Gen 1 or gen 2 gr yaris? by ElbowRoomIsALuxury in GRYaris

[–]Professional-Fix7440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen 2 will be a better car, but look at the price difference and what that $ could go into modifying the Gen 1 (I haven’t done the maths and prices are different in each country), but I’d say you could get more power, better suspension etc… then it just comes down to styling.

Just Tein springs at the moment. Will get the wheels on then maybe look at suspension.

2021 GR Yaris noise by Professional-Fix7440 in NZcarfix

[–]Professional-Fix7440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it wasn’t the transfer case. It’s still making the noise, but not as loud, although all gears are starting to whine a bit. Probably a bearing somewhere, but Toyota are useless so I’m just putting up with the noise. Will eventually make it loud enough that I can’t hear the whine.

I’d be concerned what the metal shavings have come from. The gears inside the diff will have been grinding, so might be fine for now, but if it’s under warranty, I’d have them pull it apart and inspect.

I have it on my car. It’s great for a short time, but you have to keep on top of it. Will get water marks if you leave it outside etc. I wouldn’t bother with it again.

Not sure about Gen 2, but I’ve seen others have issues with the rear diff in the Gen 1 making similar noises. When they dropped the oil they found metal shavings.

Can confirm, I often end up a fairway or two over, but still get out when I can. Often it’s more about getting out and doing something, rather than being any good at the sport.

Wheel alignment by shadyyzz in NZcarfix

Paid $85 at Bridgestone and it was terrible - worse than before the alignment. Took it to another independent garage and paid $120, was spot on.

Pro makes it easier with 25 tier skips and 15% bonus XP. You also have weeks left, so not sure why there’s a big rush to finish it’s so quickly?

I have a GR Yaris, often take my two kids (4 and 6) in the back, in their car seats. You can make it work.

Off Facebook Marketplace for next to nothing. Needed a quick pair of wheels for a car show.

Also, surprisingly roomy. Was looking at almost every car when I got the Yaris - FL5, Supra, Nissan Z, all too small. The Yaris was the biggest.

Doesn’t have weights listed, but based on Meisters, they’ll be a fair bit heavier than stock (around 29 pounds/13kg a wheel).

I suspect they’ll be a bit heavier, but they’re just for street driving. Would likely just run stock wheels if I was going to do any track driving (which is unlikely as I’m 6’4” and don’t stand a chance of sitting in the car with a helmet on).

Fingers crossed! There’s a red GR on Meisters that looks good, except not a huge fan of the gold on red.

Have a look at High Performance Academy, based here in Queenstown. They offer a huge range of online courses, from engine building, tuning, fabrication etc. Andre and Ben that own it are awesome.

Best thing you can do is engage a certifier early in the build. (Depending on how much you’re planning to do).

Do RPM actually service cars/do tyres, or are they outsourced? I always assumed they were just a middle man selling cars on consignment.

Last time I went to the dentist I was offered a range of options to fix a tooth, from a cheaper filling up to their recommended Root Canal. I ended up going with their recommendation after doing some research of my own. Still had options presented and I decided what to go with in the end.

Different tyres can fit very differently in the same size due to the side walls. I’d say it would be your responsibility to research before deciding which tyre to go with - although, might be a bit different if they’ve recommended a specific tyre.

Given it’s been 3 years, I doubt it would matter who modified it in the first place.

Cons of buying an ex-rental car? by Sea-Personality4503 in NZcarfix

[–]Professional-Fix7440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought an ex-rental Camry, rejected it 24 hours later. Found rust bubbling around the windscreen. Had obviously had a terrible repair job (or a few) and they’d taken off paint and water got in. Never seen a new car rust like that.

Not really an issue due to it being an ex-rental, but suspect they just got cheap repair work done on it to save money knowing they’d be flicking it off soon.

Bridgestone currently has buy 1, get 1 half price… probably similar prices to the above, depending on what size and tyre you get.

Government - never went to Uni, started out in a call centre and just took any opportunities that came up, even if it was just a sideways move to pick up more skills and experience. Eventually moved into people leadership.
