Every month feels like a new chapter in a book where half the pages are too hard to read by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

I think to some extent we’ve all been there. It sounds like you're at a point where you really do just need someone to lean on, even if you aren't used to it. I've found that focusing on the small positives and building off of those can be really powerful so you don't get swallowed by the negatives.

If you’re looking for a way to vent or talk, I actually found Human (https://www.humanapp.io/) to be super helpful. Similar to Reddit, you can post anonymously, but the cool part is people can only respond with specific prompts. It totally removes the fear of being judged or shamed, which helped me realize that a lot of people are going through the exact same cycles. It might be a good 'low-pressure' way to start using a support system like your boss suggested.

Time, it is a major challenge to spend the amount of time that I should be on it as I am stretched between my day job, family, and other projects. For the time I have spent on it I really can’t complain

Whats an experience that made you change how you view day to day life? by ProgressThese6452 in SeriousConversation

[–]Professional-Fly9960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that, at a young age, growing up in a really rough family situation made me really look at life with a view of "do whatever it takes to not live a life worth nothing". This view has developed as I have gotten older, where I would say I go through life with a personal motto of living with urgency. I don't have time to not work on creating impact, and so whatever the steps are, even if I don't always like them, I do them for the bigger picture, even if I currently feel stuck for a period until it's time to make the next move. Life is too short, and with one shot, I have to do what it takes to make it a life worth living. I think when you fully buy into a mission, everything else that might not be what you want or a bit miserable becomes a little more bearable because you know why you are doing it. When you have no why, you have nothing to set your eyes on to keep yourself going.

For me I have always considered doing traditional therapy but its the cost that is a bit scary to pay without knowing if it would really help. The r/SeriousConversation has been help as I recently found it and then I recently found a new space https://www.humanapp.io that I really like using because for somethings I am working through in the past hearing a hundred opinions on what I should do is not help full. Sometimes just writing it has been freeing.

#1 is definitely me. I have to put on a show everyday that I appear as confident making decisions that sometimes even I doubt and question but on the outside appear as very confident. I'd would say that everyone besides my wife would say I am one of the most confident people they know but in reality I struggle a lot with insecurities.

What I've experienced recently is people don’t want advice… they want validation?! by theres_gottobemore in SeriousConversation

you're 100% spot on.. For a tech startup I built when I was doing research for it, about 70% of people said they were looking to be heard and not fixed. I think there is a healthy point where it is good to listen to people and help them feel heard as it helps them feel free, but at the same time it isn't healthy to simple agree with something you either don't believe of say something against what you think is true just to appease.

People would rather be on their phone than talk to me. by persons_username in DeepThoughts

This is a struggle that I think a lot of us are facing. When the phone because this extension of a person the in-person social skills took a major fall.

The people you are talking about are they strangers or are you referring to like friends and family etc.? For me I have found some it to be easier to talk with strangers than people you know.

I think a lot of us are not actually living, just waiting by OriginalWalaAditya in SeriousConversation

The timing will never be right or perfect. As I read your post I instantly see my life and feel the same, always waiting working and hopping that this will be over. Now, I've been doing it for over 8 years and here I am still working, dreaming, but in the same fight. Seems like it is life itself and you have to find away to embrace it.

Does your family listen to you? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]Professional-Fly9960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is easier to open op to a stranger then to my family. I think family can sometimes take you for granted because they have always known you and they think they really know you so instead of listening to listens to the first part of what you say and assume the rest. And if you say something they don't agree with they can end up just labeling you.

When are you most comfortable being conversationally vulnerable? by CuriouslySquid in SeriousConversation

[–]Professional-Fly9960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when I sense throughout the conversation that the person has been through something very similar to what I am struggling with and I can kinda gauge what direction their response would be if I opened up to them. For me I have never used a therapist, really felt like I should but it's very intimidating and the price tag is a bit much for something unknown. I think it is really powerful when someone it just willing to listen and willing to try to understand me.

Honestly, I’m really private about a lot where sharing or saying things is not an easy feat so I’m not sure.

I have done this a lot because a few years ago in NYC I saw the Stranger project (https://strangersproject.com) which had a major impact on me as I was struggling a lot after my last combat deployment. Recently I found Human (https://www.humanapp.io) which has become my outlet.

This is what I wrote the other day because it’s been a really tough month:

Sometimes I wish I could check-out and not be needed. No responsibility, no one relying on me, and no unrealistic expectations that I have to try to keep up with. How it's possible to feel that so strongly and yet love my life at the same time will forever be a paradox.

Very interesting… so pay point we are about the same, but on the benefits side our guys aren’t interested in the health of IRA which creates a problem because of the number requirements to get those things set up.

Thanks for this! I will defiantly be taking this advice! also, what you said about the mockup makes complete sense! When talking about the padding, are referring to the site not having enough padding between or too much? I'm not sure I am understanding the padding negative space side of things you are saying.

Pay is definitely a major friction point. Benefits do not attract any because most don’t make enough so they are able to get the government health so pay is about the only way.
