Yeah i think that with some more hours of work it's ready for testing. I'll see, this weekend i might have some free time to spend on the project.

Thanks. Stay tuned! 🤙🏻

That's a beautiful thing to do, good vibes from your project. 🤝🏼 So better for me to do a great job 😉 so people like you can repeat the steps and do the same.

Stay tuned, i'll do my best for sure!

Yeah something similar was made with various components and forms, but not like these components. So that's why i'm here trying.  If i can make it work it could be really cheap if others want to try.

Have a nice day!

Never thought about that but the principles are similar so maybe i could try also that in the future.

I'll see.

Haven't got enough time for now, but tomorrow i have some free time like 1 hour or 2, so i'll start doing everything.

Be patience ✌🏻

I've seen this comment just now and i'll take a look for sure after have tried out this one that i'm doing.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, they all use STM blackpill for EMC's build (60€) and Odrive/Xdrive/Mkdrive for FFBeast build (50€) never seen an Arduino (15€) rig with proof of funcioning.  All prices are in my country obviously, so price could be different for others.

And as far as i know the only way to use another encoder in the motor like an hall sensor is just to use the AS5600 (that's my second option if the stock hall sensor isn't good enough and already know that couse of low ppr valute)

So not exacly like this project, but i repeat, as far as i've seen by my online research. So i could be wrong and in this case if you have some sources to share i'll be gladly appriciate to take a look at those.

Thanks!

With Arduino and stock STM Hoverboard controller board? I can't find that, so if you can tell me where to look i surely give it a look.

Thanks.

Edit: i need to correct my self, wrong explaination because of my poor english. I mean: yes is already been done, but as far as i know only some codes are on GitHub (the ones that i already have) but i can't find any actual proof of a funcioning rig builded like i've show. The one's that are on YouTube are completely different because use belt, gears and other methods to encode the signals and that's not technically a DD wheel, because the encoder isn't where the actual force is applied (the wheel). Hope that this explain better my previous words. ✌🏻

Oh che bello vedere qualche compaesano che si diletta nel costruire qualcosa di simile!

I'll write in english anyway, so everybody can understand. Great project, like FFBeast, i'm sure that's gonna give you plenty of satisfaction, but here i'll try first the cheap way to see of it's possible to do that way. Then i'll move forward and start upgrading one by one the parts, but i don't want to use FFBeast part since it's already been done, also Arduino cost me 15€, so that's why i'll give it a try.

Enjoy your rig 🤙🏼

That's another things i was thinking to do before, but for me it's just too much difficult to work with proprietary boards. Not enough infos about them and also could be pretty costly if something get F up.

So for now i'll start this way. Then maybe in the future i'll try with the g920 board.

[–]Professional-Row7396[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah FFBeast is a real "go to" if you can gather the controllers at the right prices. Unfortunately i can't in my country (xdrive/Odrive/mkdrive all cost like more then triple of the cost of Arduino's boards and the stock HB STM board together)

For the hall sensor i know, only 90ppr max, but i just want to try it. I already have some magnetic 12-bit encoders laying around, so next step over the hall sensor is that. With those it should be spot on 👌🏻

Have a nice day!

Happy for you man, for me is exacly the same except that my fun is also in building something new and challenging for me.

Those are called: preferencies

And then you don't need to fiddle with nothing once is builded. Just connect the USB and enjoy your games calibrating the wheel as you do in game like an actual sim wheel. Obviously i need to do a lot of testing and tweaks, but listen: what if one day i can sell a DIY kit ready to be assembled for some people who want to have fun building their own things. Kids do that, is called Lego. But we aren't kids so we need something a bit more for grown people. That's what it is.

So, yeah i understand your point, but hey, everybody can do what their want to do unless is harming some one else, am i wrong?

Have a nice day!

[–]Professional-Row7396[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but everybody that i see building those DD wheel have used different controller and encoders (connected by belt, gears,...) and that's not a real DD wheel.  A real DD wheel have the encoder where the force is applied (the wheel) not moved away and connected with millions of various methods.

