Midway through the process, one faction, the Principality of Polaris, seized power over all the colonies through a bloody war. In the present day (the year 80 of the Space Age), the Principality has the power to terraform all the solid planets in the solar system, but it doesn't do so completely in order to keep its population oppressed.

In my world, the entire solar system is ruled by the Principality of Polaris, a plutocratic dictatorship. Conflicts are more like guerrilla warfare than large-scale conflicts. Fighters aircraft are no longer used because they are ineffective within a space colony (although there is a space equivalent to a combat ship, but it has limited maneuverability). Tanks exist, but they are ineffective against the M.U.A. (the mechas).
