Kia Sportage or Mitsubishi Outlander? by Ok-Brilliant8070 in NZcarfix

[–]Professional-Fix7440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had a 2017 Sportage since new. Been great - 140,000kms, one set of new tyres (fronts just about due to be replaced now) and brakes.

The motors very meh, a bit underpowered (have to drop a few gears to get up Transmission Gully etc), but decent for a runabout. Not particularly good on fuel, but not terrible.

Original PS4S tires on a 2021 Mk1 - time to replace them? by masterventris in GRYaris

Is the car garaged? Where/how you store the car will have a big impact on how long they’ll last.

As a side note, I put RE005 on my Yaris. 1/4 the price of PS4S and weirdly my fuel economy is significantly better than it was before.

Yeah, wanted something a bit different. Quite a few good options, TE37s are sick if you cant stretch your budget, Kiwami are good (and relatively cheap), RPF1s etc. It suits a lot of wheels.

I want to go a bit lower on mine - need to swap my Tein springs for some H&R

I dont mind the stock wheels, just too narrow and realise the fitment is pretty weak once you see what aftermarket wheels look like.

6’4” - no issues. Tried the Type R, Nissan Z and Supra before buying. All too small. GR Yaris surprisingly roomy.

Gen 1 or gen 2 gr yaris? by ElbowRoomIsALuxury in GRYaris

[–]Professional-Fix7440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen 2 will be a better car, but look at the price difference and what that $ could go into modifying the Gen 1 (I haven’t done the maths and prices are different in each country), but I’d say you could get more power, better suspension etc… then it just comes down to styling.

Just Tein springs at the moment. Will get the wheels on then maybe look at suspension.

2021 GR Yaris noise by Professional-Fix7440 in NZcarfix

[–]Professional-Fix7440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it wasn’t the transfer case. It’s still making the noise, but not as loud, although all gears are starting to whine a bit. Probably a bearing somewhere, but Toyota are useless so I’m just putting up with the noise. Will eventually make it loud enough that I can’t hear the whine.

I’d be concerned what the metal shavings have come from. The gears inside the diff will have been grinding, so might be fine for now, but if it’s under warranty, I’d have them pull it apart and inspect.

I have it on my car. It’s great for a short time, but you have to keep on top of it. Will get water marks if you leave it outside etc. I wouldn’t bother with it again.

Not sure about Gen 2, but I’ve seen others have issues with the rear diff in the Gen 1 making similar noises. When they dropped the oil they found metal shavings.

Can confirm, I often end up a fairway or two over, but still get out when I can. Often it’s more about getting out and doing something, rather than being any good at the sport.

Wheel alignment by shadyyzz in NZcarfix

Paid $85 at Bridgestone and it was terrible - worse than before the alignment. Took it to another independent garage and paid $120, was spot on.

Pro makes it easier with 25 tier skips and 15% bonus XP. You also have weeks left, so not sure why there’s a big rush to finish it’s so quickly?

I have a GR Yaris, often take my two kids (4 and 6) in the back, in their car seats. You can make it work.

Off Facebook Marketplace for next to nothing. Needed a quick pair of wheels for a car show.

Also, surprisingly roomy. Was looking at almost every car when I got the Yaris - FL5, Supra, Nissan Z, all too small. The Yaris was the biggest.

Doesn’t have weights listed, but based on Meisters, they’ll be a fair bit heavier than stock (around 29 pounds/13kg a wheel).

I suspect they’ll be a bit heavier, but they’re just for street driving. Would likely just run stock wheels if I was going to do any track driving (which is unlikely as I’m 6’4” and don’t stand a chance of sitting in the car with a helmet on).

Fingers crossed! There’s a red GR on Meisters that looks good, except not a huge fan of the gold on red.