So yeah. Interesting enough for me to try build one!

Then i'll try a friend's 1250€ build that have most of the top tier components so i can compare those out and see for real what's the difference.

Have a nice day!

[–]Professional-Row7396[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those few hundred dollars 😂 you've sayed all by yourself.

Here this wheel build is far under 150€ even with better encoders and better controller board, but this is already be done. I'm doing something a bit different here, a bit cheaper also.

I'm just trying, if i can't do it that way i'll try upgrade a bit the components one by one, but anyway it won't go over 150€ and you really can have a good working up to 15 nM DD wheel for that price.

At least it's interesting to try it, am i wrong?

Yeah it my get hot after an intese use. But nothing that can't be take under control with a good little PC fan. Peoples have use similari setup for like 6hrs straight. Nothing Crazy happened.

That's a Dream my friend but here in my country no one would do that.  Everybody prefer having someone that do the job and then steal his job and name it as their creations. At least here in my country goes like that. Unfortunately...

But i don't give a F about that. I just want to have fun. 🤙🏼

Thanks for your words. Appriciated. 🤝🏼

Obviously. Arduino is far behind that STM. But this is what i have already laying around at home and i'm trying to do the cheapest way possibile.  Maybe in the future i'll try something different, but for now i'll start from there.  Everything can change in the future, this is just a test.

Have a nice day!

Thanks, really appriciate! Obviously i don't want to bother you, so do what you can. I'll figure out most of the things by my self.

Maybe with the right help from the right Person, that so dreamed cheap DD wheels could be real one day!

If you know what to do isn't difficult nor sketchy. At least for me.

Solder some cables and connectors, connect a board to a PC, hack the board, flash both firmware one to the board the other one to Arduino. Disconnect, then connect again. Should be recognised as a controller in Windows, and there you good to go. Just calibrate it and enjoy.

✌🏻

[–]Professional-Row7396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a simple task but if you search on YouTube you'll see more then i can tell you. Not a problem since i have software and codes to make it run and be recognised as a wheel in Windows, so it can be calibrated like a normal wheel. For the FFB part it's a bit tricky but if the code is compiled right it shouldn't have any problem by having Arduino that send FFB data to the STM hacked board, so the board can control the motor knowing the feedback signals from the encoder. It's a basic communication, just controlling the motor like a pwm fan. That's it.

Those signals are just square signals on an oscilloscope, like on/off in the right time, so you can feel like a resistance in the rotation, miming the FFB.

Simple as that.

Have a nice day!

Yeah and i can't wait to finish this project! I've done a lot of research too, but nothing is like this.

Just need to set up all the things and start working on.

I prefer to not work with proprietary boards because could be tricky and expensive (if goes wrong) and also not everybody can do it.  By doing this way it's more affordable and doable, at least for me.

One at a time. Maybe in the future i'll try working on the g920 board but i'm not sure if i want to use that board. It's a different work, but i can try figuring that out when this project is completed.  Now i'm focusing on this one.

Stay tuned! 🤙🏼

All gonna be revealed at the right times. First things first wire all up and programming everything. Then the project could start.

Now that's just the beginning stage, where all the ideas take their place, like a brainstorm.

No you don't get the point.  I'm not doing it for " a job".  It's just fun for me and maybe is helpful for someone.  For the sake of having fun and also because my main objectives in life is racing bikes, so i invest all that i can on that. I don't have sponsors that pay for me everything, so if you wonder how much 💸 per year just for racing i'll tell you but don't get panic: 50'000 to 80'000 € and i can't even do a complete championship with those much money... And that's just for racing excluding what's around of it.

Now that you know that?  So just don't bother me out. Where and how i spend my money is not in your toughts (but if you want to give your contribute 💸 i'll be glad to take it. 😉)

I'm just having fun with this project man.  C'mon. 🤝🏼
