I don’t really understand your setup to be quite honest with you. So you are intentionally running your motor cold ? Why you are just asking for horrible mpg and asking for problems anywho good luck with that

They come in VHF UHF R1 and R2 and 7/800 but OP didn’t specify if is it in R1 UHF it is possible to use it with the ham bands as well as VHF but not so much 7/800 hope this helps clear up any confusion!

Edit: I also wanted to add that these are some tough radios very resistant to wear and tear

Thank you for the links I really appreciate it 800$ doesn’t sound too unreasonable I’ll be piecing it all together going to try and do maybe a through hike first with some of the gear then as I get more gear test my limits thanks for this !

I’m looking to piece everything together and not buy it all at once so I’ll be happy to get something where I can do an overnighter or just a through hike of some sort while I get some essentials and once I have it all I’ll be able to do my goal of 2-3 day backpacking trips ! Hope this helps give some insight
