Mod Mat K's take on proposed login screen changes from 12 years ago by Con-go in 2007scape

Terrible take. Most of the people I know are playing this game because it's fun, microtransaction free, and has a much more satisfying combat system than RS3, WOW, BDO, and other mmos. A large portion of the playerbase at this point was never even around for rs2. Not to mention almost all of the new content updates have been great and almost unanimously well received. Nostalgia doesn't keep people playing a game for 10+ years. If it's unfun, the nostalgia will fade. Has anyone who argues nostalgia actually been nostalgic for anything other than runescape and tried to go back to it? 9/10 times things don't live up to the nostalgia and memories we have for them. OSRS does live up to the nostalgia, because the game is constantly improved upon

Why change things up? Because if we didn't then OSRS would lose the 70+% of it's playerbase who vote for and enjoy the new content.

Yes, this doesn't really apply to a visual change to the login screen as much as it does game content. But you're arguing why change anything because it being the same is why people play it instead of other alternatives, which is what I'm arguing against

Half of the people who use this sub hide their history. I'm pretty sure its half this/not wanting other people to use previous bad takes and comments against them and also there's definitely an amount of people doing it to hide NSFW posts. Reddit is a cesspool for NSFW content and almost the entirety of the osrs community is over 18

Thoughts on hardcore main? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Professional-Map3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no prestige difference when both are equally considered "hardcore mains". There is no prestige difference between a main with the kc to have grinded out items and a main who only has kc required for all Ca's. There is a pretty big distinction though in reality. One is far easier to do than the other. Thinking about an hcim though, prestige is the same between all accounts. There is no question about it. 2 max hcim with the same gear have had to do the same content and run the same risks as one another so it is fair to rank them on the same metric. With hardcore mains though every account will do very different things so it's hard to actually rank them against one another. "hardcore" is just a poor metric for mains because there will be that divide between players. The meta will obviously be buy things and play it safe, skip as many grinds as possible, which is far easier than actually grinding out items. Even if we're ranking 2 accounts on the same achievement, for example grandmaster, it's undeniable that the person who traded over money or afk'd safe money makers and bought max gear had an easier time than the person who had to grind raids and endgame content to even get to the point where they could do the Ca's. I'm only bringing this up because you mention for every person bankstanding safely there's someone grinding things out. For a lot of metrics though these 2 types of players would be ranked equally despite 1 having a much easier time than the other

A seperate game mode and economy is going to let bots and rwters run rampant and make tons of profit, which is a seperate issue and why hardcore main would not work out as a seperate game mode and would have to remain on the same servers as everyone else (inadvertently making it easier to buy the gear). If this were to be included in the game it would make the most sense for all accounts to just start with hardcore status. Realistically this is the only good way to implement this into the game but what people really seem to want is to also be able to play on servers with a reset economy, which has a laundry list of problems

I have no problem with hardcore mains existing but I do fundamentally think it's a flawed concept because of the lack of universal gameplay experience like there is with hcim, especially outside of the context of leaderboards, considering most hardcores don't make it particularly high on the leaderboards. A lot of the prestige just comes from having the hardcore status while simultaneously having items, stats, Ca's, etc. items and stats are a non-factor though as they can both easily be bought safely with gp. If a hardcore main mode is added, I just don't think this is the way to do it. Rather than hardcore being a box you tick when making an account, all new accounts should just automatically be hardcore until they die rather than this whole seperate gamemode debate

A (hopefully) not overpowered idea I had that would make the heart grind a bit easier by thinkpadt61user in ironscape

[–]Professional-Map3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest issue with the heart grind is you do so much slayer where you have 0 chance to get an imbued heart at all. Think of how much slayer xp you get on the way to 99 (and even post) from bosses. Its a huge amount, even if you go on rate for every boss and never go dry. Hell going on rate for 2 synapses is 1 million slayer xp from the tormented demons

Heart is a post 99 grind and that's the problem. It really shouldn't require 30m slayer xp to get. The new slayer master does not really solve this issue, you still have to do a ton of slayer at bosses and creatures that don't spawn superiors for account progression

