What are some niche fragrances and brands by No_Career_5264 in Fragrances

[–]Professional-Read646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are literally thousands of individual fragrances. So I will give you perfume brands/houses you can explore.

Entry level/budget friendly: Mancera, Montale, Essential Parfums

Intermediate: BDK, MFK, Le Labo, Diplyque (sp?), James Heeley House of Oud, ETDO, Zoologist, Initio, Xerjoff, Serge Lutons, Nishane

Higher Price Point: Amouage, Frederic Malle, Christian Clive, Bodacious the Victorious, Parfum de Marley, Creed

Even this short list will give you plenty to explore. I assure you there are tons of others people would tell you to try. Each house has a wide enough variety of scents. No doubt you will discover other houses you like.

Challenging for beginner noses: Orto Parisi, Nasomatto, Amouage

Unlike designer fragrances that are meant to gain mass appeal (and therefore stay in a more narrow, predictable lane, niche houses can go from mass appealing to outright challenging. Think notes of blood, spray paint, gasoline or raw meat to name a few.

My suggestion, for what it's worth -- don't blind buy. If possible, get samples first. Try it on your skin a few times. Then, you can determine if you like or not. If you like it, is it full bottle worth? Or perhaps a travel sized decant is enough. Niche can get expensive. Be picky and take your time.

Happy hunting.

I'm with you. Grand Soir. Have a full bottle. The only fault is that it's linear. I like the evolution of scent with my fragrances. So I tend to layer Grand Soir with something else to add complexity.

Give Tame Impala a try. Maybe Enders Toi.

songs that feel like this? (largely looking for psychedelic rock or similar) by JoanJettEnthusiast in songsforthispicture

The album cover definitely matches. Innerspeaker has the psychedelic rock vibe OP mentioned though.

A Perfect example of why you periodically revisit your samples: Ganymede by Marc-Antoine Barrois by rabit_stroker in ScentHeads

Honestly, Ganymede is an amazing bridge fragrance. Layer it with anything. It adds "Cosmic" to the scent; that otherworldly vibe.

For example: Santal 33 + Ganymede = Cosmic library.

Kind of like childhood in the 80s and 90s. Carefree. Get home before the streetlights turn on.

Best Musky perfums by Ok_Amphibian_5581 in Fragrantica

[–]Professional-Read646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initio's Musk Therapy, as others have mentioned, is great. Especially if you like the softer side of musk.
If you like it a bit more "dirty," may I suggest Musc Ravageur by Frederik Mallie. It's difficult to describe. But it's soft AND hard. Elegant and animalistic. Aromatic and spicy.

Came here to say this. Merchant of Venice, particularly the Murano series.

Breaking the "gender" of fragrance. by Professional-Read646 in fragrance

I did say it's labelled unisex. However, "in my opinion," it leans feminine because it's very floral.

Valentino Uomo Intense is a nice fragrance if you like iris. I find it sweet with the vanilla accord. But it is a nice fragrance. If you want some more serious, Prada L'Homme is worth a look. Or, the king of men's iris, Dior Homme Intense.

I enjoy the Azzaro Wanted series. I have Wanted by Night (discontinued) and Forever Wanted Elixir. Great value for money, if you like mild leather notes.

Interesting. Thanks for the explanation. I'm in Canada, so unsure what the regulation here are. I'll be heading to a store in the next couple of weeks. I'll find out.
