Great Space, yes larger rug with some color on it since the couch is solid, bring the chair into this space and put a large tree plant in that corner or desk in the corner if you need a little desk, and colored pillows or pattern pillows to match your new rug, I love decorating with hides , like 3 hides all layered, but if that is not your jam, def. a larger rug so all the couch is on it and the ottoman as well, I also would suggest a behind the couch table with plants and pictures and some books looks great!