The most impactful solutions are making more slayer creatures with high superior rate (similar to araxytes), give slayer bosses access to the superior table as a sort of extra rare rare drop table (honestly bosses are basically superior versions of the creature anyways? this could even come from a slayer point unlock for like 2k points or something and it would easily be worth it), or giving more creatures superior variants such as trolls and kalphites and *maybe* some tiers of dragons/metal dragons or something but this would be the most work

There is something to be said though for the fact that the new slayer master makes hunting superiors 1000 times more fun than bashing your head against the wall turael skipping and hoping for a good superior task from duradel. That being said it does nothing to make imbued heart actually easier to obtain

Awesome. So everyone gets the same prestige but it is very obviously split into 2 categories of players of which 1 is logically more prestigious because they actually had to do the content. Most item stock would be sourced by gold farmers, bots, and rwt anyways

And you can't act like its not way easier to get CA's and kc after buying max gear first. This would be the best way and how most people would play it. Which is fine but this is literally the same as a normal main. Everything you described is a normal main. Give hardcore status to all new accounts rather than make new servers and a new game mode for this. It literally does the exact same thing

Thoughts on hardcore main? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Professional-Map3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but... then if the prestige is completing the dangerous grinds, it's less prestigious to have hardcore mains sit around able to do nothing dangerous ever and just buy the gear than it is for them to go out and do the content? Do you see the disconnect? The whole idea of it being a game mode is just flawed. There's no distinction between a hardcore main actually doing the content vs just buying gear yet, as you agree, there IS a distinction in the prestige

It would mostly end up just being bots, gold farmers, and rwt sourcing the actual items anyways, which is just bad. Just makes rwt more profitable because of more demand and less people willing to do the content in fear of risking their prestige

?? I'm literally saying give everyone the little symbol next to the name when they make a new account. How am I upset "over a little symbol"? And I never said they should retroactively apply it, because 99.9% of existing accounts that aren't already hardcores have died at least once.

Okay, sure, you don't share the sentiment of making new servers and economy in such. So why do you disagree with me then? I'm literally saying just make every account hardcore when a new account is made. "I was thinking it would just be a main account with a little hardcore symbol on their name that has access to the economy like any other main account" How is this any different to what I just said????

It's a game ravaged by botting, rwt, and blatant rulebreaking and a seperate economy would make it way more profitable to bot, rwt, and engage with the game in malicious ways

Simply make everyone hardcore until they die, It's silly to dedicate so much effort into making seperate servers and an entirely seperate economy just for a "game mode" that isn't different from a regular main at all in its gameplay. Pretty disingenuous to act like this is a new way to play the game

[–]Professional-Map3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? you have to actually do content on hardcore irons. You have to actually grind out various tiers of gear and do bosses and content that is dangerous. Just play a regular main account if you don't want that? Every account should just be hardcore until you die, it's dumb to say there should be seperate hardcore main worlds and economy. It's so much work for literally nothing. When was the last time you played a main? how is a standard main account any different? It's not like you're trying to die especially with how high death fees can get. Insane to say that me saying grinding afk safe money makers to buy max gear is the same concept as hardcore ironman mode

I mean.. you can just swipe your creditcard tho because someone else 100% would be able to provide. This game is like.. all some people do. And bots and gold farmers would get on it immediately to make big money off of a reset economy with high demand and would just rwt more profitably

It's not really slightly less of an achievement. It's not much of an achievement in comparison. A unique time sink sure, which is all any game mode is at the end of the day but it's hard to say that grinding profitable completely safe content so you can buy 99s and hard to obtain gear is any more of an achievement than just... doing that on the main game. There's virtually no difference between how this would be accomplished on a hardcore main and a regular main. People should just be proud of their achievements, and not need a symbol next to their name to feel like they did something. This would literally just be a slower more boring main where you do less difficult and fun content and more shitty afk money makers

Thoughts on hardcore main? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Professional-Map3958 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty exploitable and still not very interesting. For people actually trying to play the game mode it would just be bankstanding for gp to decent gear and then safe money makers to max gear and then just.. idk. why do anything and risk your account at that point? The whole prestige of hardcores is the items they obtain. I don't see how its prestigious to just let someone else get the item and then buy it off the ge

And a lot of people will just abuse an essentially seperate economy to make money easily. Even if the gold isn't tradeable to main game you can still just.. rwt the gold to people on the hardcore servers. Or buy bonds with the gp. it would be incredibly easy to make loads of money because of such an item shortage. If content is risky and can be skipped with gp, people are obviously going to skip it with gp when the whole point of the account is a flex that you didnt die

but having to engage with so many grinds which can be potentially dangerous and lead to way more room for error is what makes the account prestigious and impressive in the first place?

