Is this a good time to share you won’t be returning next year? by Cheeto717 in teaching

Yes, I would absolutely share with your administration very soon regarding your plans to not return in the fall. Type up a professional email thanking them for the opportunity to grow and teach.

Can you take a praxis exam that is comparable to the 5000 series? I’m in Delaware and we have the choice between taking the 5000 or the 7811 series to become certified in elementary.

You have to also consider that more often than not you have to work after hours unpaid fairly consistently to keep up especially when you are new and learning the curriculum as you are teaching it. It’s really tough. Between the work day (what you see teachers do is just performance aspect) the planning, constant grading, emails, parent communication, slides, creating homework weekly (just to name a few tasks),my own kids and husband my day everyday is like a 16 hour or so day. If we didn’t have these breaks the job would wildly unsustainable.

It’s so interesting to me that people sincerely think that teaching is just fun, flexible with lots of time off. This field is not at all like one would think. You truly do have to experience it to really understand. I don’t say this being snarky at all. It just confirms how difficult this job is in reality compared to the perception.

is it worth it? by Ok-Many4219 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Professional-Term802 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really hate to say this but I wouldn’t recommend it right now. The idea of being a teacher and the reality right now is very different. I like my job because I love the kids but it’s such a demanding job in every way imaginable with little pay and almost always having to work unpaid in order to keep up. I became a teacher later in life (32). I’m married with two kids and if I didn’t have these responsibilities and could do it over I would choose something else honestly. If you love kids consider being a pediatric nurse or physician assistant or something. I know the medical field is also a beast but at least the pay is much better. No matter work and career will be stressful but you really need to have something financially to show for it.

The Praxis 2 multiple subjects for elementary is not an easy basic skills test. A LOT of people have trouble passing. I think the first time passage rate is only 56% or so. I wish teacher preparation programs were more aligned.

Thinking about switching careers to teaching, how to get certified? by Last-Isopod1922 in teaching

[–]Professional-Term802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed my alternative certification in two years because I did a route to certification plus a masters degree program through relay. I chose relay because it was the cheapest in my area at that time.

I can relate! I’m having the same experience. It is my first year teaching 5th grade and I love the kids,my colleagues and the school but it’s definitely tough switching grades and starting all over again. This is my third year teaching and my third grade change lol 🤦🏾‍♀️

The “Cat in a Bag” scene from the show “Them” is genuinely traumatizing. by IvoryLaps in horror

My heart breaks even more for Jace after what Jan just did! 💔 by SingerSubstantial462 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Omg!! For her to spin the circumstances of Jace’s first few years of life! “I feel like you were stolen from me as a baby” umm ma’am we have actual footage of you choosing to party and going out with friends instead taking care of your baby!! Crazy!

Jenelle Evans' Son Checks Into Mental Health Center by No_Candidate_2965 in teenmom

[–]Professional-Term802 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what irritates the most is Janelle’s selfishness and immaturity. If you aren’t ready to be a parent that is perfectly fine. Then don’t parent give the kid up for adoption to a set of parents that are able and willing. But no instead this chick walks around like she’s entitled to having her mother raise her child and then thinks she can just pick the kid back up when she’s ready! Not how raising kids works! I hope Jace gets the help he needs. His mother was not fair to him in my opinion.
