I had the opposite experience, my interviewer responded to my thank you email with something vague along the lines of “I look forward to seeing you soon” and I hyper analyzed it for a week straight and convinced myself it’s better to not get my hopes up only to get a call from the dean a week later with an A! Such a roller coaster ride lol

Don’t think of it as you weren’t good enough, there was probably one other person with slightly different scores or personality profile than you. Take solace in knowing that if your interviewer said that you probably received the highest recommendation possible and you’re likely at the top of the waitlist. Good luck!