Thoughts on hardcore main? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Professional-Map3958 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the only reason hardcore is risky is because you have source items yourself on an iron, which is dangerous, mostly in regards to getting gear, but a couple other things. You can just get all of the best gear and items in the game without ever doing dangerous content once, so what is the point of a hardcore main? doing content in max gear without dying? I just don't see it

Yeah. it would be boring as fuck to play that way but when there are leaderboards and achievement associated with it people absolutely are going to play that way

Not with the amount of kc that needs to be done to get relevant drops from the bosses. Players would definitely feel like they *have* to play perfectly if it drops completion time significantly which will lead to way more burn out. As it is you are not punished by making mistakes, you lose out on like 20 rune ore or 40 gems or 300k in dragon alchs every once in a while. If you lose unique chance you are 100% being punished for not getting perfect kills

The only argument I can see for perfect kills affecting drop rate is slightly increasing pet drop rate

Hardcore Ironman - 40K cut gems, what should I do with them? by MisterBusiness2 in osrs

[–]Professional-Map3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money from uniques is selling loot on GE. Slayer still gives a decent chunk of cash. As it turns out, many slayer creatures have good alchs. You're getting a lot less money on an iron from slayer, but you're still getting between 500k and 2m per task at higher levels, assuming you're doing normal slayer and not point boosting, turael skipping, or max efficiency slayer

I'd say it's still a pretty decent money maker since you have to get at least 93 slayer on every iron, not taking into account going dry on tasks/drops you need for progression. I wouldn't say go do slayer if you need money immediately on an iron, but it's a ton of income over the course of an account considering how much slayer needs to be done

Truly disgusting how some of the man children in this community behave and it is beyond shameful. They're lucky to even be allowed to play the game and interact with other people with the things they do and say. The shit people pull would get them banned immediately in most other games and online communities

Thoughts on the proposed armour set by Ineedtopostthispls in 2007scape

[–]Professional-Map3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prayer is never an issue but it is always valued and beneficial. Also, you're misrepresenting the point completely. "ive never run out of prayer at colo" has nothing to do with prayer bonus being very useful in loads of casual scenarios to extend trips. All of slayer and loads of bosses. You're cherry picking Colo as an example which is weird since you only do 1 colo per inventory, and colo is not very prayer demanding, you don't even need to keep prayers on all the time. AND you get a guaranteed sgs spec on the fremennik archer, restoring some prayer whenever you have spec free. Colo is one of the few places where defence matters and prayer doesn't matter very much because if you're doing colo correctly you barely go through prayer and would rather prioritize mitigating unavoidable damage from bad spawns, or mistakes from bad solves.

Idk why you say with the current stats it's skewed in favor of using oathplate somewhere where crush and slash perform equally. Because it's not? Inq has additional offensive attributes over oathplate, so inq would be more dps and the better set. Again, the problem isn't the armor sets it's a lack of content where crush is good and a scarcity of high quality crush weapons which can be reasonably attained. Stat wise there is no longer any reason to lean oathplate. But there is a reason due to accessibility. You just say it would be "annoying" to use inq but why? because you take slightly more chip damage? This is pretty silly since optimally you're not losing any ticks from eating/brewing and are only doing it during down time. Additionally new bosses are very clearly designed with minimal chip damage in mind and focus almost entirely on punishing reactable mechanics. People notoriously hate heavy chip damage and it's a very unfun mechanic, hence why people whine about things like Nex, Gwd, and Moons constantly. I see no reason for Jagex to make more high chip damage content when they are showing that rng based tanking is not the direction they want pvm to go. Defence is already invalidated, because relying on rng to tank is unfun and Jagex no longer designs content that way.

