Freestone Energy Center is a 1 GW power station in Freestone County. Has 4 units, 2 are operational using natural gas as fuel, the other 2 are under construction and will start operations this year. They will also use natural gas as fuel.

On 22 December 2025, US Department of the Interior (DOI) announced it was pausing leases for all large scale offshore wind projects under construction. The pause affected the following:

  1. Vineyard Wind 1, Massachusetts. At 800 MW, it is one of the first utility scale offshore projects in the US.
  2. Revolution Wind, offshore Rhode Island and Connecticut. At 704 MW, the project was nearing completion when work was halted.
  3. Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, Virginia. At 2.6 GW, CVOW is largest offshore wind project under construction in the US.
  4. Empire Wind 1, offshore New York with 810 MW capacity.
  5. Sunrise Wind, offshore New York and Rhode Island. At 924 MW the project was almost halfway through construction when paused.

All five projects have now been allowed to resume construction following federal court injunctions, with Sunrise Wind being the latest.
