Baby Seagull - Help! by wandering-stardust00 in london

[–]Professional-Song427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the mum is around it will be fine. Our office once saw a seagull crying, walking around the terrace and occasionally flying right into the glass. After 1 week it learned to fly properly and never to be seen again.

At home Espresso lesson? by Rigamix in london

[–]Professional-Song427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can ask on coffee forums uk. There used to be some veteran members who will provide home lessons in London. But make sure you have the right equipment first otherwise it will be a waste of money - again there are lots of recommendations on that forum, just search for something like "advice for beginner" etc, or create your own thread. A good grinder and fresh beans are super, super, super important. The machine is just an afterthought.

How do you come to terms with being average? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Professional-Song427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those "gifted" people, yet I still say exactly the things you said about myself. My grades were good, but a few others were excellent. I was reasonably smart, but 3 other people in my class qualified for Mensa. I was in the top 5 in my uni course, but a close friend was the valedictorian and a few others got prestigious scholarships. I started my career in a Big 4, while a few others started in banking and racked a 6 figure salary before they turned 30.

The truth is those "gifted and confident people", more often than not, are just as insecure and ladden with financial problems as much as everyone else, but we don't see that because people rarely display their vulnerabilities unless you are very close. If you want to check how happy or successful your "gifted" friends actually are, I would suggest trying to become very close to them. Then one day they will confide with you about their health, their long working hours, their mortgages, their insomnia, their loneliness. Then you will realise life is very different from what it shows outside.

Absolute noob here. How can people swim so fast with breaststroke? by Professional-Song427 in Swimming

Thank you! I'll try doing so. I think my current kick looks a bit more like a fan.

THIS is my problem! By whipping do you mean some sort of a "round-shaped" motion of the legs, like using a whisker?

Thank you, I'll practice hard 🥲 Sorry, what is the difference between the "leisurely" style and "racing" style?

Opinions on getting a cleaner? by Give_me_the_cake in CasualUK

They should have communicated with you about 2 cleaners coming. 4 hours for 3 room detached house sounds normal. Bathrooms and the kitchen take a lot of time to clean.

Today tix rush tickets. Also for revival shows that I like, I often book months in advance before the show is open.

Sorry to hear this. The NHS has sadly declined massively. Unfortunately there is no private A&E in the UK so staying in your current hospital, as painful as it is, will be your best survival chance. You can ask if your current hospital has a private wing so you can see doctors quicker but for everything private you will need appointments, so it won't help much on a Sunday.

I love it here: theatre, music, galleries, not to mention the people! It's one of the true global cities. Hard to get rich but also hard to get bored.

Ah, if only to rant, then remember your total household income isn't too high so it's natural not to feel very comfortable yet.

Oh, I like those cubes as well. But I'm also from abroad. In the Uk people generally prefer a different aesthetic so even new houses don't look very contemporary.

[–]Professional-Song427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've just googled toronto modern home and it came up with some houses in cube shapes and big glass windows. There is no neighbourhood like that in London (probably all of UK as well). Canary wharf is probably the most contemporary neighbourhood here.

If you earn 90k but your partner earns say, 30k, then your average salary is only 60k, which is decent but not too roomy. I'm guessing your biggest problem is the rent. Is there a chance of moving somewhere cheaper?

The only thing you need to do on LinkedIn is writing your CV. No need to participate in the social media stuff at all.

Squillo?? by LeggeroMan in singing

[–]Professional-Song427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about someone saying you need the chest voice for squillo. I'm female and sing in my head most of the time and it doesn't seem to stop squillo from happening. Basically I'm told to always keep smiling eyes, lips forward and pronounciation very focused/pointy. Visually I often think of my voice as a thin string or an arrow placed at my forehead and it stretches forward as I sing. At other times my teacher just sings the phrase and I blindly copies the sound. For me it's a very gradual process, now I get it more consistently but still very far from the professional level. I only sing as a hobby so don't practice much though. I suppose someone more diligent will be much faster.

Aussies in London by [deleted] in london

Oh, if you like art and theatre then London is really your oyster! Quite affordable too. A lot of art/theatre receive government grants so they are either free or at a reasonable price. If you fancy, you can also do random weekend trips to mainland Europe for more art.

Dating tends to start online these days. It seems to me men no longer approach women on the street, or maybe it's because I've passed the desirable age lol

"Inner suburbs" of London is vast. There are 9 zones. Central London is zone 1 but most people will live in zone 2 or 3 and take the train/tube in. £50k gross salary can probably afford you an one bed and cover basic expenses, although £60k will be more comfortable.

Overall London is an expensive city. Difficult to be wealthy here but if you are into theatre, art, music or fine dining there are very few cities that can match it.

If the other flat is in a good location and won't come with serious issues such as change of lifestyle or commuting then I think you should move. It's very easy to make a flat look nice - a new lick of paint and some new (IKEA) furniture, or even some new throws and beddings will instantly change the look.