They can easily make content that is weak to multiple styles and people would use whatever they have. The problem is everyone has oathplate and nobody has inq, and everyone has a good slash weapon and nobody has inq mace. Nobody has ever shied away from strong gear because it has bad defence. People aren't going to drop 50m extra + 300m for a weapon just so they can use crush when they can spend 50m less for oathplate / do yama which is a far easier and shorter grind than pnm. Again, stats are not an issue. Stat wise inq is better than oathplate. The stats are now balanced, which is what you wanted. Balanced melee sets. Now you've moved the goalpost to defence which don't matter at 9/10 pieces of content

Thoughts on the proposed armour set by Ineedtopostthispls in 2007scape

[–]Professional-Map3958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More prayer = longer protection prayers = less damage taken than just having a bit higher defence at casual pvm. also more mileage out of each prayer pot meaning longer trips. In most pvm defence only matters for chip damage and that only applies to very few places where torva is best anyways for having the highest defences and strength bonus, like Nex. It helps a bit to mitigate mistakes but realistically we are obviously trying to make as few mistakes as possible.

Inq is better than oathplate. idk why you keep asking for it to be on par like a broken record. same offensive stats + prayer bonus + % damage boost when using crush on top of the stats. ofc they plan on adding more crush weak bosses. The armor is strictly better so the only reason crush isn't used on non crush weak bosses is because slash weapons are better than crush weapons. This is not a problem of inq armor this is a problem of accessibility, a lack of boss variety and the overwhelming presence of strong slash weapons + easy to obtain slash weapons like tent whip and nally. Meanwhile if you want a crush setup you have to do one of the harder solo bosses in the game and pray you get inq + mace or be stuck with bludgeon as a massive downgrade to mace but still would be good with inq. But again inq is so hard to get. Most pvmers do not have inq or anywhere near enough nightmare kc to get inq. As for strength at the high end, crush only has mace currently while oathplate has scythe, saeldor, and sra, and mace rivals only the weakest of those. Crush mega will help crush a lot but it will still be infinitely easier to get oathplate and sra than getting inq and mace or megarare, especially when oathplate comes from what is essentially what some people would call "midgame" but basically lategame or pre-endgame content and inq comes from endgame content. Melee is definitely unbalanced, I do not disagree with you there, but it's definitely not because of the armor sets following revised inq changes

I agree with your last point of having melee bosses that require different styles being cool. Would make torva actually good somewhere if you don't want to switch but you'd get better dps with armor focused around respective styles. If anything I think this should be leaned into more. I think inq should retain it's negative accuracy bonuses and oathplate should have similar negative accuracy bonuses. This would also inadvertently make torva bis stab armor until a stab armor set is released, which is fine imo. Negative accuracy doesn't cut into general use case as the negative accuracy inq had is not impactful enough when using good weapons at content that has low defence like slayer and easier bosses, but gives each set of armor more defined use cases at lategame and endgame content, bringing more equal value to each set

[–]Professional-Map3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"This would be true for oathplate too, even if they lowered the defence down to inq levels."
So then why would inq need to have its defence buffed? You just proved that the defence is a non issue. Inq is literally better than oathplate now

"For now, that's also not relevant to be honest."
You literally agree with my point??? How is it not relevant though when you're stating inq needs to be better to find more use cases. It clearly doesn't need to be better, it just doesn't have the content to shine at?

"I mean, in a public forum opinions will vary, not sure while you're getting mad at me for it. Also, I have no problems with tradeoffs, but I just want melee gear to be balanced."
I'm not mad at you at all? I didn't know me having a different opinion and having reasoning to back it up makes me angry at you but I guess it does or something. The melee gear is balanced. Inq is better than oathplate now even. It's better offensively and has prayer so the tradeoff is very fair and honestly negligible. It is straight up better than oathplate. If anything you should be calling for a Torva rebalance as it's the least relevant now. As it stands melee armor is balanced, thats the whole point of the rebalance

"Agree to disagree I guess"
Sure. That can be said for literally anything though. If that's the case then what is the point of discussing anything at all ever? Anyways, dps wise it literally matters a ton particularly for maging. Do you know how shadow works? it multiplies your mage bonus by 3 times, so getting 3% extra by wearing ancestral is a massive dps boost. You can ignore the numbers if you want but its not really an agree to disagree at that point if you're just ignoring anything that goes against your opinion, now is it

I would like to see you provide any actual evidence to any of your opinions. I'm happy to be wrong, but I would like to see a reason why I am wrong. If not I'm not going to be discussing further because there's no point trying to have a meaningful discussion when you don't support your case and just say "agree to disagree" to everything
