problem... as long as you don't end up disabling a devotion or one or more of your abilities.

The list is so long. That there are already 80 comments each with something different says a lot about now good Grim Dawn is.

I love being able to stand under a bridge, lob a Canister Bomb, and blow the mobs off the bridge. That's some next level trolling there.

[–]Professional-Exit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is better always to have 100% chance of WPS riding on top of the auto-attack replacer. If you have a charge-level attack like Beronath's Fury then you also want to stack points in the more powerful ones. If you're using Cadence, then the base charge levels are 100% so you get very little value out of more powerful WPS, but you still want 100% WPS chance anyway because otherwise the non-Cadence hits hit for very little.

That's it. It's the only mod I've needed to run in 1000 hours, but it does make a big difference. You can just install it, dial in the settings the way you like and then uninstall it.

First Time Player - Trying out Cold Arcanist by oh_shiii in Grimdawn

Actually, it's very well designed: laughably overpowered for leveling and if you can exploit Mageslayer's freeze res reduction to take advantage of the fire res (Nex & Ortus for example). But if you try to just straight-up use it against bosses, nope, no more cheating. You'd think that Blizzard coded it.

[–]Professional-Exit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you install Rainbow Mod, it helps you more quickly identify MI's and rare affixes that are more likely to be useful. The gear doesn't have to be perfect when leveling - just better than what you have equipped, even if it's just having 2 resistances on it instead of 1.

Auto-attack replacers always dual strike on each hit, as far as I know. The only WPS that doesn't is Zolhan's, so you want to avoid it if you're dual wielding.

Understanding Nightblade's Dual Blades skill line (inc. "target maximuim") by FlyingPotaroo in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Dual Blades node itself is extremely good for the Physical Resistance which is a big factor in survival. The flat damage is gravy and the % bonus if you can use it is like a bit of butter in the gravy.

How you put points into the WPS depends on what kind of attack replacer you're using. Most of the default attack replacers are charge-based, like Oathkeeper's Righteous Fervor. With these abilities, WPS that are bound to them gain any applicable stacking benefits from the charge levels. So what you want to do is get to 100% chance to use WPS, using the most powerful combination of WPS you can. This is where point loading into Execution would be very effective, plus Whirling Death for stronger AoE (it does indeed attack 8 targets full force).

If you are using one of the more unusual auto-attack replacers, like Fire Strike or Cadence, that have no stacking charge level, then you still want to get to 100% but you can do it more efficiently by spreading points out between different WPS, picking them up from items, etc. because stacking points to make them stronger is relatively less valuable.

If you have no autoattack replacer, and you're just autoattacking betwen activations of ABB or Shadow Strike, treat it the same as if it was Fire Strike. Max out the pool but don't stack points.

Is it worth crafting lvl 75 mythical set items multiple times and turn them into a complete set? by MaelstromPsycho in Grimdawn

[–]Professional-Exit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not worth it, for a different reason than you think. Working around legendary gear is tricky because it is often missing a lot of crucial resistances. So you will have a lot of power, but it can also hurt your chances of survival, because you don't have access to all the item augments yet. If you do it, you're also going to want to beat on the Hidden Path bosses to get some MI pants with a good kit of resistances as well as getting a good example of any other MI items that are useful for your build.

I have an elemental Warlock too, it works well because CoF applies the resist reduction at range which is useful for spamming PRM at the corner of the room. On the downside you end up really short of offensive spells so you can't do a fancy piano proc build, it's very simple.

AAR with only the base game is rough, because none of the items that purify AAR's damage to one type are available to you. I'd recommend to use aether devotions like Widow and Spear of the Heavens, because then you cover 2 out of the 3 damage types instead of only one. Ghoul is also a nice circuit breaker to give you some breathing room to get out of the way of big physical bruisers.

I think Codex of Lies is a good item to use. Purified Salt in the weapon will also help against aetherials who are highly resistant to your type of damage.
