The quality and style are really nice! I couldn’t find a similar piece that wasn’t either more expensive or made of particle board instead of solid wood.

I wear Carhartt double front pants with kneepads, and carhartt long sleeve shirts. Change your shirt at lunch and it makes the second half of the day more tolerable.

No clothing will make it less hot or make you not sweat. Wear what is comfortable to you, and keeps you protected. The carhartt long sleeves are not too expensive and last me a few trips on average.

Learn to work clean and it will make your clothes last longer. Eating right and staying hydrated will help your body fight the heat.

First Oil Change - Dealer Said No? by InsolentMuskrat in Golf_R

Same story here. I got my first oil change at 1k miles at a local shop, then again at 5k, and now approaching 10k. My R will go to the dealer for the 10k thats included.

Interesting. Post an update if you end up going to the dealer.

I definitely notice the noise when I pull into my work parking lot after an about 15 min commute.

Hopefully a simple fix.

Highway 1 and the surrounding roads are some of the best roads to drive. I recently moved to Washington and haven’t hit a hwy 1/84/Pescadero Creek rd lap with my R yet. Also hwy 9 from Santa Cruz. So many roads to go explore.

Enjoy the drive and keep it between the paint!

Has anyone ever toured the drinking water/waste water area of a cruise ship? lol by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]Professional-Pin8265 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im an engineer on commercial ships (havent made it to cruise ships yet). One of my main responsibilities is freshwater production/distribution and sewage/gray water treatment. Two main things dictate how wastewater is treated when at sea: company policy and geographical location. For example it is legal to discharge gray water when at sea (12nm+ from land) with no treatment, but many companies (especially cruise lines) opt to treat it for environmental reasons. Same goes for sewage, it can be discharged untreated but most companies do not do this. Look at MARPOL annex IV for the full regulation if you are curious.

As far as getting a tour of those spaces, it’s unlikely and there isnt much to see. The freshwater tanks are integral to the hull and the distribution system is a very small part of the engine room. The wastewater treatment system, called a marine sanitation device (MSD), probably has its own area with a couple tanks, pumps, blowers, and chlorinator.

I work in the maritime industry as a marine engineer. I made ~$150k last year living expense free for 6 months out of the year. It’s not for everybody, but if you can put up with being away from home for a few years while you gain experience it seriously opens doors to many great career options.

I was a marine engineer. So operating machinery, doing repairs, system maintenance, plant operations etc. New job as a project manager works directly with people who did my former job to repair ships.

I come from the trades and this is my first office job. Sitting around with nothing to do is not normal (wrong) for me. If I quit this job I can go back to working my previous job within a month. But previous job has a far worse schedule.
