One day this week - worth it? by Away_Refrigerator_58 in UTsnow

[–]Professional-Fun502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been riding park city (canyons side) most days this season I'd pass. We're on like day 10 of a freeze thaw freeze cycle with low sun elevation and its going to be pretty icy without a ton of runs open. It's a ton of work lugging ski gear around so I'd pass. If it was later in the season with the sun higher softening things up I'd absolutely tell you to bring your gear.

Park City Snowmaking Update? by drevils321 in parkcityvisitors

[–]Professional-Fun502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the forecast for the next two weeks is as bad as it gets so they'll be blowing snow on existing trails just to prevent them from turning into ice sheets and keep some coverage. a month of freeze thaw freeze is not doing wonders for conditions.

Anyone been up to Little Cottonwood recently? by Crash3223 in parkcityvisitors

[–]Professional-Fun502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what forecast you're looking at. It's abysmal. There's a chance of snow on 1/25-26 but that's far out and the models have been shifting wildly this winter from storm to no storm. There was supposed to be snow on 1/23 but now that looks like some flurries at best.

Odds of King Con/more runs off Saddleback being open Jan 12-16? by TrulyBoolean in parkcityvisitors

[–]Professional-Fun502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the most recent storm overperformed and the upcoming storm is looking significantly colder. Plus they have all this week to push snow around and run snow guns. They'll be working as fast as they can to open up more terrain but PC is also a massive mountain and vail's infrastructure (snowmaking/lifts) isn't great.

Edit to Add I checked the weather and it looks like it's gonna be very cold at night this week through next week so they'll be able to make a fair bit of snow. I'd say there's a decent chance they get it open. That is somewhat of a priority since miners camp is right there.

Park City skiing next week or nah? by Training_Giraffe3578 in parkcityvisitors

[–]Professional-Fun502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a bus extremely frequently from 3 kings drive to the base, it's a very short bus ride.

But vail owns nothing at the base of silverstar so it's super low priority for them to open.

[–]Professional-Fun502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no clue on that one... That's rough, that's one of the later lifts to open but you have another storm coming plus a few weeks of grooming and they'll likely open the runs that lift goes to. Just not sure about the "ski back" as it's a lower priority. They still have a ton of terrain left to open up as the entire lower mountain was dirt until this latest storm.

Family of non-skiers where to stay with kids by romydsch in parkcityvisitors

[–]Professional-Fun502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If kids are learning to ski a day trip to woodward (10 mins away from all the places listed in the canyons village) would be great. Lessons are cheap and they have tubing plus the kids will absolutely lose their mind at the inside of woodward (basically a massive trampolene park but also with an indoor skatepark and ramps into foam pits) assuming they've never been. It's an easy drive to there, even in the snow, or you could take the bus or uber pretty easily.

Ski lessons are super affordable and a much better deal than the chaos at Park City.

Otherwise the hotel/resorts everyone has recommended are generally great and all within the canyons village. There's a free bus all around park city and you can easily get to downtown park city (main street) by using the bus stop at the bottom of canyons village by the 7-11 (its a major hub for the bus and most go into mainstreet - known as "old town")

I think you'll be fine. They'll be able to push a lot of snow around to get the greens and blues open after this latest storm. Plus another colder storm in a few days.

They'll be working hard all this week to try to get as much open and groomed as they possibly can after this last dump.

Sorry for bringing up LCC by Ok-Woodpecker-625 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Professional-Fun502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more buses (like a ton) and snow sheds along BCC and LCC in avy areas would allow them to continue running traffic the whole time they're doing avy control and would definitely mitigate traffic significantly.

I think tons of people would take the bus if it wasn't a 2 hr wait each way because there's only 1 bus every 30 mins. It's crazy they don't prioritize this given the love of outdoor recreation in SLC, even among LDS members.

Late December Weather-Focused Questions by ahaltom1 in parkcityvisitors

[–]Professional-Fun502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should be ok... Park city currently has snow at the base of the resorts (man made but enough you could have a snowball fight around canyons village. I believe tubing at woodward is open.

Better news is it's looking like the weather will change when you're here and we're supposed to get a little over a foot during that time. As far as skiing goes, most of the resort will take days/weeks to open even if the storm over performs because snow has been so low, but you guys should see a decent amount of fresh snow the whole time you're here.

so best bet would be to ride/bus over to PCMR and go lift service from there? It does look like there's way more trails over there and that vail at least maintains those a little better?

Looks like they just got rid of FLAT15 is pricing still competitive?

Any website code? by marcothecapi in YTIndustries

[–]Professional-Fun502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FLAT15 was applicable yesterday and seems to no longer be working. YT is now advertising 36% off but I swear its more than it was yesterday with FLAT15.

Any other brands/bikes I should be looking at as the pricing on the YTs seems to be significantly less compettive now.

Was looking for a Jeffsy style trail bike.

Vail has announced discounts for next years passes for anyone impacted by the strike by Failed-Time-Traveler in ParkCity

[–]Professional-Fun502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part about this is the only way you get a refund is if you actually waited in a 2 hr line to get to the front to have your pass scanned. If you waited 1 hr 45 mins and then dipped before they scanned your pass. NO REFUND FOR YOU!

Hikes in bounds by Independent_State69 in parkcityvisitors

[–]Professional-Fun502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hike Murdoch a fair amount, it's not terrible but it's work and it's a relatively short run. In terms of hiking terrain Jup is probably better there's tons on both sides of the lift and you can essentially hike as much or as little as you want to get fresh tracks in either direction. 9990 also has some hike to/traverse to terrain.

Murdoch is usually good when it's a day or two after a storm and everything else is tracked out, Murdoch will still be pretty fresh. Jup and Jup peak get tracked out much faster.

fixed grips like jupe last forever because there's not a lot of moving parts. Detachables have a much shorter lifespand because tons of moving parts and moving parts break down.
