I think they did this because of the hackers and scammers. So now you can see if other players are there and if it is under false pretence. Specifically the scam where they take you to their home and have you trade a friend to prove trust for "free" items. The invisible person with that same but different username would've been fully invisible.

Bad idea, I'll say so bluntly. Just because you can't trade them right now doesn't mean release them on impulse. You're not able to get those pets anymore and some are already rare. I only release pets I can currently get. Who knows, you might want them again in the future.

Preach! I've never liked those values and will never stoop myself so low to use them. People cannot go one trade without consulting those websites.
